In 1981, I was a young Spec 4 standing a 143 Sg Bn. payday formation in my greens when first heard MSG Benevidez' MoH citation. Toward the end, All I wanted to know was, did he live.
Live he did.

MSG Benavidez. This is what the us armed forces is about. He always put america and his fellow soldiers in front of himself. I've spent hours watching the same videos. I will never measure up to his accomplishments.

Appreciate hearing MSG Benavidez voice recorded for this video. He said everything when he made eye contact. Everything, in about one second. I didn't even know all these war stories till recently.
A grown man in his 70s now, yet I keep getting tears when I see his look at someone who only respects the dedication, brotherhood, loyalty, and honor of the Green Beret.

Sgt Leroy Wright came outta the helicopter to untangle the ropes, that were smoking from rubbing each other. This is how the Green Berets were! No politicking, no deliberations, just ACTION, as part of the team. Reliable, beyond any tyrade of excuses. One never really knows their Greatness of Spirit, till 'bumping elbows' w some of em, over da years.

At the beginning when he talks about needing an education etc. then learning a skill in the military and so on leads me to believe that whatever avenue he went down he would have excelled at and given his all. Just so happened he went the military route and saved a bunch of boys lives. And also ended up inspiring generations of war boys to come.
