While shopping at an outdoor market, young reporter Tintin (Jamie Bell), accompanied by his faithful dog, Snowy, buys a model of an old ship called the Unicorn. A shady character named Sakharine (Daniel Craig) and later an American named Barnaby (Joe Starr) try to buy the model from him, but Tintin refuses. The lad discovers that the ship contains a clue about a hidden treasure, but before he can locate it, Tintin is kidnapped and given over to the custody of drunken Capt. Haddock (Andy Serkis).
Gotta love how Mr. Silk is more offended at the idea that he is a thief than he is afraid of being caught.
He’s not a bad guy, he just has an unhealthy illegal habit.
He is a cleptomaniac. He dosen't want to steal. Is like an alcoholic addiction. You want to stop, but you just can't, and you'd rather be caught so that someone can help you get actual help.

It is wonderfully clever that they added birds spinning around Mr. Silk’s head IN-WORLD. That’s just an amazingly clever way to keep the animation realistic while also harkening to old cartoons.

What's amusing is that in the original comic, the Thomsons got swindled enough by the pickpocket to the point where they recognized and arrested him the second they got to his house. Here, they're so vacuous that they don't recognize the guy at point-blank, even when they see all the shelves of wallets.
That said, their disguises later on in the film aren't horribly out-of-date stereotypes like they usually have in the comics, so the Thompsons aren't completely devoid of competency.
I believe that they were pretending that they didn’t know him so that they could see what was inside the place to be absolutely sure that he had all of the wallets.

oh! Now it makes more sense, as a Brazilian, I'm getting used to the original version (in French) of their names: dupond et dupont. and I found it very strange that they both had the same name in English.

Thompson and Thompson is what I would call goofy but intimidating, they act like cheery gentlemen until you remember they are supposed to be detectives and they even sync well with each other, being twins and all
I'm amazed they managed to do a retelling of the Telltale Heart with a pickpocket and Thomson and Thompson.

This is the first and only animation that really set the bar (for me). The atmosphere and people actually look like they have weight to them physically and also emotionally due to great performance of the actors.

• etc
(All realistic computer animation films I love by the way, but again, this pushed the limits for me)
extraordinary, a film made later - in some cases many years later - looks better then both those earlier films and a series with far lower budget and disparate styles

I like this version of Mr. Silk better than the one in the comics/animated series. Because the version of Mr. Silk in this movie isn't a bad man or a criminal, He's just a guy with a bad uncontrollable habit. I mean they may say that nothing justifies stealing but I'm just saying just because someone has a bad habit that they can't control that doesn't mean that they are a bad person.

It's so weird, I didn't even recognise the voice, it was a facial expression I recognised in the mocap that I just knew was Toby Jones.

They did their best for the scenery capturing the feel of the 19th century expansion neighbourhoods around the old city centre.
If he simply had walked through them than rushing to his apartment he would've gotten away 💀

“Piggy leather!” This stuff and “freshwater politicians,” and that the camera follows Tintin chasing the bird and the pan outs why this is my favorite Spielberg movie.

Steven Spielberg must have had more time, money and resources than Robert Zemeckis ever did, because the performance capture animation in Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin looks better than any of the Zemeckis films.
It helps that Spielberg had access to WETA’s resources due to this being a collaboration with Peter Jackson and had Andy Serkis on board. Not only did he have the best motion capture company in the world who helped create Gollum but he also had access to a man who’s motion capture performances are so legendary that there’s genuine controversy he didn’t get nominated for an Oscar for his motion capture performances in the Planet of The Apes movies. He had all the pieces together to make it work, unlike Zemeckis who just hired regular actors and had them perform without thinking of how the camera movements and style would effect the general movement of the characters

Thanks, when I saw this scene in the cinema, some kid started wailing.
I’d have been furious if I hadn’t read the source material, I’d have had no idea what was going on.
But yeah having some noisy kid in the cinema can really kill the mood.

I presume its two different spellings? The joke is they take a fairly generic surname with two popular spellings, so in English it's Thomson and Thompson when in French for example it's Dupont and Dupond.
