Official music video for "Leave It Alone" by Mary's Danish from the 1992 album "American Standard".
Mary's Danish's "Don't Crash the Car Tonight" became a regional hit in Southern California before the band was even signed, when local 'Alternative Rock' station KROQ began playing the song off their demo tape. The band eventually made a deal with indie label Chameleon, who released their debut album "there goes the wondertruck..." in 1989 which garnered some decent reviews from Rolling Stone and other national publications, many proclaiming Mary's Danish as the 'Next Big Thing' .
In 1990, Chameleon released an EP called "Experience", which was recorded live at the Ventura Theatre in Southern California with a studio recording of live staple "Foxey Lady" tagged on. (The show was also released on home video under the title "Mary's Danish Live".) Unsatisfied with the distribution Chameleon was providing at the time, the band left the label in late 1990 to sign with upstart Morgan Creek Records, an offshoot of the film company. This delayed the already-recorded Dave Jerden produced second album, "Circa", by over a year with it finally seeing the light of day in Summer 1991. A third and final album was released in 1992 called "American Standard". After being screwed over by Morgan Creek, the band disbanded in 1993 as a way to escape their contract.
Gretchen, Louis and Wag formed Battery Acid who released an album in 1996, Dave King and James Bradley Jr formed Rob Rule and released a record in 1994 and Julie Ritter released a solo record in 1999. The band also reunited for a few sell out shows in L.A. in the late 1990's. A truly great band...they continue to be missed.

This band had such a great, unique sound. One of the forgotten treasures of the music industry. I know one of the singers loved metal. I like the edge in this song (since I'm a metal fan as well).
Your parents' band was AWESOME! I saw them in a small club on Miami Beach in 1991 or 92. One of the most energetic shows I've still ever seen. It's been more than 20 years and all my MD albums are still in my play rotation.

Great memories in the early nineties...saw them in Hawaii at Pink's Garage...wore that Mary's Danish ballcap for like 5 years. Where di all the good music from the 80-90s go? .....Julie and Gretchen together....shivers up the spine 8)

I have a 20 year old cassette from a boy i had a crazy mad crush on in hs. He made a tape with this song on it and wrotw out the lyrics... He got his point across ;( devastating at the time, stayed friends but it wasnt unyil last week that i learned who it was... I remember in las vegas many years ago this band was slated for a protest at the test site and i never made out there. i don't recall who turned me on to this band but i forgot how rockin they were or are. who knows. that band perimore aint got crap on the danish
During that weekend, Mary's Danish played the ancillary Hundredth Monkey festival held at the huge drainage basin at the end of Charleston Blvd, where it turns left to go to Red Rock Canyon :) They headlined that fest along with X and Richie Havens ... Great day!

The Cashbox Looking Ahead book (by the way this song reached #114) said Mary's Danish is a pop rock band. They defanately are not pop rock! No complants though! They are good.
