This video is the perfect showcase of how charismatic Simon is. The content has nothing to do with the title, and is just one guy rambling incoherently about old wrestling with absolutely no purpose to it, and it was still a compelling watch. There's a lesson here somewhere, but it has nothing to do with WWE's worst era, what it was or when or why it ended. Much like this video.
He's right. Like it or not, If AEW did not show up we'd continue dealing with the absolutely crappy product that WWE was putting out. AEW simply existing has forced WWE and other wrestling promotions to step their game up.
Oh the Tribalism of the WCW vs. WWE days. I had a friend's Mom tell me how fake and terrible the WWE was and how real and amazing WCW was. She wasn't a very nice person in general.
If it wasn't for AEW just existing WWE would have no reason to step up their game. We need it to continue to exist and get better so wrestling in general can raise the bar.
This was a very good video. ROH & PWG were huge, but I feel like there are few phrases that maybe I missed hearing? 'TNA Knockout' 'Bullet Club' 'Cody's List' and 'X Division' feel like they could have earned mentions if not entire chapters
I am with 2018/2019 being the worst. The only thing we had was Bray and the firefly funhouse...that was it. The pandemic era had the weirdness to it that made it worth watching. 2022-Now has been pretty decent.
My biggest issue is how WWE handled Sting.. He had an amazing shocker of debut, surprising everyone, then just lost. Look how he got revitalized in AEW. That just shows how to handle talent in the right way and really showed how important more than one wrestling promotion is to the industry
Two people that are massively responsible for the revival of wrestling: Chris Jericho and Cody Rhodes. Not saying they’re the only ones that made all of this possible, but two guys who let go of a safe paycheck with Vince to help create a boom outside of WWE.
@@rebelpunk13 That's only Jericho in the past 2 years. Don't forget the boom he created before AEW was even born. He literally gave the indy scene the exposure it'd been needing.
I am so glad we are talking about this! Gone are the days of the Vince McMahon spell, where the single monopoly employer got to drive the conversation. We can now admit he did a terrible job for basically 20 years and almost killed the industry.
It kills me when people say the Booker T./Bagwell match might have been the catalyst to Vince dumping WCW. It ain't like the WWF were putting out quality bangers week after week. Their in-ring product sucked pretty bad in late 2000 early 2001, with the exception of like 3 people.
That was when i stopped watching mainstream wrestling regularly. I loved the Ruthless Aggression era, but from 2008 onwards it was just too awkward for me.
simon is right it has to be said some fans don't remember or weren't there for the 2010 that was brutal but we stuck by it and get to enjoy good wrestling nowadays sometimes too much good wrestling
Actually Ruthless Agression was amazing so technically that was not the worst era in wrestling since that was followed up after Vince bought WCW. The worst era probably is the PG era or most definitely 2018/2019 WWE
It’s all a matter of perspective to be completely honest, if you ask fans who grew up loving the late 90s WWF what’s the worst era of wwe they will say the ruthless aggression era because they hated John Cena, I will bet you money in time there will be people who will look back at WWE in 2016-2020 with fond memories because they love “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns. This cycle will probably continue forever
Agreed despite what people feel about the promotion now without AEW existing then WWE wouldn't be having the resurgence they're having now and this current boom period in wrestling wouldn't be happening either.
I started watching wrestling when I was a kid around 93-95 and stopped watching when the Pg era properly kicked in, I did dip my toe in to nxt 1.0 here and there but I was travelling a lot and didn't have an opportunity to really give it a go. I only got back into it a few years ago thanks to aew and thanks to that I started giving wwe a watch again and dammit I'm all in again with wwe. I loved are but recently I am not enjoying it, they put bangers on with their ppv, but their stories just aren't their at the moment. Nowadays I'm back in love with wrestling and thanks to the internet I can go back and watch all the good stuff I missed and you Simon miller really helped my get into the fun side of it, and now I've been to progress shows and try and hit any indie shows in my area that I can, cheers dude. Goofy wrestling for life
Trump was better in the ring than he was in handling American healthcare. Even if a bunch of brain damaged marks lick up every corn filled nugget of his kayfabe.
I been watching wrestling for a while know and have seen lots of bad moments but 2018-2019 wwe was slowly making me lose my passion of being a wrestling fan I’m so happy Aew was created in 2019 because I would probably not be watching wrestling right now.
WWE in the monopoly era was so boring. Very little to no effort in telling interesting stories and the actual wrestling was last in priority. Pro wrestling is in a much better place now.
All these years later, I still don't understand engaging in such an adverserial relationship with your paying audience. Don't you want to meet and exceed customer demand, not intentionally reject it?
I am legally obligated to defend the WWECW Zombie every time that gets brought up. One, it was fucking hilarious. Two, the original ECW would do the same thing in 94-95 when it would have 911 come out and choke slam, eg, Santa Claus, a bad guitarist, Doink the Clown, or whomever. It was the most authentically ECW thing on the show.
I remember hearing all the hype about the Super Smash Bros. Then I saw them, and I realized that if this is what people like now, my time as a fan is up. Hated it then, hate it now
Actually 2016 to 2019 was the last good wrestling independent but it was not PWG but WCPW - their talent was head of their time - Joe Coffey, Joe Henry, Bea Priestley, Nixon Newell, and Viper. Knows you never heard of it Simon but THAT was the BEST ERA of wrestling. Serious you need to understand WCPW/Defiant is for life. Check them out.
Hey ovw also polished Shelton Benjamin, Mark Henry, cm punk, dinsmore, the machine and Danny basham.... OVW with corny was great .... now I will say they didn't give the Mike to batista or allowed more complex builds just the old comeuppance but to say OVW is just they way you did just look at it like this The whole world knows JOHN CENA. RANDY ORTON. BROCK LESNAR AND BATISTA Something was done to To do that
People don’t talk enough about how wild it is Vince fried Heyman because smackdown was beating raw in the ratings. Why would you not just move heyman to Raw and let him pick his replacement on smackdown. It baffles me on a professional level that someone who did an amazing job got fired. If Raw was a priority over smackdown then a move should be used as a promotion and you can take a gamble to just have 2 good shows. Vince is probably the most nonsensical person in the world of wrestling.
This was a bit of a nothing video. 47 minutes of jumping around from invasion to CM punk to ruthless aggression to PWG to Jinder Mahal all without saying anything. What was the point in all of this?
WWF shoulda made Velocity and Sunday Night Heat wcw shows. then when Sting, goldberg, NWO were free from their Turner contracts they can debut on Raw or SmackDown
Wrestlings worst era is still going on. The mens roster looks look like a group of small children when compared to rosters full of pro wrestlers that actually looked like pro wrestlers. The womens roster looks like a group of women who all got curbstomped into a vat of acid. Jobberdust is still the worst wwe champion of all time. The worst era in pro wrestling is the jobber era, which started almost a decade ago. Remember when daniel bryan won the world title even though every dude on the roster could have crushed him with 2 fingers? They overloaded the suspension of disbelief and ruined the business.
The worst era is the last 3 eras whatever they're called. Wrestling hasn't been culturally relevant since the beginning of the ruthless aggression era.
For the love of all that’s holy, can we please stop pretending like the Zombie in ECW was a real character, it was an excuse for Sandman to come out and cane the ever living crap out of a jobber, nothing more. If you want to be generous, the Zombie represents the WWF cartoon characters from the 80’s and Sandman represents the gritty ECW characters. ECW on WWE was a failure and the zombie has been an easy thing to point at 20 years later but
I never encountered tribalism during the Monday Night War. Not saying it didn't happen, but my best friend and I just loved wrestling. It was how we initially became friends, and our other friends didn't actually pay as much attention as we did. If forced to pick a side, I'd probably have sided with WWF, but mostly because (Like Bobby "the Brain" Heenan) I was VERY anti-Hulk Hogan at the time. Which would astonish 8 year old me if he could talk to 16 year old me 😂.
Worst era new generation I grew up watching ruthless aggression to me thts the best era but I’ve also watched the attitude era on the network and I can also see y it’s plp fav o and the 2019 era was horrible as well
I guess this reminded me why it’s so amazing how Roman’s story turned out the way it did. Because all those critics who were downright racist awful to him and now eating their words because the man is a star, no two ways about it.
