Advanced Notebook is a powerful tool that we need on other devices (looking at you, Remarkable) and I think it will be a major factor for some ppl. That, and the screen.
The pen that comes with the HP spectre x360 2018 is a similar pebm that uses a AAAA battery and it can be used with the elipsa. I assume the elipsa pen also works with my laptop, but I haven't tried yet.
There are a number of active pens that will work with Elipsa, but they are usually not associated with readers, so reviewers rarely have access to them.
When you look at how much the Kobo Forma costs, and I think it's been quite popular, the larger Elipsa with the additional note taking features is not that outrageous for its price. The problem is people now compare it to a full blown tablet. A full iPad or Android tablet can do a whole lot more, but none offer the e-ink experience. Compared to other large screen e-ink note taking e-ink tablets, the kobo is in the same ballpark.
Please tell us some detail about how good or bad manga is on these larger 9inch and up size devices in the future, please its the only reason I keep watching all these videos.
Interesting comparison, thank you for putting these head-to-head. My Elipsa arrives tomorrow, looking forward to playing with it, tho I do regret giving up my collection of EMR pens. Had the Boox Note 3 been $399, I would have went with it instead of the Elipsa.
Nice, but a screen comparison is missing in this review. Kobo seems to have a superior screen with clear whites and high contrast. Also aspect ratio seems different.
I personally am interested in being able to mark up PDFs and books for study. The note taking is also really nice to have. So both functions are equally important for me. I like that the Kobo is more of an ereader. Though I love my Kindle and the Amazon ecosystem. But I would probably sideload all the books I would use to study with on the Kobo.
As a Chinese, I have to tell you that boyue have collapsed due to some complex reasons. so I don't think it's a good choice to buy likebook p10 due to the fact that consumer rights might be harmed.
For someone like me who primarily reads comics, I agree! A lot of other people I've seen elsewhere on UA-cam (in videos sharing their thoughts about their e-readers) mainly read novels, so I imagine they'd be fine with greyscale, similar thing for most illustrated novels I've seen, but those of us who read stuff like comics and picture books, as well as illustrated novels that are in colour, would appreciate colour displays!
@@MegaAluchi It's not colour. I have a Likebook Mimas (10.3" greyscale), and am holding on to it until a Boox Note with a colour display comes out. I do also have a Boox Poke2 Colour, but that's just for research purposes and isn't my primary reading device.
@@kbhasi I heard there would be no release of 10" color e reader this year in 2021. That is because the color e-ink carta technology can't handle the 10" size. Recentlty, I had the 8" in my hand at Chapters store, and it felt so small...not sure how people use it for newspaper and magazines if they use reading glasses. That is the reason I m still holding out for a 10" color
That somehow sounds ironic because I had heard news about the Kobo Elipsa using a newer model of a display from E-ink that I think was called "Carta 1200", which I don't think Boox offers yet. EDIT: I forgot that Boox has a contrast control, whereas Kobo doesn't and instead does some automatic optimisation stuff in the background so that the user doesn't have to worry about that. Also that I keep referring to the Kobo Elipsa as the "Kobo Eclipse", so I corrected that.
Thank you! Was waiting for this comparison...

i was wondering the same thing, i have one of those (finding the AAAA batteries is a b*)
Great review! I’m most interested in the Kobo, but man that price is brutal. Haha

Great comparison! I prefer Boox Note 3, no doubt.
Don't need all the crap on the Boox, Elipsa all day every day.
Thanks Peter for this review. I prefer the Kobo Elipsa because it is dedicated to reading and note taking.

no problem
a lot of people wanted just a simple side by side without any overlays or effects, so we did exactly that :)
@@goodereader could we have another comparison now that kobo fixed the latency?
Why you don’t mention anything about contrast , black and white , in your review , it’s important
I think Kobo Elipsa latency is lower after software update.
Yeah, it was something wrong with the software. It is still not as fast as the Remarkable 2, but not at the very bottom any more.

What about the screen? Elipsa should be using the new screen (HD carta 1200?). Is it noticeable?
When taking hand written notes is there a way for spell check your notes.
Kobo Elipsa Vs Boyue likebook p10

Thank you so much bro
After looking at color e-reader these black and white looks old-school XD

@@kbhasi what size of color e reader you use and which one?
I have been waiting for a 10 inch at least
Thanks

Interesting. I could also very well end up with a Boox Note that uses a Carta 1200 display like the Kobo Eclipse has.
Onyx screen seems to have more contrast.

I'll never forgive Kobo because it had a simple chess game but they deleted it in a single os update.
since when
Really like the Kobo :)
Noice!
Is that MUSIC playing??? (Ruins the experience for me.)
