Congrats on the first catch. I’ve been fly fishing for close to two months and just got my first catch the a few days ago. It’s definitely a learning curve but absolutely worth all the effort.
for casting tips on streamers/larger flies, see Orvis Pete Kutzer, keep your backcast lower, and then more overhead forward cast to expand you loop and keep from hitting your fly with the rod.
Thanks! I'll definitely check it out. I've learned that this rod is a little too soft for heavy streamers. I tried a dungeon fly and it was a disaster! 😂 It's part of learning new techniques though.
This was a tributary to the Weber River that I'd never been to before. I wasn't sure what I would find here... It turned out to be a pretty good place!

I had a hard time leaving that section! 😂 It's been a really good experience to take up Western Fly fishing. I'm very glad I have both skills now because they each have the benefits and work better in some situations.
got my first catch today also a large wild brown trout!!
That's awesome! Brown trout are really fun to catch. Keep it going!

That's awesome and I 100% agree! It's been pretty hard to learn, but well worth the effort for all the beautiful fish and places I get to see.
