    I love your work. You're not explaining what GRRM is doing with his story. You're explaining how and why stories are told, and how that applies to this particular story. Your analysis is much more than ASOIAF bullshittery.

      True, but the bullshitter can be fun too. I have no real opinions about N+A vs R+L, but it's fun listening to folks lay out the perceived evidence, and they can be useful as supplemental reading for LMLs discussions. Gray Area's re-reads are pretty fun, and of course, so are Quinn's Ideas.

    The bran scene is right before what would have been the 5 year gap. So originally it would have been the last scene we got with bran before he was a trained greenseer and the symbolism matches that.

    I like this series, the live stream was good too. Hope the back is doing better and you've earned some much needed funds. Looking forward to part 3 and any other live streams 💜 also I have a gorgeous 5 string Yamaha, she doesn't have a name though. I like that you gave yours such a cool and ancient name with some deeply personal meaning too. Now your bass has extra character!
    Oh yeah.... cool video too, I had thought of some of this stuff when I read world of ice and fire, the potential connection to norse myth. But I was mostly working from the bits I knew, so it's cool to get your in depth study into this and your thoughts.
    Take care 💜
    PS. I agree with your thoughts on relationships too. Was married for ten years, married young. We're still close though. I'm now in a new relationship... Well it's been like 4 years, so it's not really new. There's pain when you realise that your relationship has died. You have to grieve, but everyone is so much happier now. We're all in a better place and we were clever enough to see it before we hated each other, and so there can still be love ❤️

    Great intro, excellent video.
    I always interpreted the great winged snake, fires, & such to be Summer trying to understand the fire in the castle & the damage it’s causing out of sight. There are other passages where Bran gets his consciousness muddled with Summer’s & misinterprets things. That doesn’t preclude the other layers of symbolism that are woven into the story.

    Question: I have yet to find an academic journal or professor who studies the field of "mythical astronomy." What is the origin of this term and what is its relationship with your approach to understanding ASOAIF?

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  3 роки тому +14

      I made it up, ha! Almost all myth has a component which is commenting on the forces of nature and the movements and cycles of the seasons and stars. So it’s really just mythology that is functioning as a kind of proto science. The word astronomy on its most basic level simply refers to the observation of the heavens. It doesn’t have to involve advanced machinery or science. Ancient man encoded their astronomy into mythology, so, mythical astronomy.

    Also, I'd like to point out that even Weirwoods need their fiber (Bran). No one wants to be backed up for all eternity. Not even the trees. After all, there are 14 grams of fiber in one cup of raw oat Bran. (I'm kidding. But this stuff is super fun to speculate about.)

    This is literally university level literature studies. Thanks so much for your analysis and effort. Btw do you think there's also a lot of Tarot symbolism? Specifically the Major Arcana. Eg the Tower card, Wheel of Fortune card, the Sun, Moon and Star card and the Hanged Man (Odin)? The most usef Tarot system, the Rider Waite, actually bears way more similarity ti ASOIAF than the Game Of Thrones themed tarot deck (I think you have it, I do and recognised it on your shelf in one of your videos).

    • @TheAstroWitchLux
      @TheAstroWitchLux 3 роки тому +1

      For example, the tower card in the most common deck, the Rider Waite, is literally an image of lightning striking a broken tower and people falling. I shit you not.

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  3 роки тому +1

      so yes, the answer is a resounding yes. The tower in particular is used as a motif in all of Bran's third eyes scenes, from Winterfell to Queenscrown to the Nightfort to Bloodraven's cave. These 4 scenes are all linked together through the Tower symbolism and themes. I actually documented all of this in King Bran 3: the God on Earth, so check that one out! I need to learn more about the Tarot (which I've just started studying seriously) as a whole so I can draw out further parallels - take a watch on that video and leave me a comment and tell me what else you see going on... I'll watch for it :)

    the friend who got me into ASOIAF needs to see your work. where do i tell him to start?
    background: he told me when i started reading to look into fan theories (particularly the dornish conspiracy-less interesting to me but that’s where he’s at), and that’s ultimately how i came upon your treatises of starry wisdom. he will definitely be into what you have to say, but he will need to start somewhere logical with material that’s easily digestible, due to having already been exposed to lots of stuff that is on a totally different interpretive track from what you bring to the table. and having seen or heard (nearly) everything you’ve put out, im not sure i can figure out myself what the best starting point would be. im so on board with your mythical astronomy that i have come to take all of it for granted. and there’s so much. what should i link him to first?
    unrelatedly, im digging this series. moar!! (but take time to keep your brain healthy)

      Gosh that’s a good question. I probably have a handful of answers, based on his area of interest. The Weir Walkers is really easy to get into, Garth the Green Man if he’s into green men, Isle of Leng if he’s into Lovecraft, the Great Empire of the Dawn: Dragonlords of Ancient Asshai might be the best overall answer, that’s just a fun, kick ass theory and it has cool Lord of the Rings shit in part 2 (Westeros). If the interest is show vs. books, particularly with Dany, Bran, or Jon, you can steer them towards Born to Burn the Others, Lord Snow, or King Bran 1,2, and 3. Any of those are good starting points... thank you!

    LML could you someday talk more about the squirrel on the tree? It seems like Bran on the tower. Implies a lot in that direction.
    Is the tarot card "The Tower" part of Bran scene symbolism or does it apply elsewhere?
    I take "umbrage" at the Horn of Winter being a horn you blow, it's a drinking horn.

      'drink from the cup of fire, drink from the cup of ice'
      And yes, the Tower card is all over bran's scenes; 4 of them, to be specific: WF tower, Queenscrown, Nightfort, and Bloodraven's cave. Check out King Bran 3: The God on Earth for the story on that!

    I keep thinking about old nans story about “living in a giants eye” ever since you postet the first part of this series. Because giants are a big part of norse mythology and Odin descents from giants and there is also mentioning of “the eye”. Can’t quite put it together yet. I wish I was this focused on the actual studying I have to do 😂 Thank you for the great great content 💫

    I feel like in the dawn days there was multiple greenseers around the world for each of asoaif elements or something like imagine the 14flames being a fire greenseer the arm of dorne had water greenseer and the destruction of Valeria the arm of Dorne being taken out is the conflict between the almighty greenseers now we have two ancient seers near the same regions maybe student teacher relationship like Bran and Bloodraven but the Ice seer is confronting the other greenseer

    There's a bit of Greenser/Children of the Forrest symbology in Bran's falling chapter. Ned calls Bran a squirrel. He also says "you're not my son", but I can't really fit that in anywhere.

    Hey I love your videos and I know this question isn't related but I was wondering if you have any videos or plan to do anything relating to other faiths like The Seven, Drowned God, etc and your theory of their true origins and such like you do with the Old Gods?
