Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

You know, until I started watching your channel I had no idea the skill level it took to be a farmer.......I really thought it was as simple as dig a hole and plant a seed.....after watching your videos and others I now think of farmers in the same category as engineers and scientist.....you have to be a little of both today in the farming world...thanks for the education Zach.
Thank you so much! That means a lot.
@@MillennialFarmer Come on now. We all know better... if we're not sure just call Mike Bloomberg! He's got the answers, right?
I do some side work on a farm and the one thing I’ve learned is farming is a science lol
I have always known it was complex, but I am learning a lot about just how complex. For instance I love how you teach us to check depth and the like every thirty minutes or so, the moisture content testing, and things like that. Very cool info Zach.
thanks for more farm videos, cant get enough. Farming is all I ever wanted to do, but I ended up railroading instead.
I'm in Iowa in a tractor in the middle of a field planting corn filming for my UA-cam channel watching a Minnesotan plant corn on UA-cam ...if that doesn't say that 2020 nothing does.
🤣🤣 get back to work!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅💥
Millennial Farmer Corn acreage up 8% this time a year ago....oil cratered and demand is low....plant something else brother....corn futures ⬇️
@@Mapdotnowhere suggestions?!
Q and a
@@MillennialFarmer + Keep doing what you're doing. Things will turn around!
Seams a little more complicated than what Bloomberg said! 😁
I died laughing when the bluetooth didn't work!! Thanks for the video Mr. Millennial Farmer!! It's so awesome to learn more about farming from these videos. Thank you for helping feed America!!
"I can't blue tooth while the vehicle is in motion? Its a tractor!!" lolololol
lol
you would hate to be distracted while using auto steer
@@neilrice1189 agreed
@@punkinhoot live on a farm, of course I have, its the way he says it that makes it funny
@@punkinhoot yes my friends own a farm
“I want it to turn off a foot before my end rows......,”
Slightly more accurate than my “yank everything out of the ground soon as the front tires get to the Thirr ....,fourth row...., and one Mississippi’s after I cross the last end row heading back”......, method......, not by a whole lot......., once I get in my grove I’m an accurate booger LOL.
Grateful that you farmers are planting and feeding our economic engine. More Front-Line Heroes!
I cant believe he has a tracked tractor and never once did the flat tyre joke👍
He has before with is rts
It’s tire lol
Look at all that fresh paint! Good luck Zach!
Our newest tractor is properly made in between 2000 and 2010
I'm still figuring things out, thanks Ryan! Same to you!
@@LukeLees35 Ours to...no government juice.
Robert Reznik that’s what we said at first but once you get one, you get used to it easily and the new ones are far more comfortable and powerful
Robert Reznik Yeah good all fashion dinosaur bones
“We’re really doing it Harry” 😂
This is the one I was looking for. Was Zach's best comment
That was awesome.
I talked to various family members. You should have 5 new subscribers. One of my sisters said she is amazed at the amount of work takes and that family farms are under appreciated.
Enjoying your video. While watching I remembered my dad telling me that when he was a young boy he planted corn with a mule. My have thing have changed. Love watching your videos. Thanks to all farmers.
This man is one of the most gifted Farmers I have seen, and a bonus representing Minnesota!. Lots of hard work, and thank you so much for posting your awesome videos for people to see!
Thanks for watching!
Driving around in east-central South Dakota I saw a lot of farmers putting seed in the ground, as well as fertilizing and digging. I love to see farmers working in the field, I just never seem to get bored of it.
@MillennialFarmer You were the first farming video i watched! and i was hooked...i enjoy ur humor.. yet know "most" stuff!😂 plus ur equipment is awsum!! so thank u for sharing your farm!👍💯🤘🇺🇲🚜🌽 "8RX is Bootyful!"🔥
You know that Adaptive Curves is the autosteer setting for headlands👍 And in steep country it's all we use going around terraces and other obstacles. Keep it up!
Gee, I think I'd be lost on a tractor now with all this computer stuff, I'm from old school farming, you really do make these video's fun and interesting to watch. Thanks.
Yea there is a lot to farming than driving a tractor. That's why I love watching your channel learning more about farming and what it takes. Thank you
Great video! My dad was a vocational agriculture teacher for many years would have love to have seen this video. He is gone now, but, he would never have even imagined planting corn at 10 mph. He thought if you were going 5 mph you were flying across the field. Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed watching this equipment and you in the field.
The amount of technology that has been incorporated into the planting process is unbelievable. Also to know what has to be done to use the technology is another process. Well done.
First welker farms and now mnfarmer, lucky evening!
Me too
Ive been looking at ur channel every 5 minutes waiting for a new video to come out
My grandfather was born (1897) and raised in Pembina County, North Dakota. He planted with a horse growing up. That old MM would have been heaven to him.
I think sending a person to the moon has to be easier than being a farmer.Way way way more involved being a farmer than I ever thought.Well done that man 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
16:02 Ms Millennial didn’t cut the swivel
“If my calculations are correct, which I have done non.” 😂🤣 gave me a good laugh lol sure made my day!
We just started today. It sure is nice to be out planting corn in April. It's been awhile since we've been able to do that. It's great when you can work in the field & there's no mud on the tires. Hopefully it continues on that way.
Thanks for the education, Zach. The technology is mind blowing for an old farmer.
Holy buckets! YOU really are a millennial. Didn't know you need an IT degree to run the tractor and to setup a field for planting! What can one say but AWESOME!
That 8rx must have an amazing toilet!
It's very private compared to the wheeled machines
The 9rx is an amazing toilet!
I used to help my dad plant back in the late 60's, with our two-row planter. Today's technology would be incomprehensible to him. I learned so much just in the last two days, from Dodge Brothers Farm and Ranch yesterday, and here today.
Thanks for the education,Zach. I love learning about the farming processes. Mad respect for your work ethic👍
A farmer...big deal, whatta you need, a shovel and a rake!!
Oh, and and a few million bucks worth of equipment!! And a fricken PHD to run it all!! Wish I lived closer..
I'm going down to help (watch) alfalfa bailing next week in Imperial county.. excited!
I absolutely laughed out loud when you couldn’t hook your phone up while you were driving.......” it’s a tractor”. lol
The amount of joy you get from farming is contagious. I think that’s a main factor of what’s made your channel so successful.
Fascinating to watch. Growing up in Middle Tennessee, Tobacco country, I never experienced anything
Remotely like what you are doing. The choreography is just amazing. Thanks to you and the thousands just like you.
YESSSSSS!! THAT TRACTOR IS EPIC!!!
Serious piece of kit for planting zach all the very best for the season.
Zach, I remember as a kid the smell of the dirt when we fired up the planter in the spring. An everlasting memory. Thanks for sharing. What you do educates everyone who follows you. Great Job
Zach, thank you for another video! I grew up farming in Eastern Washington at a time where a lot of guess work with chemicals etc. was the norm. It is amazing to watch the care of the land and the science involved. It creates more of an appreciation for our land and our farmers and makes me proud of my roots as a farmer when I was young. Just a thank you to you and your family for everything you do for all of us. God Bless!
Hey Zach I live in Victoria Australia and we have started planting vetch in some of our paddocks (fields but in Australia we call fields paddocks) so let’s hope we have a good year with the rain!
Glad to hear your getting crop in the ground that planter, tractor and tender looks sweet !
Ha! Love the movie lines. Surprising you know a lot of those lines being an Millennial. Thanks for the laughs!
the whole process just knocks me out...thanks so much for keeping the dialog at a level that makes sense to a layman like me.
I think mastering that planter should qualify you for the Astronaut Academy at NASA!
ya, hey, john glenn would have been astounded by all this modern farming stuff. he had nowhere near that to circle the earth!
Just watched welkers fixing their mm then came here to watch the shiny toys saving the best for last!
I can’t believe 9mph planting corn. That is just mind blowing. And heck of a good representation of farm life in today’s time.
loving the new kit and the technology looks awesome and the smile on your face and enthusiasm just says it all, keep up the good work all the best from the UK be safe everyone..
Dang, i watched this 3 hours after it posted with 60K views and almost 500 comments already. America Needs Farmers
Zac: i'm hoping for 2 inches
Me: Thats what she said
Thank you for sharing. I learn something new every time I watch
I am from the Netherlands and I watch all of your videos on UA-cam. And I must say, it is great to see someone like you working the fields like you do. I never realized that the equipment you use, is so complicated. I have been driving tractors myself but they were much more simple. Keep posting your videos and I will keep watching them. And all the best to you and your family.
I’m loving your candy store. And I like the kid in it too 😂😂😂. Awesome to see you having fun and awesome to see your 2020 crop going in. Thanks you for doing what you do with the channel
I would be interested in hearing you, or your Dad, talk about how you planted corn back in the old days. Before all this high tech equipment.
It is so interesting to hear you explain the farming processes where soil quality, crop residual usages and all the other things that the uneducated public has no idea that you not only need to know but USE, and help to improve your farm. You and your crew are so fun to follow
I grew up on a tobacco farm in NC,tractors played a small part in the beginning its awesome to learn how you keep America moving
Can't belive how advanced and computerized everything is .
been under a rock?
@@zuestoots5176 haha im not a farmer so this not my area of buisness.
Zack when you say there is no substitute for manually checking the seed placement, the Japanese call that "go and see" their term for that is Genchi Genbutsu or Genchi for short.
I just started listening to the Beyond the Husk Podcast. This is a great and humorous show!
I ABSOLUTELY love technology when it makes jobs VERY efficient. For instance making planting EASY with a grid, for moisture, topography map. Just amazing. Love it.
amazing, great work bro
Just amazed that you have the soil temperatures to plant. Every thing looks good, fine content 👍
I'm no farmer and only play Farming Simulator, but this is a start of third season with Milenial Farmer already! I learn so much! Love it.
Love you guys! Glad your new equipment is working out for you! God Bless!!
If my dad was still alive he would love to be there doing that we miss farming
"It takes Teamwork to ..." and then "He must not trust me ..."
Zach let me tell you: "Teamwork allways includes Tripple-Check".
Love your videos and I very much appreciate your work Zach. I'm not a farmer, but did grow up on a dairy farm, so for me it is just fantastic to ride along as you go about your very essential job for our country and the world. I'm sure managing your camera's and producing the videos is very very labor intensive so just want to thank you and your family.
In 1990 I studied machine engineering. We worked on a feasibility analysis of a brand new tech Callled GPS and what it could do for farming and fishing. It was expensive, and an immature tech at that time, but promising. And now 30 years later: All of my wildest dreams, and more, has come true.
Hey Zach, if that air line pops off again, recut that air line slightly at an angle 😉
Rough the shiny finish of the line a bit with the/a knife blade. If you carry a bit of sandpaper, it works even better. The roughened tube finish (just a little!) will grab the fitting way better..
It's nice that you get some rain on your corn. Here in Poland we feel like we're in a middle of Sahara desert :/. Nice vid as always btw. :D
Again, all I can say is “you’re a stud”! Geez, Zac (Zach)...you be showin’ others how to farm. Keep it up, man!!!!!!
I love all this tech, and the work. Tempted to leave my trade and become a farm hand for a couple years.
Planting nice.. that’s tractor seems pull good.. and the diggger lol
As crazy as it sound , i'm curious to know more about Jim !! Like how long he's been helping you guys and things like that.
And why his coat says "Ann"..
I kinda like the voice of Jim because he sounds like "Benjamin Blümchen" from a german audiobook for childs
Great work! From Scotland!
Man them new tractors do everything themselves, on our farm we are still using an old John deere 4430 to dig up our fields, and a john deere 4020 to plant.
I want that tractor so bad, just beautiful!
I like how he is already planting and I haven't even hooked planter up yet
Ohio
Wisconsin here, people are getting the field worked up now
Northern Illinois here. The good neighbor I help, has almost half of his corn in the ground. Another neighbor is done with corn and starting beans when it dries out again.
Cameron Velthuis here in southern Ontario were maybe 1/2 finished ground work
Great video for learning about corn planting. Thanks so much.
What makes a good day great... When a new mnmf video drops. Great to see how things are done the other side of the pond, All the best.
surprised when the montage came he didn’t sing it, sang it in my head to make up for it lol 👍🏼
You're the best farmer on youtube
10 Mph planting. I remember riding on my Grandpa's John Deere while he planted by bouncing seed off of a steel pan he mounted on the engine cover. (This was back in the 70's) He couldn't afford the fancy stuff and boy was he awesome at finding different ways to get the job done.
I really enjoy seeing videos not only from you but other farming channels testing and demoing equipment. The manufacturers get tons of exposure by doing it so it only makes sense.
Today (thursday) we are planting idk like 10 hectares of corn with a 6 row planter. In the Netherlands btw
You didn't cut off the hoodie strings, safety hazard 😂
Watching from michigan and loving every minute of it. I don't have a operation even close to yours but i still enjoy it. Only have 35 head cattle do sum hay and little corn for silage. Ours is pretty small with only around 325 acres we own of pasture and hay and rent another 100 for corn. Enough of my rambling thanks and keep up the good work my friend.
That’s awesome. Always exciting to start planting. It’s especially nice when you have a nice new toy to plant with.
No one:
Zach: back into the mobile isolation chamber😂
marcel pavlin lol
''That is the strangest looking train I have ver seen"" 19:35 😂 😂 😂
well, that is a regular ''crane" which is basically like an excavator on wheels, with retractable train track wheels (hi-rail). Can be used both on road or train tracks.
Thank you for keeping us entertained with your great vides.
Cheers from TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA!
Toronto for life!!!!!!!
From crane train, that's the strangest farm tractor I've ever seen . Must be a high speed millenial thing.
Ahhhhhh, Farming Montage. Now we are getting somewhere! Thanks Zach!
Running a loader, excavator or driving a truck is relatively easy. I have mad respect for you and your ability to run that equipment. Cheers!
That is one good lookin tractor! 👍🏻
"We're really doing it Harry"😂
"Samsonite. I was way off".
"Harry, your hands are freezing" lol
Not a farmer, but I have always been fascinated by farming equipment.
Awesome guys thanks for what you do nice operation and of course love the big green machine
I herd in your podcast you mentioned red head creamery. My family is there Neighbours
3:55 from my experience using those fittings on pneumatics on robots, if it pops out cut the hose back about 1/4". Those push fittings bite onto the tube and they can pop off from wear. If you don't cut the tube back a bit it won't be able to get bite and it'll keep popping out.
also check that the release ring isn,t rubbing against something- water push fits can be fitted with guards to prevent this from happening
Hi Zack I’m a kids who loves faming and machines rumbling along paddocks/fields and farming all started with my AKUBRA hat. You have inspired me to realise what fun farming is but the difficulty’s of farming and consequences that also come with farming.
You really have inspired me
Absolutely fascinating... I never thought of it this way, but you're literally trying to "mass-produce" the perfect seed-insertion into the ground literally hundreds of thousand times, if not more. This machinery is truly amazing. More content like this please. Awesome job!
