2017 Suzuki SV650 Motorcycle Review

  • This is the non-ABS version of the 2017 Suzuki SV650, a brand new entry level light weight 650cc V-Twin engined standard bike. It may be no frills but it is a fully modern, very refined little ride for the money. The ABS version comes in red with identical specs otherwise. While it may not compete with the tiny 250-300cc typical entry level bikes, remember that those plummet in value as soon as you sign the papers, where these certainly retain more. If you were considering the Yamaha FZ-07 you owe it to yourself to try this out for SURE.

Hey there brother. 3+ years ago this vid you made was the reason I bought my SV. It’s been one of my best decisions. Still got her but with some serious mods and love her as much now as the day I drove away from the dealership. So hope this finds you well and many, many thanks👍🙏

For those who paid attention to his comment about 250's not having resell, as a 25 year old who is part of a more cautious generation, I put my 250 on the market after the dealer told me how they sell like hotcakes because everyone wants them over 600's for starter bikes. Guy seemed to be spot on. Will be upgrading and someone else will be learning the smart way.

One of the best motorcycle reviews I have ever watched. Outstanding presentation. Speech is clear, vibrant and audible. Every logical consideration is touched upon. Literally, if there was an award for bike reviews this would top my nominations list. I only wish you'd have also reviewed the 2017 Ducati Monster as I would have loved a knowledgeable perspective from someone who isn't trying to take my money. Outstanding work sir.

I have done 7000+ km on my 17 SV650 - your comments on the seat are correct - the standard seat is uncomfortable after about 40minutes. Replaced it with the thicker and softer "Roll top" aftermarket seat supplied by Suzuki, and it is much better.

Thanks. ...good to know. I like everything about this bike but after sitting on one, the hard seat was a big turn-off and with the optional one having only another 5mm thickness, .....

great review and great bike.....but you should mention also that the bike has to assistance systems(at least over here in Germany). One is called easy start and one little push of the starter bottom will start the engine. Second is called low RPM assist....which is increasing the RPM by about 500 once you to try to go.....nice to prevent bike from stalling.
Overall great bike for the money.....and yes we have one(my wife....and I love it too). In red....great colour!

Your comment about confidence inspiring couldn't be more on its mark.... I put 190km on it for my first ride while continuing to follow the break in suggested by Suzuki.
Amazing first bike - this thing beats driving the Yamaha 230!!!

I don't normally comment on videos. I've been researching this particular bike, have read and watched a lot. There are a shit ton of goobs doing videos. I've been riding street bikes since '84, and I can tell the difference between them and real motorcycle people.Mr.Glynn, you are certainly not one of those goobs. GREAT job brother! I'm probably going limit my viewing to you and TMF. Keep doing you.

Great review with detailed insight on the riding characteristics of the bike. Almost as if I test rode it myself! Still relevant in 2021 as I believe nothing has changed on the SV650 except the upgraded front brakes.

You basically said this is an entry level bike that doesn't have a lot of power right at the beginning. I drive an SV650S and it will hit 60 in well under 4 seconds. More like 3.4-3.5. Then, 70mph is the highest legal speed limit in my state. So, like having a bike that's meant to go 150 is pointless for me. It's nice having a bike where I can sort of rev out gears and not be in jail, you know? Hahaha. I have been actually wanting a slower bike because it is still stupid fast around town. I want a bike I can rev out and push and not have to be going 100 to do that!

I"m 5'5" and I'm on my tip toes on both sides. I'm picking up mine later this week and hope to eventually find a way to lower it an inch without effecting the handling. Seat is way to thin to even consider taking any foam out so it'll have to be rear shock and dropping the front forks a bit. Thanks for the great review.

This is the review of this bike I've been looking for. I can see what it looks like, everyone raves that it performs well. Fine, I get it. But what I could not find until now is a review by anyone who isn't the size of my 12-year old niece. I am 185cm, 90kg, and was worried this would be too small for me, but you're slightly bigger than me and it seems to be a decent fit. Me, I'm not looking for an entry-level bike. I've been riding for 25 years, have been on super bikes and am currently on my second Harley. But I am looking for a different kind of ride for scooting around town, commuting, and just a change of ride feel. I don't want to spend a lot of money, don't want a show bike, don't care about excessive power. Can't even get up to the speed limit in my city for the traffic anyway. Looks like this bike just made my shortlist!

They are dwindling everywhere. Friggen Daytona Bike Week and there were only 2 there Friday, 2 more Sat and that's IT. I talked to the Yamaha team about it, they said events like this aren't cost effective anymore, they are putting resources in to just the dealer events. Really too bad. Even this year Suzuki limited us to ONE ride a day. Harley and Indian weren't even setup. They just don't get it.

Gotta wait a whole year till I can upgrade, currently 23(uk) and been riding my 125(cb125f Honda) for years now, it’s a great commuter and get me out and about when I want to. But been wanting something with more pull for the motorway.
Figured there wasn’t much point in me getting the A2 license and paying more just to ride an extra 30hp when I can just wait a year or 2 and get a 600 in a day 😱 just means I gotta wait 😂

The sv is a legendary motorcycle, atleast it was, till suzuki decided to scrap it and try the gladius, meanwhile yamaha caught up and created a better version and called it the Fz 07
squishy suspension, so the FZ 07 is cheaper and probably has better suspension.

#newrider /// I just bought a brand new 2018 SV650 (no ABS), just like the bike in the review.. Had a little bit of buyers remorse because my first street bike ever didn't have ABS but, I got over it soon.. Realized the deal I got was too good to pass up and, learning how to ride w/o ABS is gonna be good for me. Responsible w/ the throttle hand, and live in Cali...not much rain. Gonna keep it cool and calm. Can't wait to learn + ride more on the bike.
