Ohhh Well this changes things then, originally I intended on drawing my story as a Webtoon (mainly because that was the only way of self-publishing stuff I knew) but this changes everything. Honestly this sounds so sick supports black and white but also coloured, vertical and horizontal story telling and if your story is popular enough you get to be published alongside your favourite authors. alongside this you receive and audience from not only the west but Japan as well. Honestly I feel give this a year or two when they have a monetary system this will be real competition for tapas and especially webtoon If the website is doing well in two years i will post my story there
I'm gonna wait one year whiel planning out my first one-shot. If the website doing great , I will publish there , or even submit it to the tezuka contex
Wow I didn't even know something like Mangaplus existing. I know of LINE and Tapas. Thanks for the info. I'm getting the urge to finally focus on what I want to do.
this has made me so happy to hear. i can finally have a stable place to upload my manga, with others who aren’t even japanese!! i love the way japan is heading to being a much more inclusive industry with manga/anime. this is amazing news :) i’ve always wanted to write my own manga series and one day i hopefully will
Thank you for making this video! I am glad to see manga/comic platforms and publishers are more open for new and independent creators. I deffinetly got more motivated in publishing my future manga which I am currently working on. Also is it a copyright violation if I make a character who is a reference to another fictional character, like using similar abilities, name or look?
Thank you for taking the time to check this video out! I'm glad you enjoyed it and are feeling motivated! As for your question, it all depends on your intentions and how you execute it. For example if you named your character Goku, people may raise an eyebrow. However, Goku from DBZ was named after the folklore character Son Goku, so DBZ didn't create the name. There are plenty of Son Goku's in anime and manga like Son Goku from Naruto. As far as powers go, as long as you aren't directly stealing an iconic name like Kamehameha, you should be fine! Nobody "owns" transformations, energy beams, etc It's totally fine to make allusions to prexisting titles. Other anime and manga do that all of the time. Like if you wanted to reference the Kamehameha in your comic you could have a character begin to charge up the beam and gets cutoff before he's able to finish. Something like that was done in Blood Lad, Gintama, and That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime With looks, that becomes more concerning. If you're character looks oddly similar to an iconic character people may ask questions Hope that helps! Best of luck!
@@MonitorComics I like how you mentioned Kamehameha since one of my characters has a very similar power of making that type of beam, but a little bit different. Thank you for the answer! It will make it easier for me to make character.
@@urangames457For sure! Like I said, DBZ doesn't "own energy beams." If your power looks similar, you should be fine The only thing to be careful about is the name and the movements goku does with his hands to fire it off Hope that helps!
@@MonitorComics well the movement for my version of it is different so I am safe for that. I am honestly more worried for some other characters/group of characters who are references to various shows.
Sounds good! I was looking for places to publish my manga, and it sounds like a solid option. I truly dislike how Webtoons treat their artists, but MangaPlus looks like they care a little bit at least.
Great video, and quick on it too! A new platform that focuses entirely on manga, and one that is connected with the manga industry is a really cool opportunity for aspiring manga artists. Not only can you gain a social following, but could be published online alongside established series. I think this really gives anyone a strong platform to host their manga series- one that doesn't prefer colored, vertical scroll content as many of the other platforms do.
VERY TRUE. I think it definitely creates a cool opportunity for comic artists. Many artists who prefer the page format have "stuck it out" with posting on Webtoons, Tapastic, or other smaller platforms (Shrine Comics, TheNinth, PulseManga, Voyce.Me etc) because there wasn't really anywhere else to go. Getting accepted by a publisher isn't easy, so many go the route of self publishing, which HONESTLY isn't the "wrong decision," its just harder to build an audience and market yourself Now that this platform exists for FREE, the artists who were "sticking it out" finally have a place to flock to. If they were posting their manga for free anyways, why not post it here where there is the most opportunity Like I said in the video, if this was a platform made by an individual or a small group, I'd question the legitimacy and longevity. But seeing how this is backed by Shueisha AND Medibang, it'll be really cool to see what they do with it!
@@MonitorComics Totally! I think one of the key thing younger artists are looking for especially is number 1 free, and number 2 no boundary to entry. The great thing with these platforms is that you have the freedom to post where you like (as long as you're not bound to a contract as you mentioned in the video), but its a more the merrier scenario. Get em out and see which platform works best I say. Also the monetary prize sure is alluring, even if its decided by a popularity vote, haha.
@@optimalzero At the MOMENT, the only way to make money off of this is through the monthly awards HOWEVER, this platform is only a day old. In the future I can see them adding a Donation System and a Ad Revenue system similar to Webtoons and Tapas Honestly though, most comic artists dont make a lot of money by JUST posting comics online. You have to be generating multiple streams of income (commissions, youtube, live streams, merchandise, books, e books, courses, patreon, etc) While this platform might not have monetary options RIGHT NOW, I still think it is the best place to HOST your free comic if you don't like the vertical scroll format
@@optimalzero YES! I really like Amazon's print on demand services. They make it really easy to create Kindle E-Book versions and Print Versions of your comics The best part is, you don't have to worry about manufacturing and distributing. They handle all of that when someone places an order
I’ll definitely be using manga plus! I aspire to become a manga creator one day! I’m just gonna quickly dive deeper into manga plus and see if it’s the right place for me! Thanks for much for this, new sub!
The author behind a popular indie manga called Ruthless Render said he's taking a hiatus since he never gets paid anything when releasing chapters monthly. I know monetization isn't available yet so hoping the site improves overtime.
This video was very well put together and very informative. I'm going to Check out the manga that's on manga plus, And This might be the platform where I post my own manga
Damn, this is a great video.... as usual. Keep up the great work, man. I'm still here flipping my coin on what to do about the platform. Hopefully this helps one way on the other
Thank you Prince! And yeah, I'm in the same boat, it'll be interesting to see where the Platform is in a few months. At the moment I think it has the potential to be better than Webtoons and Tapas if you have no intention of doing vertical scroll comics. They just need a monetization feature and then they'll be solid
@@MonitorComics Yes, very informative and timely. I've been wanting to publish my comic somewhere more manga friendly than Webtoon and Tapas, so this is fantastic for me.
@@redfantasy101 I'm glad to hear that! I spent all day looking into it so I could get this info out right away for people who were a bit confused about certain things
I really do hope they add a stable monetization opportunity rather than just sticking to monthly prizes. While the chance of winning an award might be enticing to younger artists that are just starting, it can get quite disheartening the longer you go without winning anything despite spending years trying. Manga being manga, this really does offer more variety in story and themes and in turn, invites more artists to the platform.
This seems to be a promising object. I currently have my first three issues up on Amazon Kindle unlimited program which prohibits my from reposting my book on other platforms for three months. So by November once my 90 days are up I might be looking into uploading my series on to this platform.
Thank you for taking the time to share! It's definitely good to feel things out as the platform is still new. We should have a better grasp of it in 3 months! I didn't even know Amazon Kindle had a clause like that where you cant post elsewhere for 3 months. That's interesting to know!
Seems nice the Manga Creators, buit I really would like platforms that permits extreme and uncensored comics and webtoon without restrictions of violence, gore, nudity and sex
Oh man! I watched this video and I thought it was a video of how to get your comic or manga series officially published or serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump
thats such a gift from god lol i enjoy reading webtoons, but as far as drawing them goes, i always hated the idea. the vertical scrolling makes the panels feel so lifeless to me, compared to manga pages where things ovelap, and also when you get a big panel across two pages it just works so much better on a horizontal reading format; its not as dynamic as just scrolling down with one hand of course. anyways thanks so much for this video pretty amazing stuff!
Completely agree! I've never been a fan of the vertical scroll format or the "webtoon look" that's popular right now. Thankfully now the people who LIKE drawing manga can move from tapas and webtoons over to here to show their pages how they were intended to be read!
Hi monitor comics may I suggest a video idea I want to know how do I insinuate color when I am drawing a manga page or just how to use manga tones in general 🙏🏻🙏🏻pls
Awesome! Thank you for letting me know! I will start preparing the interview questions and then I'll send you an email about it later today! I hope the move went smoothly!
@@MonitorComics -- Looking forward to it. I may need a little coaching to get my audio/video going because it'll be the first time, but I'm sure we'll manage it. Moving always sucks. At least it's over. 😀
yo, do anyone know how to set age limit? cuz reading the submission guidelines made me realized how terrible is the world in my story. I don't want to take away the concept of my story as much as i want to follow guidelines and avoid getting axed (i already uploaded 3 chapters and will upload the 4th within this week but things are now starting to get serious)
I have a question. I have a great idea for a great story but I’m not a good drawer as much as I used to be growing up. I was curious on how I can find someone to work with on helping me draw this manga. Any recommendations on how I find aspiring artists?
I have a question I don't have a scanner but could my publisher scan and resize the pages for me or will I have to get a scanner to do all that. I draw traditionally so I don't have a computer to really get scanned into??
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! As far as I know, the answer is no. In-House publishers MIGHT be able to do it, but the publishers I have worked with in the past did everything by email. So I would send them my files. If you draw traditionally, I recommend downloading a free scanner app for your phone! There are plenty of free art programs that work with smart phones that you could use to add lettering and post your comics! Hope that helps!
@@MonitorComics I have jump paint but I haven't really figured all of the buttons around yet and in all I still need to figure out my style and my idea. But thanks for the feed back
This platform looks amazing! It's really annoying that Webtoon and Tapas are very limiting in the format and styles one can use. I have seen people try to create full traditional pages, but it is not easy to read and it's pushed me away from reading those style of series. This is making me reconsider the format and art style of the series I am working on as I was going to force myself to work in vertical format and full colour because it seemed like the only option, but now I can draw in my preferred style and embrace traditional manga styles rather than manhwa. I don't have anything against manhwa, I just have wanted to be a manga artist and thus wanted to be able to draw in that format.
@@forgettableotaku That's awesome to hear! I think this platform would be perfect for the type of manga you are trying to create! Personally, I am not a huge fan of vertical scroll comics either. I've tried uploading full traditional pages stacked on top of each other on Webtoons in the past, but like you said, it becomes hard to read.
I hope the website keeps the only fan made manga platform and doesn't publish official manga there because a thing I was hesitant about webtoon was companies like DC posting series like the Wayne family adventures and more because wedtoon being a fan comic site makes me feel like with more and more series by big name companies posting series there they will overshadowed the smaller fan comics
Thank you for taking the time to check this video out and sharing your thoughts! That is definitely a VALID POINT! Personally, I don't see that happening, ONLY because MangaPlus and Shonen Jump+ already exist. Both of those manga reading platforms ONLY publish official series. It is still very early though, so we will have to see!
@@cashrafferty6717 I would describe an "official series" as something made by a successful artist for the sole purpose of being put on the website In the comment above, GoldenGoblin mentioned how DC Artists were being paid to make comics on Webtoons. Similarly, Boiichi, the artist of Shonen Jump's series, DR Stone, has also recently announced he will be working on a webtoon for Webtoons I would consider that an "official series." It's more than likely that Boiichi's webtoon will outperform every Webtoon made by the average artist posting on there.
Thank you! I believe so! I would double check the submission guidelines on the website though! I don't see why not when series like Chainsaw Man are published with Jump!
that's a great information. Thanks monitor manga. now I have a good reason to create a manga one shot. Do you think creating an entertaining one shot manga of 10 pages is possible?
I'm glad this video could help! Thank you for taking the time to watch! As for your question, YES it is possible! Some one-shot competitions only ask for 10-15 pages. So that is the perfect amount!
Since the T&Cs said up to three episodes if i only uploaded a one-shot on January then 2 other chapters for example on February and March would i still qualify for the monthly awards for those months as well?
Yes! I've been told that you no longer qualify AFTER 3 chapters are up. So for the first month your one shot will qualify, for month two your first chapter, for month 3, your second chapter. If you make a chapter 4 it will not qualify The workaround is to separate it. So make your one shot its own thing, then your first 3 chapters a second thing. So all 4 qualify People who do one shots have an advantage because as long as it's its own thing, it can qualify that month
Ok time to actually learn to draw, guess my fantasy of creating my own manga may actually become a reality, I was always under the impression that only Japanese people could create manga.
That isn't true! That's been a common misconception for years. The French have been creating manga for years, with their biggest artist, Tony Valente working for Shonen Jump Boiichi and Shindo L, two big names in the manga world are Korean. In the west, publishers like Tokyopop, Viz Media, Atlantic Press, and Darkhorse publish manga-inspired comics The company I work for, Saturday AM, creates western manga that you can buy in stores like Barnes and Nobles, Walmart, etc. They're in the MANGA section of the stores Their are many Japanese companies that acknowledge drawing and writing in the manga style is a global thing. That's why Shonen Jump hosted a global Tezuka Award and this new website exists, they're acknowledging manga made from outside of Japan If manga is something that you want to create, then you should! The only people stopping you are yourself and the "elitists" who gatekeep manga (even though MANY of them are fanboys and not actual creators in the industry) Best of luck!
@@MonitorComics I know you get asked this a million times but where/how does one start to learn to draw properly ? There are so many 'how to draw manga books' out there I don't know which ones are truly legit and I don't expect content creators like yourself to provided comprehensive courses because that's pretty much a paid year long course.
@@MrDakadaka I would honestly say the how to draw books are a waste of time. At the end of the day, a book is a product, so the main goal of it is to make money, not really help you become the best artist I also took art classes for most of my life which helped, but honestly me and a lot of other artists I know learned from watching UA-cam tutorials My best advice to learn would be to study UA-cam videos from artists like Kuzomari, David Finch, Mark Brunet, Whytmanga, Ethan Becker, and SomeNormalArtist They have some great tutorials for free on their UA-cam channel. It also really helps to watch art livestreams so you can see how the artist draws in real time. That will give you a better understanding of how they move their hand and why they do it
I believe that only one account can upload it. So you would want a joint account or a business account to represent you both You can also write Story by Art by on the cover to make it clear.
I was always looking for a place to start promoting my manga. I had ideas to create my own site with original manga, but then the Manga plus platform came along and it looks very generic. But my manga is in color, it is made according to all the standards of Japanese manga, except for the color. I don't know if it will be a big problem to try to promote it on Manga Plus Creator.
It should be fine! I see MangaPlus Creators as the place to go when you don't want to make vertical scroll comics (Webtoons, Tapas, etc) Right now the website is still new, but there IS an audience there, similar to Webtoons and Tapas. If you make your own website, you have to CREATE that audience yourself, which can be hard For something like that to work you have tp have a big presence on social media
@@MonitorComics Yes, I thought about Manga plus as a good chance. Because I don't want to draw a vertical comic for Tapas or Webtoon at all. Do you think color manga is suitable for Manga Plus?

@@MonitorComics I did compress them, doen to less than 5mb per page, and did the px requirements as well, it just keep saying failed to save try again later
Not that I am aware of. I don't know too much about the Light Novel space though so I'm not the best person to ask about this sort of thing lol There might be!
Quick question: if your manga series does end up winning the first place prize and gets publication on Jump+. Does your whole series get published there or just those 1-3 chapters? Thanks for the video
So far there hasn't been an artist who has made it that far, so I will keep everyone updated! The closest person right now is DDMark who has won a Bronze Award and is currently ranked #1, so far he has been in contact with a Shueisha editor, but not much else is confirmed yet!
hi i have a question, does the creator for the mangaplus creator get paid monthly.. if it is which one should i choose webtoon or manga plus please give me your opinion🥺
At the moment, no, nobody makes any money on the platform UNLESS you win one of the monthly awards With that being said, you aren't going to make any money on Webtoons or Tapas directly unless you are a Webtoons Original I would say Webtoons and Tapas are dominantly full colored vertical scroll comics. So if that's your thing then those sites are good If you draw in the comic book style or manga style though, then mangaplus creators is better suited for that
The platform, MangaPlus Creators is for ANY demographic or genre. As far as the monthly awards and Japanese publishing goes, I assume it considers everything Shonen Jump isn't the only magazine owned by Shueisha (the company behind MangaPlus Creators) Weekly Young Jump is one of their seinen magazines for example
Hey Monitor I have a few doubt .. please answer me 1. Can we do 2 different stories by same account ? 2. Does both of the stories ranks in monthly awards specifically 3. And can we do two different stories in both Manga+ and Webtoons .. but both stories will have a connection tho 4. And how does the publishing process works Plz try to answer my doubts 🙂
I'll try to answer in order 1. yes, many accounts have different projects up 2. Yes, if it is a single series, only the first 3 chapters count. If it is different projects, they both count 3. Technically yes, but if you aren't posting both on the same site you might be dividing your audience. Some people might not read on both sites 4. The way MangaPlus creators does it is through the monthly awards. I've seen people be approached by publishers by having a project rank high there Hopefully that helps!
You'll need to read the fine print in the submission guidelines and award guidelines if you ever win won, but if it says you retain full IP rights then yes!
Not 100% sure, only someone who runs the site would have a direct answer. I would assume it is based on whoever views your comic page or multiple pages

Nobody "owns" transformations, energy beams, etc
It's totally fine to make allusions to prexisting titles. Other anime and manga do that all of the time. Like if you wanted to reference the Kamehameha in your comic you could have a character begin to charge up the beam and gets cutoff before he's able to finish. Something like that was done in Blood Lad, Gintama, and That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
With looks, that becomes more concerning. If you're character looks oddly similar to an iconic character people may ask questions
Hope that helps! Best of luck!
@@MonitorComics I like how you mentioned Kamehameha since one of my characters has a very similar power of making that type of beam, but a little bit different. Thank you for the answer! It will make it easier for me to make character.
@@urangames457For sure! Like I said, DBZ doesn't "own energy beams." If your power looks similar, you should be fine
The only thing to be careful about is the name and the movements goku does with his hands to fire it off
Hope that helps!
@@MonitorComics well the movement for my version of it is different so I am safe for that. I am honestly more worried for some other characters/group of characters who are references to various shows.

That's awesome to hear!
Amazing video and such exciting info, I really appreciate your content over the years!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it!
Thanks bro! Now i gotta begin the mangaka grind
Getting accepted by a publisher isn't easy, so many go the route of self publishing, which HONESTLY isn't the "wrong decision," its just harder to build an audience and market yourself
Now that this platform exists for FREE, the artists who were "sticking it out" finally have a place to flock to. If they were posting their manga for free anyways, why not post it here where there is the most opportunity
Like I said in the video, if this was a platform made by an individual or a small group, I'd question the legitimacy and longevity.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR
I'm super glad to hear that!! Thank you for taking the time to check out this video and leaving a comment!
@@MonitorComics is it possible to actually make money off of this or just publication and prize money

@@optimalzero At the MOMENT, the only way to make money off of this is through the monthly awards
HOWEVER, this platform is only a day old. In the future I can see them adding a Donation System and a Ad Revenue system similar to Webtoons and Tapas
Honestly though, most comic artists dont make a lot of money by JUST posting comics online. You have to be generating multiple streams of income (commissions, youtube, live streams, merchandise, books, e books, courses, patreon, etc)
While this platform might not have monetary options RIGHT NOW, I still think it is the best place to HOST your free comic if you don't like the vertical scroll format
@@optimalzero YES! I really like Amazon's print on demand services. They make it really easy to create Kindle E-Book versions and Print Versions of your comics

So by November once my 90 days are up I might be looking into uploading my series on to this platform.

i enjoy reading webtoons, but as far as drawing them goes, i always hated the idea. the vertical scrolling makes the panels feel so lifeless to me, compared to manga pages where things ovelap, and also when you get a big panel across two pages it just works so much better on a horizontal reading format; its not as dynamic as just scrolling down with one hand of course. anyways thanks so much for this video pretty amazing stuff!
Completely agree! I've never been a fan of the vertical scroll format or the "webtoon look" that's popular right now. Thankfully now the people who LIKE drawing manga can move from tapas and webtoons over to here to show their pages how they were intended to be read!

@@MonitorComics Yeah it's really exciting to see a platform like this make traditional manga more accessible.
7:21 I planned to make 25-35 pages of my own manga, but first 8 pages of it are already created, can't I upload more than 8 pages?
@@MonitorComics what counts as an official series?
@@cashrafferty6717 I would describe an "official series" as something made by a successful artist for the sole purpose of being put on the website
In the comment above, GoldenGoblin mentioned how DC Artists were being paid to make comics on Webtoons.
Similarly, Boiichi, the artist of Shonen Jump's series, DR Stone, has also recently announced he will be working on a webtoon for Webtoons
I would consider that an "official series." It's more than likely that Boiichi's webtoon will outperform every Webtoon made by the average artist posting on there.

If you make a chapter 4 it will not qualify
The workaround is to separate it. So make your one shot its own thing, then your first 3 chapters a second thing. So all 4 qualify
People who do one shots have an advantage because as long as it's its own thing, it can qualify that month

What are the titles of the those in the thumbnail?
Ayakashi Triangle, Spy X Family, Chainsaw Man
Ok time to actually learn to draw, guess my fantasy of creating my own manga may actually become a reality, I was always under the impression that only Japanese people could create manga.
That isn't true! That's been a common misconception for years. The French have been creating manga for years, with their biggest artist, Tony Valente working for Shonen Jump
Boiichi and Shindo L, two big names in the manga world are Korean. In the west, publishers like Tokyopop, Viz Media, Atlantic Press, and Darkhorse publish manga-inspired comics
The company I work for, Saturday AM, creates western manga that you can buy in stores like Barnes and Nobles, Walmart, etc. They're in the MANGA section of the stores
Their are many Japanese companies that acknowledge drawing and writing in the manga style is a global thing. That's why Shonen Jump hosted a global Tezuka Award and this new website exists, they're acknowledging manga made from outside of Japan
If manga is something that you want to create, then you should! The only people stopping you are yourself and the "elitists" who gatekeep manga (even though MANY of them are fanboys and not actual creators in the industry)
Best of luck!
At the end of the day, a book is a product, so the main goal of it is to make money, not really help you become the best artist
I also took art classes for most of my life which helped, but honestly me and a lot of other artists I know learned from watching UA-cam tutorials
My best advice to learn would be to study UA-cam videos from artists like Kuzomari, David Finch, Mark Brunet, Whytmanga, Ethan Becker, and SomeNormalArtist
They have some great tutorials for free on their UA-cam channel. It also really helps to watch art livestreams so you can see how the artist draws in real time. That will give you a better understanding of how they move their hand and why they do it
Would you recommend posting my manga to as many platforms as possible? Or try to keep it limited
Hey, what if there are 2 authors for one manga (let's say a one-shot), how would that be processed?
I believe that only one account can upload it. So you would want a joint account or a business account to represent you both
You can also write Story by Art by on the cover to make it clear.
I have a question that will the people who will publish in shonen jump this way , be payed for publishing.😅
I wanna delete an old comic, where and how can I do that?
Is there a chance of your work being sold as volumes?
I have a silly question... do I need to use medibang to draw my manga in order to upload it to the platform? Or I can use any software?
Any software! The website will just ask you to upload jpg or png files!
I see MangaPlus Creators as the place to go when you don't want to make vertical scroll comics (Webtoons, Tapas, etc)
Right now the website is still new, but there IS an audience there, similar to Webtoons and Tapas. If you make your own website, you have to CREATE that audience yourself, which can be hard
For something like that to work you have tp have a big presence on social media
@@MonitorComics Yes, I thought about Manga plus as a good chance. Because I don't want to draw a vertical comic for Tapas or Webtoon at all. Do you think color manga is suitable for Manga Plus?

3. Technically yes, but if you aren't posting both on the same site you might be dividing your audience. Some people might not read on both sites
4. The way MangaPlus creators does it is through the monthly awards. I've seen people be approached by publishers by having a project rank high there
Hopefully that helps!
Do creators get payed other than in contests?

Do I still have rights to movie rights and stuff
You'll need to read the fine print in the submission guidelines and award guidelines if you ever win won, but if it says you retain full IP rights then yes!
THE QUESTION IS "DID US AS A MANGAKA GET MONEY?"
