  • DOES YOUR HOUSE NEED A REWIRE THAT IS EXACTLY THE QUESTION ON THIS JOB THAT I AM ASKING? This was made in the 1980s and has now unfortunately got quite a few faults on it in the electrical system. There is possibility to repair, but when does it become an economical to do that. So I've replaced the consumer unit carried out a full electrical test on the property and we'll go through the findings together and I'll be interested to see in the comments below. What would you do?

You say you can’t polish a turd.
But you can roll it in glitter. 😂
And that you did. Looks miles better. Great job 👏🏻

As it’s their forever home then a rewire is a no brainier. Agree with other posters that an EICR would have been better unless the old CU was immediately dangerous as you’ve just spent time on doing something that will be redone.
Also since you’ve rewired the CU dosnt that make your company responsible for the installation?
Lovely job on the board though.

You're responsible for faults that should have been obvious during your testing and inspection after the board change, like broken rings or missing CPCs on entire lighting circuits. Not for everything that could possibly be wrong with the installation.

I have a 3 bed semi detached house with only 1 final ring circuit which includes the kitchen wired in 2.5mm twin and earth cable and the only thing that saves me having to rewire it is diversity the bedroom sockets are rarely used they only have tvs plugged into them where the main bedroom tv is the only one used for about 1 hour at night, the downstairs sockets only have a TV and wi-fi and 1 free standing light the kitchen is the only place where sockets are used on a permanent basis ie fridge and freezer and items like kettle ,toaster, micro wave and washing machine ,that's where the diversity comes in , all the items are never working at the same time,so the final ring circuit backed up by a 32A rcbo breaker

Yes, the only substantial loads in a modern home are in the kitchen. Might be worth putting that onto a new circuit. There's one caveat though. If the existing wiring is dodgy (and that single with the CPC sleeved black is quite suspicious) it might be easier and cheaper to rewire the whole lot than to fix what's there.

If they’re redecorating, a rewire seems the best option, as it’s an ideal time to do it, add more sockets and get things done right first time and then replaster being confident that newly decorated walls will not need to be disturbed for a long time.

Normally old sockets are better quality than new

I would of done an EICR first before changing the board then explain all the problems to the customer before a new board

Please lose the background music. It's hard to concentrate on what you're saying!

Rewire the kitchen - should bring the zs down on the ring and take a massive load of off the the 1 ring.
Obviously new circuits for the extension.
CPCs - tighten up sockets. In this case change them.
CPC being used as a neutral?? That's a new one. Seen a switch line but not a neutral. That's a full rewire of the circuit to be fair.
In all honesty, just rewire the lot. I know it will cause disruption but really......it needs it. It's now a safety issue and an accident waiting to happen. Hopefully the bonding was all in place

No switch fuse for the tails? 😆great video dude. How do you like the BG Fortress boards? I'm still loving the Fusebox boards to be honest.

If they're going to the extent of a new heating system potentially floors are coming up anyway so just rewire it. It's a fools errand to try and repair it if it's that poorly maintained as it could spin into a rewire anyway. It's better to plan a rewire and if some areas can be kept if they're found in good condition that's a bonus and a saving.

Was the left hand RCD broken, hence they moved stuff across to the other one?

Wouldn't it be prudent to have carried out an EICR prior as you have circuits that are off for some reason plus circuits that have, for some reason, been extended?

Interesting vid mike, could the low ir tests be due to worn outlets etc ? Still learning here mate

    • @Ragnar8504
      @Ragnar8504 7 місяців тому +1

Very unlikely. Low IR can be damp creeping into back boxes, degraded cables or damaged wires (screws run into insulation and stuff like that). You can also have weird things like ant colonies in outdoor sockets or lights.
