- Suzuki has brought back the SV650 name, but has it brought back the magic that made the original a cult classic? In this video, Motorcycle.com Features Editor Troy Siahaan, a former SV650 owner and racer himself, takes the new SV for a spin during the model's U.S. press launch to see if Suzuki hit the mark, or hit a dud.

No one ever regrets buying an SV650!
I want this bike so god damn badly. Its so good looking and such a good rider according to everybody thats ridden it. Looks muuuuch better than the FZ07 in my opinion
Ben Dover same here
Currently ride a sportster and am looking at this bike seriously. Great review I appreciate it.
Glendora Ridge Road! I have an FZ07 and I want to ride the new SV650! I think it will be better in some ways: stiffer suspension, longer wheelbase, ABS option, v-twin will rev nicer, metal tank, etc.
I really like this bike, I'm so getting it because I am love!
Wow it looks great! good HP, good price, another FZ07 value machine! FZ07 this year looks super nice too and a little bit more you get a FZ09, very cool machine, the new Katana (kinda, sorta)
Glad it was troy. He's my favorite on the channel!
Awww shucks. I'm blushing.
Troy is my second favorite. :-)
Well played.
Ha ha. :-)
helpful review. It is funny when a kid says "that is what I used to do back in the day. :)
Troy's not quite a kid... he's young but you can tell he's been riding a long time.
what road was that filmed on? looks like a fun time
what road was this it looks amazing
Going to pray to the Motorcycle Gods that the insurance for the SVs doesn't skyrocket in Canada anytime for the next while. Probably going to be picking this up as my next bike now that I've gotten into riding. Holy moly it just offers so much it's bonkers, and at the price point it is I think it's nuts to pass it up. Think it'll fit a featherweight skeleton of a 6'2" guy alright?
Excited to see the comparison between this and the other class competitors. The insurance on FZ-07s where I live writes that bike off for me unfortunately, but I'm seriously looking forward to it nonetheless.
Also not a 1-piece exhaust like the FZ-07 so you can do a slip-on!
How do you compare the SV 650 vs Z 650 in general , which one is more aggressive ?
A great value bike. Change the silencer and put in a lithium battery to drop the weight and it's a great all-rounder.
Just wish they would've made a SV650R with the front end from GSX-S750, for example and also the brakes and maybe some other small tweaks.
One question, will it suffer from oil starvation if you do wheelies like the old one? Someone asnwer please a friend is looking to buy one soon !
I'm taking bike lessons , got my test booked and as soon as I pass I'm buying one of these, was going to buy a ninja 650 but its sounds lame , the mt07 is too expensive to insure , the honda cb650 is boring , so I'm getting this, sounds great imo , looks nice , not as nice as the mt07 though looks wise .
will there be a faired or partially faired version? always liked the sv650s with the full fairing kit.
The Suzuki folks wouldn't tell me anything, but if history is any indicator then expect to see at least a partially faired version in a year or two.
I can't wait to see it up against the Yamaha. Should be good!
2007 weight spec is 379lbs. Same motor plus 50lbs means slower bike. Slower all round. There are two 2007 SV650's for sale in my area. One naked, one full fairing, both blue. Died on that year have fully adjustable front suspension. No-brainer.
So it's either the SV or Street 500 by price. Interesting choices.
The cheap swingarm spoils it. I am torn between an SV650 and an XSR700.
The latest sv650 has 4 piston calibers. Breaks should be good now
Just ordered a red one, won't get it until September....
why cant suzuki make a triple to compete with the fz09 or a bigger twin cylinder like an 800. that would make me happy
Yes, I agree!
meh
If the GSXS 750 was a triple i'd have probably bought that over my SV650. But my new SV is still such a great little bike.
2:31 "To help that lol in the rpm" AHAHAHAHHAHAHA!! XD
The word is lull. As in lullaby.
as in "lull". Lull is a real word.
Oh, well this is awkward :/
haha I feel stupid now.. D:
I want it so bad
Where is that road? Great footage.
It looks like Glendora Ridge Road in Los Angeles
+Jared Adler Thanks. Planning a trip to the US this fall, so it's good to know.
I also have one
חלום סגנון קלאסי מושלם
I have an ‘83 Nighthawk 650 SC that put out 72 Hp and I didn’t pay $7k and i have air adjustable assist and
Is it a good buy at $4000 2017 a little over 1300 miles? I think so but let me know if not please. I'm really liking what I'm hearing about this bike.
Shaquawn Colton Go for it!
I live in the Keys. I had a 600 and 1000 sport bike. Did not like it at all. Didn't enjoy the ride but more police. This will be my new bike shortly.
Oh I forgot, insurance is 10x cheaper, no bs
I’m 1.93 m tall . Is this height good for this bike ?
I'm 6 foot 2, is this bike big enough for me?
I haven't watched the video yet, any bets on how many times they say flickable?
not one time?
How much are you betting?
i test this bike in the track! its so easy, and nice to ride with nice cauges and sound BUT, the brakes its very very spongy and it looks like a 300cc bike! the second is the worst
I'll be selling my zx10r next season for a new one of these
Did you end up doing it?
I plan to buy this bike, one thing bothers me, it's the rear suspension travel of only 2.5 inches, the other bikes in it's class have 5 inches suspension travel at the rear, can anybody comment on this, will appreciate it, thanks.
Can you turn the low rpm assist off?
Nope.
Why would you need to ? It comes in handy.
produces 5 more hp than the 65.1hp on the fz07 for 500 more?! I will take that thank you Suzuki is back baby! They got a new gsxr 1000 that looks amazing, brought back the sv650 that my neighbor had and now they made a new manual car that might make it's way to the US?! Did they fire the last head engineer or something?! XD
FZ07 has 75hp
Thats bhp (break horse power) in other words at the crank not whp (wheel horse power). I never count the bhp because you don't feel it since the weight of the bike with the chain and wheel makes it lose 10%. The honda cbr650f makes 87hp but only 78 to the wheel. You see what I mean?
+Taijean Moodie I know that, but you can't take the SV650's bhp and compare it to another bikes whp. Gotta do whp to whp and bhp to bhp. They both have 75 bhp claimed but the sv650 falls short with 47 ft-lb. torque compared to the yammi's 50.
The sv650's bhp? Really? I did not know that lol oops. Although I'm confused that a parallel twin is making more torque than the sv650 v twin. I do know that Yamaha gave it the cross plane crank that the r1 and fz09 has but I did not realize it would make more torque.
+Taijean Moodie ya I'm really curious to see what the Sv650 does on the dyno and find out what it really makes. Hopefully it does more than the Fz to make up for the extra weight.
Why the reupload? Curious.
comment section got juvenile.
We had to make a minor tweak to the video.
You guys gonna do any direct comparisons with the Gladius? I finally got to ride the new SV. Out of the S1000F, DL650 and S750 it was my fave, but I've never ridden any previous SVs to be able to compare it to.
Why would you ever need low rpm assist?
Gris
I actually like the bike and it's fun to ride but c'mon Suzuki, in XXI century with that headlamp? I wish they would create something like Yamaha FZ09. At least as option.
Kostiantyn Style is subjective, I personally love the headlamp
I feel the same. Give us led or hid
looks like a ducati monster
BAbukkakkis yup but that one is better
The only reason hit the dislike button, is because it is annoying to try to listen when you speak with the sound of the motorbike at the background at 100% volume !!!!!!
0:36 That shitty google images clipart though
doesn't it need TC and D- modes!!!!!
nowhere near enough power to need either this thing has about 75 hp whereas the 600/750/1000 gsxr's have 120/140/160 hp (approximately)
This is gonna be a fun machine compare to my my r1 and gixer 600.
Is it a thumper?
This motorcycle is not a character in Bambi.
(90 degree v twin)
C. Walker I see one cylinder. That's why I asked.

Tyler Rue
The other one is there hidden behind the frame & coolant expansion tank, under the seat. Were it a narrower angle V like most cruiser engines, you'd see it more.
Ah. Thx. I had an FZ-07 last year and I had only then heard the term "thumper", referring to a single cylinder, while my bike was an in-line 2.
SV650 or Duke 690?
honestly. i would reccomend to test them for yourself. no one can tell you what you will feel when riding a certain bike. hope this helps
lol. nice. Harley Davidson vrod.
+cuzimaluzer777 Sonic or Mario?
How much do you want to spend?
V-twin or Thumper? 7 grand or 9 ? Suzuki style or KTM.. you have to ask yourself what you want. Both are great machines. I'm more for the KTM because I tend to like the KTM styling, but the thumping twin is always something my heart desires!
low rpm assist really? whack!
hideous exhaust and seat, honestly if they wanted to bring back the classic, at least spend more effort on the styling, the front is nice but back is just hideous
I want to know why it turned into a fat pig? This weighs 50lbs more than its original. WTF???
First
I mean NO OFFENSE to any "naked-bike" riders or lovers out there,BUT C'MON Suzuki!!! I KNOW it's now a popular "fad",to scale-down a bike, and REMOVE any and all fairings off of it,to give it that "cafe-styel" racer-look. BUT JUST like with any OTHER "Fad".........it's EVENTUALLY going to come to an END!!! For pete-sake,ADD ALL the fairings BACK to this bike like they did in the 90's!!! Now only does it LOOK so much cooler that way,but today's composite-materials,it ALSO would not add all that much weight to it EITHER and help it with the aerodynamics as well!!! Just sayin........
Fad? They had faired AND naked version of the SV in the 90s.
Yup,your 100% correct on that one too!!! They DID make naked-versions of those in the 90's,BUT........I RARELY SAW many of them back then!!! But yes,I know they DID appeal to riders back then (including ME!!!) All I'm saying here,is the past few years,it seems that our social-media has turned online-sites that "specialize" in turning bikes into "cafe-racers" ,popular again, and the bike-manufacturers are paying attention to that!!! Some LOVE naked-bikes (Me being ONE of them),others do not!?!? But if I wanna put my $$$ on a "stylish" looking sportbike,I WANNA SEE a fully-faired,aerodynamic machine that LOOKS FAST just sitting there!!! Just my opinion!!! :)
tell me that you have CHANGED your WAYS about putting things into CAPS to EMPHASIZE your POINT! i mean C'MON! its super ANNOYING! lol... i mean. LOL.
LOL. SORRY WRATH LAMP,and due to YOUR COMMENT ALONE,I'LL TYPE THE REST OF THIS IN ALL CAPS. JUST TO TICK YOU OFF!!! (AND ALSO TO EMPHASIZE ALL OF IT TOO!!!) BECAUSE I'VE FOUND THAT PEOPLE THAT COMMENT ON THINGS ONLINE,RARELY READ THE ENTIRE COMMENT,SO TO HELP.....TYPING THINGS IN ALL CAPS,HELPS KEEP ONE'S ATTENTION BETTER!!! AFTER ALL,IT DID FOR YOU,DID IT NOT? LOL.
Well, everyone has their opinion My Friend, and I DO INDEED appreciate Yours as well,as You also make a good point as well! Guess we'll just have to find a common ground somewhere!?!? :)
Still kinda under class and over priced
Compared to what?
+C. Walker
Honda cb500f 5999
Kawasaki 650 with abs and fairings 7599
Yamaha fz-07 6990
KTM 690 Duke cost you an extra 400 or get a cheap leftover
This bike was made for years and years the used market is so cheap you can get 4 used bike with new tires for the pice they are asking
