Thanks for watching, friends! Here's a quick and easy way to make a shepherd's crook. If you don't have any sheep, you can use it as a walk staff! Please like this video and check out some of our other videos.
I've noticed how often your channel is suggested to me for many of my various interests but I'd never watched them for some reason so I figured were like minded enough I should give you a subscribe.
As I watch this crook start to bloom from a tree branch I just sit here and go... "My, how obvious it is" once you see it done. In my mind I was thinking "ok I'll assemble this piece to this piece with mortis & tenon and...." well lol thank you for showing me it's much simpler than how I assumed it to be.
Bosmer, we are so happy that you have found our channel!! We have had a ton of fun putting it out and we’re pretty excited about our future plans. Thank you for being part of it all!!
I’ve made coat hooks, stools and small tables from maple like that but it never dawned on me to make a Shepard’s hook. Guess I’m walking the back 40 to look at the downed maples. 👍🏻👍🏻
Is this tree crook method the most traditional way? I have been trying to make a staff via steam bending and they have all snapped. Tried red maple, white oak, and hickory. Thanks, great video
Hey Josiah, thanks for checking in with us. It is an old timey method, very traditional. Bending wood into that tight of a radius takes special preparation, the right wood is a good start- white oak is one. I have heard that when they bent ox bows for the yoke , the wood was buried in cow manure for a year- yuck. So I prefer the method described in our video.
Hello Tado Samardzic, welcome aboard. You are right, it’s getting pretty dull. I use it for trimming firewood throughout the winter, some of which comes in kinda dirty, so l don’t change the blade till spring cause that would be a waste.

this was great, I thought we were going to get a lesson in wood bending. I love the bandsaw just shows old tools last forever if taken care of.
Thanks Eric, I love giving old tools a chance to work again- it makes them feel useful.
No bs with this vd straight to it easy ways for easy days cheers
Thank you so much Simon for checking out our channel!! Welcome to the tribe!!
Your definition of “easily” and mine are a bit different haha! Awesome video, I enjoyed a winter lager this afternoon as I watched! :)

Thanks for checking in with us. The sticks you describe sound amazing! I’ll bet they are beautiful. Thanks again for watching .
Enjoy you more and more! Thanks for sharing your time! KANSAS
Awesome!!
The_kid, thank you for checking it out!
Nicely done! I've made a couple of crooks in a similar fashion (but with a handsaw)
Thank you Dana, I was trying to show a quick way to rough out a crook but the carving still takes a while. I think a saber saw would be even better.
I wouldn't have thought you could get that much of a crook from that branch 🤯
Hey Dave, how are you? It doesn’t take much, but actually that crook is a little small I think. But it did get the point across. Be safe.
I love this video because through this l met Harris Stick Maker!!
excellent
Hey thanks Sheepdog9,hope all is well with you.

Any suggestions on where to find a red maple tree like this?
Hello Shawn, thanks for being part of our little tribe here. Where are you located? Red maples are pretty common here in New England.
P.S. They are also known as “ swamp maples “😉
I love. Your vdo but my old shop teach would have a fit with long sleeves and not mention long hair. Lol you made it this far without getting hurt.
Thanks, so far so good, but not completely unscathed.😉
Do u happen to sell these
Hello Ray, Thank you for being part of our tribe. I don’t sell these because the postage would be insane.
Is that a band saw or what?
Hello Joe, nice to have you with us. Ain’t she a beauty. They don’t make em like that anymore.
Workshop safety.
😉
That bandsaw is dull. It should go through wood like knife through butter.
