Produced by Kevin Oeste and V8TV Productions, Inc. - Our 1965 Chevelle has a 10-bolt rear axle, and while preparing the housing for some detailing and upgrades, we show you how to remove "c" clip-style axles. This is handy if you're changing gears, differentials, or upgrading to disc brakes. It's a pretty simple trick.

thanks for the help it help me alot.
Great educational video, guys. You are learning well.
As was mentioned earlier you don't have to remove those satellite gears. Just remove the locking bolt and carefully slide out the pin. Try not to disturb the those gears so they don't fall out. It's a pain to put them back in. Also, the locking bolts I've seen have a lot smaller head than the one they have, and it can be in there tightly. Go easy on it when removing it, because it can break off and then you have a big problem.
@xavios18 I was thinking the same thing, good point
The 10-bolt's pretty tough, but everything wears. If it has a lot of regular miles on it or a fair amount of strip use I'd at least get it checked out before you drop the new rat in.
10/10 stars! Im actually taking apart my 97' chevy z71 rear end gears, except all the spider gears are worn as hell, excellent video!
I was thinking the same thing, but I think they planned to change out the shims as long as they had the chance. It's not a bad idea if you have the whole rear end off and it isn't such a bitch to get them in there right.
WOW! Thanks so much. This video was SUPER helpful and informative!
***10 stars all the way!!!***
that center shaft looked easy to take out. I am hitting on mine with a hammer and it still wont come out
Thanks for posting this vid! It made things a lot easier.
@aknowneemus Look towards the hub, pay attention to whether or not its got a loose spring in between the hub and the axle itself
If that doesnt work then,im stumped.
Awesome vid thanks so much guys!
oh, and nice video, thanks for the upload!
Who is the guy behind the camera??..his voice sounds familiar..
@swampthing1034 Yeah, dont weld anything, you will end up with a failed attempt, unless your an amazing precision machinist. And what car, what make, what model. I dont see how youll ever use a sprocket either, oil expands when it gets hot and if you have any holes in your housing, it will leak.
you dont need to removed the satelite gears to removed the c clip just removed the pin and push on the axle dude
definitely Ron Swanson behind the camera.
Ones without broken teeth.
i have a question I have a 04 silverado 1500 4.8 and got my truck re geared didn't to the spyder gears then this month I cracked one and the other well got torn up so I cant for some reason take that shaft pin out like in this video it just slides right out mine is stuck on a spyder gear that goes tru the shaft what could i do thanks anyone could help
Good job. Now throw that rear end in the trash and and go get a Ford 9" :-)
that is how it is done - d'oh! okay, thanks guys! :)
Dude this video was a big help! Now where can I buy one for my 88 Chevy 1500?
that's not a pin. it's a bolt
dude your taking out the pinion gear shaft not the spider gear shaft. the spider gears are on the axle next to the C clips.
What's the best gears to have in 06 silverado 4.8 for positive traction
Does the same procedure apply to a 7,5" 10 bolt on a 2000 Z28 ?
10 bolts suck, why the hell would you use one?
