I agree with you, everyone should be tested in their 50s but the doctors need to teach and talk to all patients about the test and doctors need to counsel all patients on proper nutrition and exercise at that time regardless of the outcome of the test
Awesome video! Yes, yes, yes to early screening. I accidentally found out at age 53 that I had osteopenia/osteoporosis when I had an MRI for a bump on my foot and the bone density didn't look right. I then had my first bone scan. Had I waited until I was 60 or 65, I would have probably found out because I had a fracture. I am so grateful for the scan on my foot that discovered an issue I had no idea I had. With my recent education around all of the options available (e.g. strength training, lifting weights, diet, etc.) I at least feel less anxious and much more confident that I can at least do something to help improve my numbers. Thank you again for all of the fantastic information!!!
Male DEXA scan at age 61 as screening for a study showed severe osteoporosis with a D of 22. I was able to figure out the cause and raised my D. 20 years later my bone density is substantially higher. Insurance payment for the scan is now $140 so there is no good reason not to get one whether insurance pays or self pay.
Hi! Checkout my series on vibration plates on my channel. We go into detail on all of this. The first video is called "Vibration Therapy for Osteoporosis (Episode 1 of 3) | Interview with Dr. Clinton Rubin from Marodyne"
What is the norm comparative group? As a 105 lb female...Of course my BMD is going to be less than the average woman of 5'5 and 170 lbs. Though I'm not sure what I'm being compared to. It would be nice to be screened at 20 or 30 y/o, then a z-score would be ideal.

Density is a measure that is “total weight” neutral. People of any weight can have bone loss, so Bone Mineral Density measures what you have now against what you should have…or should have had when you were younger and your BMD was at its peak.
Yes to early screening!! I had my first scan at 56 only because I asked (I have Type 1 Diabetes) and it came back in the osteoporosis range. I had to find my own way to HRT and other strategies to address it. Had my second scan a couple months ago and the numbers have improved. No reason not to give people every chance to gain knowledge about their bone health!
I want to thank you for the free Master Class. I highly recommend it to anyone. Even more so the educational materials and the workbook offer an excellent big-picture framework for someone like me (very healthy and active age 75 but for osteopenia) to systematically review what I’m doing-and what I could be doing more or better-to improve bone density and quality, and to measure progress (so lucky to have a REMS in my area!). It’s all too easy to get distracted by this treatment or that supplement, and lose sight of the fact that, in my case anyway, correcting Vitamin D deficiency, high protein anti-inflammatory diet, hormone replacement, and strength training are already doing most of the heavy lifting. I probably take too many supplements already but I have researched and will be adding lactoferrin, thanks to your suggestion.
Where is your video about Hexarelin? I don’t see it anymore. I can’t seem to find any Drs here in Switzerland that will prescribe peptides and I wanted to discuss this one with my Dr.
I wonder if Combat wounded PTSD affects bone health? Getting put back together after so many surgeries a bunch of us in our 30s have been told we have osteoporosis? Seems odd. Regardless, God Bless this Country, my fallen Brothers and our Freedoms....what a wonderful place
One thing that interferes with hormones is cortisol. Cortisol is the stress hormone. It increases under extreme stress lack of sleep, too much exercise and yeah PTSD is being in a chronic state of stress. Work on decreasing cortisol. Morning light exerside, nutrition, meditation, hormone replacement ect. If your metabolically over stressed your body is unable to function and repair. I would like to know if red light therapy would help build bone it helps lower cortisol and tissue repair.

@Dr_DougLucas VA has us rated 10% osteoporosis. All total that makes me 430% disabled. They all say stress can cause PTSD. I'm just curious about your opinion/thoughts? They say there's studies?
My daughter just broke her leg falling off her bike. She's 57 and is physically active. She broke her tibea and femur. She asked the surgeon if this was because of weak bones and he said no. He did CT and/or MRI, so could he really tell from that?

Who came up with these scores and decided what is osteoporosis and osteopenia? Also how can they judge risk (FRAX score) without knowing a person's lifestyle? If I do skydiving or trail running for exercise, wouldn't I be at a greater fracture risk than someone who walks a little and does yoga for exercise? Or if I work delivering heavy packages all day and compare with someone who is retired and sits at a computer all day - wouldn't the "Frax" risk be a lot different?

Wish I had been able to get a Dexa at age 20, so I could actually be able to compare to myself. I didn't know about Dexa back then. I knew I was at risk and was doing what I thought would prevent and help. I have always had a medicine 3.0 mindset. Not able to get a Dexa until in my 50's, revealing very very low T-scores. Not able to get another for 7 years.. same or slightly inproved, so at least seemingly stable. Added HRT once cleared for it, and taking advantage of more access to research and your HSN to hopefully get out of the hole as osteoporosis specific meds contraindicated. I can't help but wonder if I ever reached peak BMD, and wonder how long it has been this low. Knowing that also would give me a better idea of what activities are safe enough for me, as I had done a lot of supposedly unsafe for low BMD activities in my late 30's and 40's... many of which I would love to do now.
Better then DEXA, no radiation; REMS Echolight Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry from Italy. I would like to hear your opinion. After all the treatments i had, no more for me. radiation for me

Man is living longer and longer. Humans weren’t meant to live as long as they do. Modern medicine changed this. Our bones didn’t get the memo. I think there’s only so much we can do 🤷🏼♀️ Also this bone building teaching needs to start much younger before bone loss starts . JMO
Average life expectancy does not mean that all people died at a young age. It just means that mortality in children and youg people were high. Those who survived those critical ages also reached old age. Michelangelo died at 89y.
