Petition to help archive LittleBigPlanet's community levels:
www.change.org/p/sony-release...
If you haven’t heard the news, Sony recently shutdown the online servers for Little Big Planet 3 on Play Station 4. Nowadays, video game server shutdowns are unfortunately way more common to see, especially with older games from the PS3 and now even PS4 era.
This server closure in particular though was pretty devastating to see unfold. It felt like a slap in the face to fans who invested countless hours on LBP over the past decade and a half.
There were signs pointing towards the game’s eventual shutdown such as an increase in more malicious server exploits, but the way PlayStation handled it was just straight up awful.

The thing that pisses me off the most was how sudden and disrespectful it was. If they had to shut down the servers, they atleast could've archived all the levels that were on people's earths. Literally 10,000,000+ user-created levels are now pretty much lost media. Thank you Sony.
I think they can still be viewed and played on emulators but those aren’t very accessible to everyone
Thank you sony for dumping millions of hours of work into the trash
@@SlushysSecret The Beacon servers DO NOT have every single level archived.
@@HippyDipps I'm more disappointed now
This is a good way to put it Me and my little sister have so many memories together on lbp. Breaks my heart. I wish I could at lease taken a picture of my planet . RIP
LittleBigPlanet is like a heart, and Sony just tearing apart through your body. Or a gear that makes machine function, and Sony is removing it.
The game was so fun and unique, yet Sony didn't care about the creativity of hundreds of thousands of people worldwide and decided to shut it all down in the most disrespectful way possible !
The worst part is that LBP is still POPULAR. Even Xbox and Nintendo fans know who sackboy is, and their only way on capitalizing on that was a spinoff that doesn't even have a create mode? I will never understand sony...
Sony would rather make countless hyper-realistic slopfests than a genuinely fun game with an artstyle
(Well, none of the teens at my school have no knowledge of Sackboy or LittleBigPlanet, That kinda sucks. While SBABA had really good costumes, the game pretty much has zero replay ability due to how the game is.)
It's like this companies are legitimately allergic to making money, it's so easy literally just make LBP4 and people would eat that up and you'd make a ton of money, but nope, make a crappy RPG spinoff that has none of the characteristics that caused the franchise to get popular in the first place.
r.i.p lbp my childhood:(
The exact same.
My too 😢
It’s not dead you can still play it
I want to live in a timeline where the LBP servers never got shut down
Same
AND lbp4 was released as a GOOD game
Same.
don't we all
I have a better solution
We aren’t giving up. We can say #saveLBP to PlayStation’s and Sackboy’s Twitter (or X)
sony pulled a LittleBigFinger on us
Nintendo murdered Splatoon.
Microsoft murdered Halo.
SONY murdered Little Big Planet.
The video game industry is broken and needs to be fixed.
How did nintendo murder splatoon?
@@SinanPurtas Wii u online server got shutdown
You're dumb. It costs money to keep up servers. LBP was done dirty, but splatoon and halo are both still alive franchises, and its not like theres anything users made that just got deleted in those games either.
EA murdered the entire Maxis in 2015. I’m really worried about MediaMolecule now.
LBP is literally the heart of PlayStation. But due to PlayStation being scummy, they decide to demolish this wonderful franchise... It was my childhood. And now it's vanished from the PlayStation series forever.
Sony didn’t know what they had with LittleBigPlanet, there’s so much potential with the franchise. I also find it a shame that the LBP servers didn't have a good sendoff, and I wish Sony gave us more time to say our goodbyes to the servers before they shut them down.
I remember growing up on LBP. It was the first game that introduced me to games in general, and I made friends I still talk to 15 years later. It hurts watching my childhood game crumble to dust...
RIP to all 100 escape Jeff the Killer and Mortal Kombat levels 😢
Those where classic levels they will never be forgotten
i do hope media molecule realizes they're fucked as a company if they don't make another lbp game.
I don’t know why they dropped it and gave it to sumo in the first damn place. This game felt like it was sadly doomed from the start.
@@jembellthey wanted to move on to something greater as a studio, i don't see any reason they would come back to lbp now
@@smugay Well, despite loving the true genius at Media Molecule, they mainly did little games after Littlebigplanet 2, only Tearaway and Dreams.
I think that the thought of "making a greater game as a studio" is fair and good but imho, didn't really worked out that good for them.
I find it quite sad, they indeed have the power to make awesome games.
@@magojohiro Tearaway and dreams were massive projects for the studio, both majorly failed tho
Tearaway was made for a dying console and dreams just didn't appeal to the mainstream, its very complex and lacks limitations in the creativity you can have as a player and that was a problem. It led to lack of universal art style across all different user creations and a bombardment and overwhelming of the average dude that just wanted to make a silly little thing. LittleBigPlanet was the perfect formula dreams failed to capture. MM is a great studio, but they will likely be shut down before they match their magnum opus series
I will eat a sock on video if MM makes lbp4
over the past few years we had no choice but to watch this game die, this game had a unfortunate end, the amount of creativity and charm this game had was something simply astonishing, all the old levels I had made, all the good friends I met, the memories of this game will simply ever die, this is truly an End Of An Era to the millions of people who played this game
media molucule's games where fricking underrated
@@southmoltondancecentre1401 i dont think they are underrated, but they did def deserve way better because this game carried the PS3
To put into perspective how much this series means to me, because of meeting one friend on lbp3.. I have met more of his friends and made new friends with this man. We made a friend group chat of us five. It’s been almost a whole decade since then and there is almost no day that goes by where all of us don’t at least talk for hours. 2 of my buddies (including my little big buddy) are graduating this year, 2 other friends are looking to be promoted to manager of their respective jobs, and I’m getting my first job soon while on the waiting list to be an electrician. Thank you little big planet for literally changing my life.
wow, that's just awesome.
It's just disgusting, & really depressing to think about. The worst part is, Sony is responsible for LBP3's failure, yet they just think it's because no one gave a crap about the games anymore.
This franchise deserves some damn respect already. #SaveLBP #MakeLBP4 #SaveTheLBPUGC
Edit: & if the resource servers being online DOESN'T mean they'll create a public archive, it better mean they're finally making an LBP4.
But lbp3 still sold more than lbp1 and lbp2 so why then 😭
I think this is the fundamental problem with LBP and Dreams. With Valve games, anyone can make a server if they are willing and able. Worlds are saved as files on the PC. With MediaMolecule games, yeah, it's easier and accessible to make levels, but the User Generated Content doesn't stay long.
It's weird to see relatively modern games vanishing before older games.
I think the problem is that they are console exclusive games. The PC versions of most games seem to last forever whether officially or through the community.
i think if that sackboy platformer game got put on PC, theres a good chance they could put a proper LBP game on too. Nobody wants to work on that kind of thing though
I think the reason why MediaMolecule are like this, aside from whatever exclusivity deals they have with Sony, is because they treat both LBP and Dreams as games first, creation tools second. It makes a little more sense in the case of LBP since they have actual campaigns on top of being a creative space, but the point is that it also hurts accessibility of these games in addition to preservation, and that doesn’t allow these games to reach their full potential because they’re all held back by being on playstation. All I could think about when I first tried Dreams a couple months ago was, “dang this thing is so powerful, they should put this on PC as a legit game making tool. Too bad that’s probably never gonna happen though.”
@@KorjiUborji Definitely agree about Dreams. I think both gaming consoles and gaming PCs are great, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that consoles are more geared towards being replaced than PCs. If games aren't brought over to the next console, they'll end up stuck on one machine with no support. PC games seem to be much longer-lasting in that regard. If these games were released on Steam in an alternate world, I feel like this kind of thing would be near impossible.
Yeah, thats something i started to realise over time and is that LBP was kind of like the right game at the wrong hardware. It was too ahead for the PS3. If it came out on PC instead it would not just benefit of the online servers but also having infinite thermometer and being able to export and import more easily things, especially PNGs and so on to use as stickers (for example).
Another mistake was that LBP3 kind of ruined LBP1 and 2 community levels and splitted the player fanbase between all of their servers.
LBP is still a masterpiece, but is probably the only console exclusive i ever played that since day one it had a huge bottleneck just because it didnt came on PC. Though a part of me still has hope for a decompilation or "reverse engineering" that ports these games to PC and makes them exploit their maximum potential as well as being easier to run in any PC (without emulators).
It really made me realize how much influence corporations have on our childhoods.
Wow, this is an eye opening comment.
If this franchise ever came back it needs to be a launch title for a new console. The game deserves a console life of support
Incredibly depressing. I knew this was coming and it still hit me so much harder than i could've ever imagined. So many memories just gone at the same time. Despite having played on Beacon servers for over a year, this is still incredibly heartbreaking and i very much hope archival efforts are successful. It is nice how together this community has felt in the last couple days though, really brings me back.
So long LittleBigPlanet Online Servers RIP LittleBigPlanet Online 2008-2024
As much as I dont think Sony will do this, I hope they do allow people to archive their creations.
I remember seeing an ad on the TV back in 2008 for LBP1 and I hated the look of the game funnily enough. Who would've guessed I'd go on to meet some of my lifelong friends on there. So many treasured moments were had on that game for myself and many of us, it's a sour end to a magnificent ride. None of this feels real at all.
Sackboy really is Gwimbly
He is
True
He IS But Without The Ooo Ooo Ooooo
They should be allowing users to download their levels or just levels in general since the content servers arent dead yet.
The main issue is that even with the servers offline you are still bound to get corruptions, so it will still delete all those levels on your moon and everything in your pop it
@@SlushysSecretunless if you were to backup your levels
@@King1A1 doesn’t the shut down affect back ups?
@@SlushysSecret backups on moon no
@@King1A1 but you need to pay PlayStation plus for backups
I will still be waiting for the LBP4. I just don't want it to end this way.
the person behind the petition made a website, and it says that only 0.05% of all creations were actually fully archived successfully. if i actually used the calculator and my brain correctly, thats only 500,000 archived creations. which leaves 9,500,000 creations unarchived.
this is a big issue. #SaveLBP
Nope, that's only 5,000... off by a factor of 100, which is terrifying :(
@@jessveness if they had known they were gonna shut the servers (it was off of a unexpected attack) they shouldve started the archive prosess early so more levels would have survived
Ever since PS3's servers got shut down I had this dream.
Dream I could get myself a PS4 and keep playing but I never had the chance to but I kept holding onto it thinking I'll have my chance. Just one more time.
and then it slipped by me just like that for the second and final time. I missed my last chance to ever play this game officially again. There goes the game I played since I was a child. Buried in a shallow grave
It’s not dead, you can still play it
Same, I never really got to play LBP3 because I didn't have a PS4. Luckily, I was able to play LBP3 on the PS5 while servers were still up. It was so much fun playing with other people and playing random levels even with all the bugs in the game. R.I.P LBP you will be missed! ❤
At least with Mario Maker, Nintendo gave _tons_ of warning that the server was gonna be shutting down. Sony... I don't think they _wanted_ people to know about the plan, they didn't _want_ archival to be possible.
What I find absolutely insulting is that they'd back off and give up against a single hacker because apparently it's not "worth" it.
But they don't hesitate to throw in millions of dollar to remake or remaster games that don't even need them.
The Last of Us 2 for the PS5 doesn't need a PS5 remaster.
The Last Of Us Part II Remastered pushed the series to 40+ million sold copies while the ports cost less than $30 million each yet bring in millions more sales as well as such are far more profitable than spending said millions to waste resources on a dying franchise with an ever decreased community
@@bamban_garcia5562 from what I heard, that's only in the UK. Unless I'm wrong, I've heard that it got labeled as unnecessary in other countries due to the fact that it offers nothing but slightly improved graphics and that's it.
@@user-so4ov7re3s Whatever it did helped push pass the series total sales over 40 million copies sold, so even if the changes were minimal there was still enough interest there
The entire LittleBigPlanet franchise means so much to me, it made me the creative person I am, and it made me a gamer, and it made me even happier then I already was. I bought LittleBigPlanet 3 for the first time in 2019, buying it for my brother. I bought it for myself the next year, and started really getting into the game. Later on the PS3, I bought LittleBigPlanet 2, and then LittleBigPlanet 1. And also on my brothers PS3 account, made an entire Sackboy load out on Modnation Racers with the promotional items he got with a code from 2010. Also on PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, I got Sackboy to level 300. I loved LittleBigPlanet, and I’m never going to forgive Sony for taking the franchise that helped them during the 7th generation down. Thanks LBP
Honestly if Sony respected this game even a little more and done more with it lbp could (even though it already is) be better than Roblox
Sunsetting LBP is a weird choice from Sony. Now, they don't have a child-facing mascot while all the other consoles do. I think LBP4 would have been a success since Roblox took its place.
LBP, Twisted Metal & other games were treated like garbage. It's sad how they treat iconic games.
Rest in peace my childhood game littlebigplanet
What a heartless sendoff to such a titan of the PlayStation space. I lost some levels I'd made at the age of 10 that were on my Earths (had two accounts over the course of my time on PSN) and didn't have because of being hacked + some to profile corruption. I spent hours making levels, and now they're all innacessible, sitting idly on a resource server in a basement somewhere. Companies can be really soulless sometimes.
I love is series and I hope that medium molecules next AAA online title is a littlebigplanet game
Why didnt they do what the original mario maker for the Wii U did? Where the levels were saved but no new ones could be uploaded?
R.I.P a fantastic game...
I remember I was so hooked to lbp when I was little, there was a tornado coming through our neighborhood and I argued with my mom to keep playing
and then when the power went out I got upset because I forgot to save my moon level
lbp really was my childhood. I'm glad private servers exist but it's just not the same.
I’m about to cry. This is so heartbreaking. I just can’t believe it, really. Little Big Planet was such a big part of my childhood, spending countless hours building and playing levels, enjoying music on there, spending time with friends and family.. I haven’t played since 2019. But damn it, it feels like I just lost an old friend that I’ve talked to daily forever. Sony, why are doing these things? You were better back then. Way better. And not so cold.
Fuck Sony for destroying my childhood.
That's all I have to say.
Back in the day Sony cares so much about LBP, all the way from 2008 to 2017, and soon gets worse in 2024, they destroyed our favorite childhood game that has over 10 million levels, and yet, Sony does not care, it’s sad that LittleBigPlanet gets less respect from Sony, but, I know it’s because of exploitation in the game but shutting down permanently and leaving it behind will often worsen it, including the LittleBigPlanet Community, it feels like they’re just leaving it behind like it’s trash, getting put in a dumpster, when I was little, I played mostly LBP 2 and sometimes LBP Karting before I played LBP 3, LittleBigPlanet was one of my best number one childhood games… LittleBigPlanet deserves one or more things for sure…
1. It deserves to be recognized
2. It deserves more respect
3. Needs more attention
4. It deserves to rise up like the other PlayStation games
We will not forget you, LittleBigPlanet, you never fail us to make us happy, since Sony is getting greedy(?) for letting the community down and never gives a darn thing about it, if we have news about a upcoming new LBP game or trilogy (meaning all the LBP games which is LBP 1, 2, and Karting together in one package), I HOPE SONY DOESN’T HAVE TO YELL, like I swear, I hope Sony doesn’t do something stupid and reckless just to rush a game company like Media Molecule or Sumo Digital to rush through it, because it’ll make the game not good and it’ll end up buggy like LBP 3, and I want Sony to let those two game companies take their time working on a new LBP game(?) soon
Correct me if some parts is wrong
I recently started playing on beacon and it’s brought back so many memories. Although its not perfect as its missing majority of the old community levels I’m still glad I’m able to experience lbp2 with others again
I think this is the straw that broke the camel's back for my support for Sony. They didn't even try saving LBP so why should I try supporting them in the future? On top of that most of the exclusives they've been promoting are kind of lackluster and generic IMO, and they've been shutting down fan projects like Bloodborne Kart left and right.
This is the problem with treating games as products and not art.
Dose this mean you’ll finally do your LBP karting retrospective we have all been begging you to eventually do?
Good idea 🤔
@@BlazingVictini22We can only hope for LBP 4..
@@BlazingVictini22 you should also do a retrospective in Run Sackboy Run I know there’s almost nothing for the game hell both ultimate Sackboy and prehistoric moves have way more content but it is as the first LBP or LBP franchise game not to be only on PlayStation. I did enjoy your prehistoric moves retrospective so after your Karting retrospective I would THROUGHLY love a retrospective on Run Sackboy Run as well. If you feel like enough time has passed you could also do one on ultimate Sackboy or Sackboy a Big Adventure as well.
@@SnubbyDaArtist that will never happen we want it though
Jesus do we even know what caused the mess this time? Last time it was some spiteful hacker.
Great video! Also, you posted a link to an Ayee video with the petition in its description, instead of a link to the petition itself. Not sure if that was intentional lol
This game is very important to me. One of the first games I have ever played, last game I played before my ps3 died.
Because the levels arent archived, 10,000,000+ fan-created games are now gone forever; 18+ years worth of dedication are lost in an instant. Thousands of hours of memories are wiped from the face of the earth
Goodbye little big planet… ill never forget you
Someone actually did archive them. Over 10,000,000 levels saved
After seeing them not even bothering with 4 and just put out a adventure cash grab as a final nail in the coffin, all i can see anything resembling it is restitched
To me, it looks like the general consensus is that there should at least be the opportunity to archive levels as you mentioned. I don't expect Sony to keep the servers up forever, but to be honest I do expect some notice, I thought it was just common courtesy.
would i still be able to access photos on my moon if i hopped back on? are those files strictly stored server side and not local? i have a lot of pictures on my earth that i wish i could get a hold on real quick
If you ever wondered what’d Minecraft be under Sony, LBP’s shutdown and MediaMolecule’s demise is what could’ve happened to Minecraft. Both games were driven by creativity and imagination, just like The Sims, Mario Maker, SimCity, Terraria, Bad Piggies, and many other games of the era. The world would be a much worse place if there’s no creativity left in it, and it is clearly on decline now. I blame Sony, Electronic Arts and other major publishers who buy these small creative companies like Maxis and MediaMolecule, and run them into the ground until they wither away and shut down. MediaMolecule is BY FAR the most creative and unique video game company that exists today, and Sony seems to make sure to completely ERASE them from history, like they never existed. If that ever happens, I will do my best to avoid any Sony product in future, this company keeps screwing everyone except their investors.
No way I download the game today to play for the first time in years and find out the servers just got shut down 😭
Worst part is that restiched isnt out yet
What is the name of the music @ 1:15 level play for LBP?
NM Found it "Disco Divertimento Duo"
We need a remaster of LBP and Modnation Racers
Hell, we need everything related to media molecule to come back. I miss the 2D LBPs, i want to play the UGC levels in LBPK, I never really knew about ModNation, man Mm deserved better.
LBP 1 2 3 are all still running and playable on pc with multiplayer and new levels being made everyday I’m surprised not many know about this been playing all weekend
God man I still remember Coming home from school and opening LBP 2 and seeing the intro I didn’t really like it that much but honestly now with all LBP servers shut down you really don’t know how much you love something till it’s gone bye all the stupid levels I made in LBP 3 I’ll really miss you and I know that there’s gonna be emulators and stuff but still I’ve been playing for 11 years and the people that played since it came out just for you to be too lazy to even try to keep the servers up like this was a big part of the ps3 and to just throw it away is disgustingly tragic just because it is not financially worth doesn’t mean you forget about your fans stop stabbing franchises in the back PlayStation
Millions of childhoods down the drain, I'm really hoping Sony at least can release the levels, for now yall will see me on Beacon
I am so lucky that I have some of the stuff from my brothers account so when I went in little big planet three, I don’t want to my moon I still saw a level. There was like an online one, but it still worked. It was the Mortal Kombat one.
I wish LBP2 got the same treatment as Minecraft, if they opened it up across platforms and kept updating, it could have been a direct competition to minecraft and terraria.
Everything i spent there is gone, hopefully one day? In another life perhaps? lbp is reborn maybe not the same but something that held its soul its purpose like we knew it for. Goodbye to my truly dead childhood of just having fun online with my friends making new ones and having the privilege to even be apart of the community
I loved playing this especially the weekly challenges
I was upset I can’t play the Disneyland world in little big planet😭😭
It’s so sad to see that it’s gone
Wait you could play online levels on ps4? I didn’t know, I thought they shut down community levels years ago. When I tried to enter community levels on ps4 it didn’t work, may be I don’t understand something
I played LBP since 2017, i guess but in 2022 i could't play the online levels, i tried reinstalling the game, but the disc was unreadable, it was a sad day for me...
lbp was deffo ahead of its time
My problem is the fact that by shutting down the servers, they are giving the bad actors exactly what they wanted at the cost of everyone else’s enjoyment. The same exact thing happened with LBP 1 and 2, hackers attacked the servers and Sony chose to kill the service for everyone instead of addressing the issues.
The platinum for the third game is also now impossible to get 😕
giving Sony a LittleBigMiddleFinger for lbp1 and how that wasn’t maintained
This really does hit hard...
What about lbp 1 platinum trophies how Will I get it.
I just wanted one of my levels off my earth. It was a plane level me and my little brother made together when we were kids. It wasn’t the best creation but it meant something to me
So many memories, friends, laughs I made on the game back in 2011-14. Sad many kids today will never be able to experience again 😢. I really don't get why Sony mistreats the franchise like this. Was there ever a reason why they shutdown the Japan servers of LBP back in the summer of 2014? We lost so many talented creators.
I'm kind of angry that we we're promised the servers would be back but I'm hoping that we can get a archive of all of the UGC data and it can be stored on those community made private servers (like beacon or refresh) and maybe that we can get an LBP4.
Not with a bang, but with a whimper.
The thing that cuts deep is that this marks the franchise as officially *dead.* Whereas Super Mario Maker 1 got closed off years after the release of the Nintendo Switch sequel, this game got cut off with no loose ends, gradually becoming more and more abandoned as time went on and the PS3 exploits and server hacks grew. LBP as it is, is basically gone.
I miss LBP. Sometimes I wonder if Mario Maker had a hand in its demise but it didn’t deserve to die
I revisited the game in 2023 to make a game I actually tried on. my profile got coorrupt and now this. why 😥
Wish I screen recorded all my uploaded photos and pics I was tagged in on my profile. Thats history right there
I really don't understand how Sony could drop LBP to that extent.
Now the LBP Community experiences the same Fate as ModNation Racers, PS Allstars and PS Home
They could have made it so at least the top 100 levels ever made were saved for those who can’t play online like on PS3 before this could’ve still played community levels. I wouldn’t mind a large update or install if it meant I could play community levels. The story mode is ok but short and will get dull quickly. Community was near infinite experience always different. Favorites were destroy the city, angry birds bomb survival, and level that plays itself.
Remember back then everyone in the family members cousins brothers sisters we bring controllers and one PS3 playing LBP I was like 8 -11 old
New im 23
o7 Last but not forgotten🌹🌹
This sucks, man. I remember playing lbp2 like sooo much back in the day, gonna miss this little game and it should’ve gotten a proper send off 1000%
another thing that sucks is that people managed to get lbp1 and 2 levels on lbp3
people who can no longer access their ps3 can’t even go back to the other games now :(
does this mean you are still able to play the game itself? Like the story and the such?
If LBP3 got a major patch to fix the most common issues, and got ported to pc and next gen with all the previous story mode levels packed in it would sell human livers in a chinese black market
They should just add a community tab on sackboy or lbp 4

So sad to see the older generation go and the sad excuse for our generation with our totally awesome different EPIC ! realistic shooters and our spidermans PS5 exclusives.
This sucks this was my favourite game for 3 years😢
sony became the literal villain that lbp warned us about
the difference in sony's creativity after the second half of the ps4 showed us how uninteresting and bland the future of sony is with most games thats coming up being so boring compared to the ps2 ps3 and first half of the ps4 life
little big planet is pretty much the reason i started getting into gaming and even the reason why i bought a ps3 a ps4 and a ps5
and to see sony starting to treat it like a sort of shame like how they do with their past exclusives so their "mature" games could take the spotlight is just so wrong to me
i hate the new playstation with how they treat their incredible past exclusives and hope that they would go back on this new direction they are taking
Lbp3 was the first game ive ever played. And now after 7 still the best one
I remember when the LBP PS3 servers shut down and some people were meatriding sony lmfao.
I grew up with this game, it saddens me that this happened to something so wonderful as Little Big Planet!
I’m gonna use little big infinite to play lbp 3 like nothing happened
The first lbp game i played was the demo, i loved the game the first time i played it, until hackers showed up and the servers got shutdown, atleast we have custom servers.
