love your channel...been watching since I got my 6.5! I literally just replaced my pmd on my '94...I ended up tapping the heatsink and put in dual cooling fans from a pc gaming video card on top of it. I used a ticon T-tap to tap into the lift relay kit positive--and grounded to manifold. The fans only draw 400mv--and now come on whenever engine/liftpump is on to provide additional cooling/airflow. Amazingly--according to my infrared temp gun--the pmd case is a full 35-40 degrees cooler than without the fans... I used to build and repair guitar amps in school--and these two power transistors on the pmd actually dissipate 500w according to the spec sheet from Mouser. Need lots of airflow to fully dissipate the heat.
Those doorman PMDs suck balls. Had 4 out of 5 at an autozone refuse to start my truck. The 5th one worked and got me home. Lifetime warranty isn’t always worth it
@@blackincawston great for sled pulling or racing. In work truck applications you have to work around a second water pump. Additional coolant. I’d prefer to just have the mechanical system of an air to air cooler. Less moving parts.
wait wasnt there and intercooler?!? i was wondering what sall converter you're using at the drags, do you run the same converter as you do at competitions?
Was. The S300 takes up a lot of space and I couldn’t make the piping work. So it’s been removed for now. Stock stall. Stock BD diesel replacement converter. Stock 4L80e.
They are really susceptible to increase in resistance of wiring valves from things like poor connections, poor quality wires and excessive length extension harness
My 6.5 diesel suddenly started to run quiet and push out blue smoke as it's burning oil. I was wondering if you'd know what that issue would be? I was driving it, went to park it, let it idle for a few minutes and then shut it off. Next morning went to go fire it up and it sounds like a gasoline engine, was thinking it's an injector not firing properly but the engine is running so smoothly that I cant tell what it is. I drove it around like that for about 30 minutes, went to my local fuel station, threw some diesel in and still sounded the same. It doesn't sputter and its not acting like its missing either. Just replaced my PMD about 3 months ago and changed the oil and oil filter, put a cold air intake on it and that's it. There's only 132k miles on it and I just don't understand why it would be acting the way it is.
If it’s puffing blew smoke you are on low fuel pressure. Most likely the OPS failed and the lift pump isn’t kicking on. That makes them run quiet but they’ll be down on power and haze from the exhaust.
Having this problem with my 94 6.5 . It starts great and runs perfect, then if I turn it off and restart it will run and drive good for about a minute then shut off. I can restart it but soon as I put it in gear it dies. After it cools off completely I can go again. Could it be a bad pmd?
That sounds more like the injection pump dying. You would need to get a fuel pressure test from the lift pump and get the codes via the paper clip trick.
just a thought...if you are able to slap a baggie with ice cubes on top of the heatsink for a few minutes and run again--probably pmd---a cheap and easy way to test...
Any chance someone could help with a photo that shows how the pmd is hard wire. Purchase a truck that is wire incorrectly and on line wire does not help
Thank you for time in making the videos and the information you provide to help people out . Very much appreciated.

I agree. I’ve tried almost every brand and had issues with them all. So I’m not shocked by that at all. Even the high dollar ones have issues.
Another great video boss.... Always learn a lot from you. Did you remove your intercooler?
It’s removed for now. The S300 takes up a lot of room and I couldn’t get intercooler piping to fit. I’ll solve that someday soon
@@gingersnapcustoms makes sense. Do you think you might put a water to air instead? That might be a better option for room?
@@blackincawston I’m not a big fan of water to air. So my plan is a full Dmax cooling stack when I have time.

Thank you for the video. I wish you lived near me I would take my truck to you.
I don’t work on other peoples vehicles anymore. That’s why I created the videos to help people gain the confidence to DIY

Low quality pins. Water in the connectors. Wiring being chaffed and damaged from rubbing on other components. The list is long.

Would simply wrapping the plug in high heat harness tape work? About to buy a 98 6.5 suburban that hasn't had the pmd relocated
It’s not the plug that’s the issue. It’s the actual resistors inside the PMD that have problems. So it’s best to relocate it if you can.
Will do! I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge, thanks!
Which PMD is preferable? The Standyne or the black box?
One that works. I prefer flight systems personally but any with a good warranty work.
Would not having a resistor in the new pmd continue to cause a no start or should I be looking somewhere else for my problem
It will cause no starts. Stalling and other issues.

I am the king of pmd problems 😅
My issue is that I can’t find the plug on the harness for my pmd
Under the intake? Or?
