    Spot on .... social media!
One thing they should have done was to do a free (not behind a pay wall) live stream for the 2 days at Thermal to get the fans pumped up for the new season.

Especially if the main purpose of the event at Thermal was for teams to attract new sponsors. If Indycar did a free live stream of the test, those potential sponsors would have benefited from a free platform to advertise their products & use the sport of Indycar racing to do so.

I am a 52 year old man. I live in Indy...I go to the 500 and other Indycar races all over the country. I can say this without hesitation that I would not have gotten into IMSA racing without getting hooked on Forza a few years ago. I think Indycar needs to up the console gaming plan. Not saying it would solve any problems but it would certainly help spread the word about how intense Indycar racing is.

I think you made a lot a great points about the social media part and keeping the content going year round. I would love to see shop tours on the off season. I want to see what a shock dyno does and how teams work with shocks. Show me inside the hauler and what maintenance is done off season. Go to engine rebuild shops and show us what they do. One reason I have fallen back in love with sprints and midgets is because of the great content I’m finding on social media about that type of racing. I probably watched over 40 hours of racing on Flo from the Tulsa Shootout and The Chili Bowl this year because of following a lot of the racers on UA-cam and social media.
$$***&&$$$ THERE SHOULD BE A SIGNIFICANT UPGRADE TO THE CARS IN INDYCAR EVERY 5-7 YEARS!! It needs to be built into the business model.

Posting content and being active on social media in the offseason is honesty even more important than during the season. It keeps fans from completely forgetting the sport and also adds and brings in hype and anticipation for when the series begins.

One thing that's bugged me about Indycar's UA-cam ever since NBC took over is that there's been so much that's been put behind a paywall. Prior to 2019 we got nearly every practice and qualifying session streamed on UA-cam and full races would be put up within a day or 2 of them happening. Now, everything since then has been locked away on Peacock. It wasn't until a few months ago that the 2019 and 2020 seasons got uploaded to UA-cam. At the very least, the full races need to start getting put up on UA-cam again.

I think IndyCar would benefit from having two "Spec" chassis rather than just the Dallara. Competition between manufactures is always exciting. Agree with David. IndyCar actually used to be ahead of other championships around 10 years ago (specially F1), but they've been overtaken faster than DW overtook a damaged Hildebrand.
Also, I think they should emphasize around the fact that this is the American national championship, which also happens to be the oldest racing championship in history (over 100+ years with different names and organizers). Obviously the Indy 500 is the biggest race of the year, by far, but you also have plenty of other exciting and in many cases historic races as well (Long Beach being the best example), and if you want fans (specially casual fans) to focus the entire year the 500 can't be your only bargain chip.
And regarding cars, I think it's difficult (and counterproductive) to try to match F1 with the difference of chassis. However, it would be nice to add a second chassis manufacturer and let each team decide which one to use, similar with Honda and Chevy with the engines.
Oh, and I almost forgot. But one of the best ways (if not THE best way) to get young people to watch is to have a good video game for both console and PC. And IndyCar not only hasn't had a standalone game since Scott Dixon was a one-time IRL champ, but also has its license kidnapped by the worst racing game developer currently in the market.

My biggest gripe with Indycar is the way they schedule the races. It is so herky jerky. The opener in St. Pete is March 5! Get the fans excited! Then take 4 weeks off. So when they come back a month later, who gives a shit? I think the only time they have races 3 weekends in a row is the last 3 of the season. That's not the way to build a following. I would like to see more races, but if not, at least compress the schedule.

Roger Penske’s inability to separate profit from success as a mindset is slowly killing the series. He runs a top tier team in his series but is unwilling to eat a potential loss to run a highly publicized one off. On top of your well made points; an annual video game is a must, I know one is in the works but it's been almost 20 years FFS. Also the season needs to be longer, 20 races would be the sweet spot and get rid of one of the Indianapolis Road Courses so we've got 4 more slots to add in total. Make 2 of those ovals to try and tempt some of the older fans/stock car fans who prefer oval racing to the sport. Merchandise? I go on the official store and the options are so sparse compared to F1.. doesn't help I live in the UK and shipping is about $40. Also I know this is reverting back to the point about the schedule but imagine a double header weekend at COTA with F1, I know there would be some logistics to sort out but I think it would do wonders for the series. I see soo much potential in IndyCar and we get every qualifying session and race broadcast over here in the UK on our Sky Sports F1 channel now.. people just need some encouragement to tune in.

Like the Pacific Northwest even though there is a race in Portland. I remember the CART days as a small child in which they went to both Portland and the street circuit up in Vancouver & going to both races each year from 1997-2000. Those were awesome experiences & adding Vancouver back onto the schedule would certainly grow Indycar's fan base in Canada as well as bring in large crowds from the Seattle area (where I live). This is because Pacific Raceways is mainly built for the NHRA & the road course that is attached to the drag strip is far from the standards needed to host an Indycar race. Indycar also needs to put a few more races in the Southeast such as Atlanta at Road Atlanta (Atlanta Motor Speedway is too dangerous for Indycars) or even try to do a race at a small oval like North Wilkesboro or Richmond.

F1 is popular for one major reason... teams. They have a constructor's championship and this the focal point of the series despite the fact that the drivers are idolized. The fact that it's a team sport is reason why F1 feels like year round sport.
The solution to Indycar's lack of popularity is really simple. Indycar needs a team championship, which basically would require each team to have the same amount of cars per team. I think with 10 full time teams they can mandate 3 cars per team. This would make it 30 cars on grid all season long. Implementing a team championship would raise the awareness and interest in the teams. It would bring more casual fans to series who just want to watch one team beat another. Indycar has some prestigious teams, but apparently nobody seems to know who they are or have any interest in them. A team championship would give the team purpose and dramatically change the way the series is marketed.

I'm in Canada and, in recent years, even the Indy 500 is behind a paywall on a subscription sports network that has little other content to interest a racing fan. I know all these roadblocks _can_ be circumvented, but how many will bother if F1, NASCAR, etc are more readily available? The cars would be mechanically the same as suspension and powertrain should be the same basic package but when you look back on when CART was top level and rivaling F1, you had at least 2 different cars and possibly 3 fighting for supremacy. then obviously something else happened that killed it but that's beside the point. if you ask me, I only care about Indycar when they drive down I-80 to get to Newton. Plus I did have the thought of having Indycar do a "Knoxville Prelude to the Nationals" or something of that nature because quite honestly Dirt Racing is probably taking the US back over as far as racing in general is concerned. I know more people who watch and enjoy dirt oval racing than either NASCAR or Indycar.

Just because the Honda/Reynard/Firestone was the package to beat doesn't mean that it wasn't good to have the others competing. I know there isn't the same amount of sponsorship money out there now, but I think IMSA is showing how to attract multiple manufacturers while also keeping the cost of entry relatively low. Indycar also NEEDS to promote every race on the schedule outside of the Indianapolis 500, I mean in terms of that, just look at NASCAR: last night they had the Busch Light Clash at the LA Coliseum mentioned numerous times during WWE Friday Night Smackdown on Fox, hell, they even did a segment where Rey Mysterio and The New Day were hanging out with Michael Waltrip and Clint Bowyer only for The Judgement Day and Ross Chastain to show up leading to a race around the track between Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik Mysterio because Rey is feuding with his son with the segment ending with Rey winning the race and Dominik throwing his helmet at his father and Clint Bowyer leading everyone to be separated by track workers from Auto Club Speedway... Teams and driver lineups are mostly finalized by the end of the current season, yet again, nothing to talk about. Six months from the end of the 2022 season to the start of the 2023 season and then another month between races, that's a lot of filler time when the only thing to really talk about is if more than 33 teams will show up for the 500 and make qualifying worth paying attention to.

And how does a spec-racing series have a 5-6 month offseason??
That goes back to the 'American-based' thinking of… "We don’t want to compete with the NFL during the fall."
