I was the cinematographer on this clip. The talented Kim Dempster directed. We shot it in one night in LA. Some time later I used the vid in the BG of a bank commercial that I directed. The camera dollied past a conference room where a group of suits were huddled around a TV watching this vid. The band was great. Rock on! MG

Total 1989 flashback... this used to get played relentlessly on MTV's 120 minutes and "There Goes The Wondertruck" was a fabulous and underrated record from the halcyon days of college rock.

I used to go to the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California on a regular basis. One night I showed up and there was a $20 cover charge to get in. The band was Mary's Danish opening for Stan Ridgeway. I had no idea but I paid the cover and went in. I got to see them play in a room that held, maybe 250 people with a dance floor for just the cover! I will never forget how awesome their show was! I had no idea...

Was that the show where the dance floor was filled with small tables we sat at for Stan Ridgeway? He was solo and played the keyboard sitting down. A girl up front had birthday balloons which he popped with his cigarette.

Saw this band at Cal State Northridge. Was standing on the second floor of the Student Union Building and thought I saw a fight breaking out in the crowd. Turns out it was just my first mosh pit. Went downstairs to get some of that. Great times, great memories.

My band (Elvis Christ) opened for them at least a couple times in San Diego during those years. You probably suffered through one of our sets at least once or twice (unless you were one of the cool people in the parking lot of the Spirit, skipping the opening bands and waiting for the headliner!)

Somehow a There Goes the Wondertruck cassette wound up in my van. Never heard of MD before and no idea how it got there. On a long nighttime drive home from Atlanta I popped it in the deck, listened to it, somewhat annoyed but it held my interest. By the time I arrived home five hours later I'd played it through as many times as arriving home allowed. It kept me awake and I bought the rest of their albums. Edgy lyrics, excellent musicianship all around. A totally different JBJ drummer than when he played with Chuck Mangione; this band was so neglected and underrated.

One thing which always intrigued me about the Danish was the presence in the band of James Bradley Jr. on drums. Bradley certainly has had an interesting career. I first knew about Bradley when he played in Chuck Mangione's band on the Grammy-winning multi-platinum album "Feels So Good" and on the critically acclaimed "Children of Sanchez" soundtrack album. Then I saw Bradley perform live at a dive bar in East Hollywood playing with an unknown singer/songwriter named Crow Ballinger. Then I came to learn that Bradley was a member of the Danish. Talk about a variety of musical styles and levels of success! I wonder what Bradley is doing these days.

Saw them from 2 feet away at The Crazy Horse in Boise, 1991. Still can't believe they all fit on that tiny stage! If I win the lottery I'm putting them back on the map. They deserve to be famous and we deserve to hear more of their amazing music!
BTW, they went on to play as Battery Acid -("Rita" name of the album) when they left their shitty record label. Check it out and get your fix!

never let a word in edgewise that doesn't cut me down
    feeling only as you stumble
    can't see the reasons why
baby don't call me don't even drive by
tonight it's over and I'm not sad
    it's you who said goodbye
    CHORUS
don't turn on the light now darlin
I don't want to see your face
if you can't hear me crying
I'm sure you know the reasons why
    let's forget about last night
    it can't happen again
    Don't crash the car tonight
    it doesn't suit you anymore

I still want to know: Is Mary Danish or does danish belong to Mary? Grammactially, written one cannot differentiate. A quick look at Wikipedia only indicates "Named after a line in an old songwriting attempt...," which does not answer the question either. So,
WHAT IS IT? MARY IS DANISH OR THE DANISH BELONGS TO MARY?
