    THE SCIENCE
Semaglutide (commonly referred to by its brand names Ozempic and Wegovy) is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It’s a GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning it helps to stimulate the pancreas to release insulin and inhibits the release of too much glucose into the bloodstream. It also promotes fullness by slowing the emptying of your stomach, subsequently reducing hunger.
Although it’s been around for a long time, it recently hit the headlines because of its rumoured use by a number of high-profile celebrities for quick and dramatic weight loss.

Ozempic has "saved" my life. I was 332 and currently hanging around 268 (19.2% weight loss so far), but with the drive to get back to my thinnest weight of 235 (where my family thought I was too thin). Right now, it doesn't look like I am heavy, but I know if I was 235, I could lose 30 more pounds. I had dark gray, fuzzy patches on the skin on my feet and dry skin all over my body. They're gone, and my skin feels like a baby's bottom. I had eye swelling issues, but they are gone. I had sleeping issues. Gone. I had severe energy issues. Gone. I had gout. Gone. I had knee and hip arthritic pain. Gone. I stopped taking all of the medications. My waist is the smallest it's ever been. I would love to get off of Ozempic too. But I am scared about weight rebounding. What ticks me off, I will always be clinically obese with BMI assessments. Then again, Steve Austin was clinically obese, too, based on that ridiculousness.

I have used every diet pill since I was 12 thanks to my mother's friend being a doctor and my mother thinking that a kid that was chubby was too fat. So as I grew into a teen I really dealt with the whole fat kid syndrome from bullies and family members most of my life. So I got sick around the time covid happened and I got onto Keto for a year and a half along with fasting too. I lost 150 pounds, once I got off keto, I gained it all back. Now I am on Ozempic and am back to losing again. This life of obesity and no self control due to eating disorders is the hardest part of living. So I have to try despite the dangers.

I am a family doctor, there is no medication without risks. The way we assess the risks of complications is on the basis of ratio of benefits to harms. We don't just throw away a medication simply because they have side effects!! You might have Side effects after taking Ozempic! However the risk of obesity on different parts of the body is significantly more.

This was a great, comprehensive video on this subject. The rebound weight occurs even when lifestyle changes are continued. Obesity is not about food. It is about the way some people's bodies process food, which is complex and involves lots of hormones and pathways. These pathways are malfunctioning in obese people. This is why lifestyle modifications do not work long term. Gastric sleeve and weight loss surgery also only offers half of its recipients a long term weight loss solution. 50% will regain all weight plus. The body has a set point and once that is altered, it is nearly impossible to change it. This is why pharmaceutical interventions that correct those pathways are encouraging.

Worth it to even lose that much for her because she can move way more now. But have seen plenty of people on it in the media who stopped, particularly women, who gained all of it back plus some. Scary if you didnt cbange the habits. I didn’t know celebrities they were taking Ozempic until I seen this video. Now it makes sense on why people are saying there is a shortage. I’ve been taking this as well for 8 months, I can tell you that the shot doesn’t just work by itself. You honestly have to do the work behind the scenes. I have noticed when I stick to my meal plan I see the most results, my approach to this was not to look at this as a diet. I went from 194 to current weight 153. I am a size 6 now. I didn’t know I even had a insulin resistance or any thyroid issues until I got blood work. You’re right the ‘yo-yo’ is a real thing, but my approach this time was to learn how to eat differently and to gain as much muscle as possible so the fat has a harder time coming back. Every meal I either drink or eat my protein. This ‘drug’ has helped me immensely, I can’t say enough about it. I had a BMI of 34 when I started, current BMI is 22 🎉. I pay for this product every 12 weeks. I increased my amount gradually, the first 2 months were the hardest. So if you’re reading this, and you’re experiencing sickness, stick with it. Completely normal! I’m so grateful for this product, I have never been this size or weight. I’m scared of the rebound, I am tired of yo-yo dieting and I’m hoping for the best here.

    • @Lmt0224

@@bcamarillo5279 I eat breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner! Right now I’m consuming 1700-2000 calories a day. Breakfast I usually eat oatmeal with 2 scoops of protein in it, snack apples with peanut butter, lunch chicken, rice, veggies, dinner the same as lunch. It really depends on what I meal prepped on Sunday. I workout every other day, on the days I workout, I have an additional protein shake for recovery. I weight train 4 days of the week, I lift heavy and do 30/40 minutes of cardio afterwards.
I do three proteins: Ground chicken, chicken breast, hamburger. For carbs I do jasmine rice, noodles, or sweet potato patties. Veggies, I steam broccoli or make green beans. I used to be a vegetarian, so I’ve only eaten meat again for about 2 years. Some things still hurt my stomach, and I can’t seem to have a taste for it. Which is probably why my blood work was so deficient. If I want cookies or chips or something I know I shouldn’t be eating, I don’t restrict myself. I do it within moderation. I hope this helps, I tried to fit it all in.

Someone needs to do a deep dive on what happens when hormones you once had you no longer have much of. We can give a guy a three hour erection and grow his hair back but women, meh, trade them in for a younger model, or cut pieces off, add plastic pieces.

A new lease on life suddenly has a tight leash of death--both with or without the drugs!
That said, I think the most important thing a person must do if they're in the clinical category is to develop a comprehensive way of discipline for both anxiety and resisting the hormone driven urge to eat for when we eventually go off of Ozempic.

A large mass was found 5x3x5 inches easier to imagine than cm. In addition, a cyst was seen on my pancreas. I am a Type II diabetic.

I was first placed on Trulicity for about two years and two months ago this was switched to Ozempic. I was on insulin, basaglar 50 units daily and have been able to decrease that to 18 units. I have lost 30 pounds slowly. My sleep apnea, blood pressure, blood sugars have improved substantially. I did Weight Watchers for many years and was successful until my mid forties. I had gestational diabetes at age 43 and held off diabetes after delivery until my son was 11 years old. My main risk factor for diabetes and obesity is severe arthritis which limits my mobility and I have used a motorized scooter since age 29. But I do have an exercise habit with vigorous water aerobics three times a week. For me, Trulicity or Ozempic have changed my life course. I now believe I will live long enough to know my grandchildren. I hope to lose more weight, maybe 30 more pounds and get off insulin and keep an accurate food diary under a bariatric physician's supervision. Constipation, is a problem with Ozempic, but I have found there's a easy fix for me. I started taking Meta Mucil capsules, 2 capsules a day, it really has helped to get past the constipation.
Metamucil capsules are also easier than the powder which I personally found to be too much, now the bottle says to take 5 capsules and maybe if you don't mind being on the toliet often, well 2 is enough, also Metamucil does help you with diabetes or at least that is the claim they speak about.
As I was saying below about taking Ozempic, which I am at 1mg try breaking it up with 4 injections a week 0.25 each time, yes the pen doesn't show that setting, but you can count the clicks on the pen and divide by 4

Started Ozempic May of 2022. Took about a year of jumping through hoops to get the insurance to cover it. I have lost 30 lbs, A1C went from 8.1 to 6 exactly. Decrease in blood pressure meds have also occurred. BG numbers were in the 200s and even 300s before Ozempic. Now run in the lower 100s and even under 100 on occasion. Worst side effect for me is some constipation. I also experienced some mild back pain for a time. Gastroparesis has GREATLY improved since my appetite isn't so big. I'm a compulsive overeater. Pre diabetic for many years before being diagnosed T2D. Just upped my dose to 2 mgs a couple weeks ago. Don't even feel the injections. Overall, its been a miracle worker for me. Me and my two sisters have been on the weight loss journey together with our doctor. We do a Govee for six months, then have moved to Mounjaro. Me and my middle sister were pre-diabetic and my baby sister has a heart problem so she needed to lose weight.
We were 250,240,230- now maintaining 130,140,150.
We do have our doctors we are on maintenance that we still see routinely nutritionist and you can also see therapist. Our doctor says you can have this as a long-term use. However, it’s going to be up to us on how often we take as we are on maintenance.
I say the biggest thing is a lifestyle changes we all work out on different levels as my baby sister can’t do as much as we can but she still gets her walk in. Food habits have definitely changed and believe it or not. If you do something for a while it starts to come natural. For example, what you eat how much you eat. You can still enjoy yourself have drinks and eat food you like you just have to accountability and be more conscious.
For example Thanksgiving I had a piece of sweet potato pie versus other years. I want to eat 3/4 of the pie.
Or when you’re going to gatherings, I would like to taste a lot of the different foods. I just get a lot smaller portions so if I want to go back, I can get another small plate of small portions and enjoy.
For us, we did not have any side effects no nauseous ,etc. as of cost, two of us use the coupon so we only pay $25 a month. My other sister insurance covered for her.
We also follow Facebook groups and hear stories of others, but I think the biggest thing is being blessed to hold each other accountable.

My stepfather talked about putting me on something like that many years ago to lose weight. One of his diabetes drugs. I'm so used to those types of attempts on me throughout my life, I ignore them. It's almost like my body decides for itself when I'm supposed to lose weight or gain it. I'm not obsessed about being very thin, but I'd be happy with thirty pounds less. Fifty pounds I would look that way, no matter what the scale says. That's because my young legal adult weight, was a hundred and fifty pounds, at 5'10" 1/2. I even grew the last inch in college, and didn't understand why all my pants lengths had shrunk, until I figured out that I had grown taller. That's uncommon for girls. A full inch, but I was seventeen years old. My youngest daughter had a super rapid growth rate as a baby and child, off the chart for girls, and it was worrying me that she was going to be too tall, but it was naturally pituitary stopped by itself, when she was eleven years old. Then she finished growing into a good tall enough height of 5'8".

I don’t just want a bandaid, I want it to be fixed permanently which I k ow ultimately falls on me. It’s a mind set for me plus I’m almost certain there’s going to be more side effects that probably come out over the years as this continues. I keep thinking about what if it pushes someone into diabetes or even causes pancreatic cancer? I think if I did it, I would only do for maybe 6 months at the most. I hope this comment is somewhat helpful for you. I'm a physician myself and obese with a BMI and the high 30s maybe even low 40s at this point. Historically have been able to get on exercise routines for several months and really cut weight with aggressive dieting, daily exercise at the gym. At one point lost almost 60 lb but then gained it all back and ballooned another 70 lb to the mid 300s. Excellent genetics fortunately so perfect cholesterol, A1C, blood pressure. Nonetheless very uncomfortable, musculoskeletal pains, a couple back pain flares. Now with family and kids just no time at all for exercise, working nights, just a bad combination for health. Started on semaglitide about a month ago. I now realize there was no way I was going to do this without medication. It is definitely amazing. I'm not tanking my weight In fact my weight merely stabilized and maybe lost one or two pounds in the first month of very low dose. I'm increasing the dose but I'm noticing at 0.5 mg weekly that it is quite obvious that cravings to eat are completely eliminated and it is very easy to skip meals completely, eat smaller portions, I get full eating about a third of what I would eat normally. It completely changes your relationship with food. I hardly snack at all whereas before I would be ravenously snacking while preparing the meal for whatever time of day. Otherwise the drive was pretty much as strong as sex, maybe more so. It's real easy to be disciplined if your biology has you programmed like an obese person on semaglitide. It's really eye-opening. This must be what it's like to have a normal appetite. It's pretty wild.
I guess what I'm saying is I don't think mindset is the issue. Your brain is issuing you overwhelming signals that you need to eat and you are starving even though you are obese. This medication fixes that and then you have the opportunity now to impose some discipline. Before that it's like a heroin addict for food. You would steal from your grandma to get a chicken sandwich lol. As far as potential risks. Certainly if they do emerge in post-marketing the risks will be low even if not zero. On the other hand the risks of continuing to be obese are quite including increased risk of cancers of all different types not to mention obviously progression into diabetes and complications thereof, coronary disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease, orthopedic disease such as arthritis. I think it is unlikely that there's any massive increase in cancer that would eclipse the benefit of losing all the weight which carries a reduction in cancer risk.
Finally, I don't see any problem philosophically and being on a medicine for life if it works. As human beings we can use our brilliance and effort to change our condition and mold nature into what we need it to be. Obviously this process isn't perfect but there are innumerable incredible breakthroughs that have changed the human condition for the better medical and otherwise. What's wrong with being on a medication for a long time or even life if it revolutionizes your life, helps you to live a healthier life potentially? Is it fundamentally different than a type 1 diabetic needing insulin for the rest of their life? In some ways perhaps but the point is the same. We can have better lives through chemistry and why shouldn't we? I do think if you go off the medicine likely you would just pile the weight back on but I don't think that's a consequence of the drug it's just that you would rebound back to your previous neuro and endocrine chemistry. Just some thoughts.

I was just at my doctors office talking about this. She told me that most insurance will NOT cover these drugs for weight loss, it's considered off label use as of now. If you can get it to cover it there are hoops to jump through, you have to have tried and failed at conventional treatment, the trouble is proving it. You must have a body mass index over 30, and most times be at least pre-diabetic or have some other health issue that would justify the use of the drug. You will also need a complete physical with your doctor that includes blood work, and and EKG. The other thing she mentioned was that this "short supply" issue is an Internet rumor that has spread, the drug companies have not issued any short supply notices and reps do not confirm it is in short supply. It is sadly being abused as a vanity drug at the moment and can cause harm to a persons body when you don't need this drug. People who have a lot of money can afford 1200 a month for this drug and if you have enough money you can find a doctor who will give it to you sadly.

Interesting. While I am no longer in an overweight category, 6'3" 185 lbs., at one time about 15 years ago I was pushing 300. Lost slowly over about 10 years. My body, with two arthritic ankles and a bum knee told me to lost it and even at 70+ just too active to be crippled. But a good friend from back in college has had a big problem most of his life. He was recently put on this to lose weight. So far his only problem is that he has to force himself to eat dinner. I told him the solution is simple, if you are not hungry, don't eat. I hope he takes my advice.

But now I know I need to get healthy again, except when I start back on insulin I immediately gain weight. I started again at the end of January and have already gained 18 pounds. My clothes aren’t fitting and I feel awful with the extra weight. I am really struggling!

Well, I in week one of using ozempic. I have had PCOS for years and I have been overweight and it just gets worse over the years. I've gone to gyms and tried weight loss programs. Everything I've tried either works for about the first 20lbs and stops. Even going to the gym doesn't help. So yes I am will to try Ozempic, since Lately my liver has been labeled as Fatty and my Ac1 has been borderline diabetes.
So I started a high protein/ low to no carb diet (yet again because it didn't work last time) this time with Ozempic I lost 8lbs. So I'm already have my mind on how long will this work for me....

  • @debbieschultz106
    @debbieschultz106 9 місяців тому +2

Ok.. I'm in my 60s. I've been gaining weight steadily for the last 15 years. I had no energy. Ankles were so swollen my husband and my older children became concerned. I had a fatty liver, insulin resistant, just crossed over to a type 2 diabetic, A1C was going up. I've tried low carb, at least 50 times I've exercised, but it's hard to exercise when you're heavy. 230 pounds was my starting weight. I've been on Ozempic for 19 months only on 1mg because it's all I can tolerate. It took a long time to get up to 1mg. I have nausea and constipation, but I control that with Zofran and miralax. Ozempic hates sugar, especially 1st thing in the morning. You'll learn quickly what you can and can not eat. Ozempic hates alcohol, greasy foods, and over eating. You will throw up. People think this is a quick fix, taking the easy way out, but it's not. Genetics plays a big part in our bodies, and diabetes and heart attacks are prominent on both sides of my family. I don't know if down the road Ozempic will kill me, but I do know obesity and heart disease will. How do you know down the road Ozempic will cure cancer? We haven't found anything yet. My niece is getting a semaglutide from a compound pharmacy that's 100 dollars a month, and her own doctor uses it. There are ways to afford this drug. What I'm saying is watch TV, and any advertisement on a drug will have a shit load of side effects they talk about. You wouldn't even want to try anything. This is the same thing, people.

I gained and lost 2lbs for the entire time, my side effects also lessened to where i had only fatigue and irritability. But then it started to mess with my other health conditions so I had to stop and continue on with only Metformin. I’ll find out next month is my A1C is back up or not.

I was successful in losing 20 pounds. The heart surgery took place. I am still on Olympic. I will keep working on lifestyle and eating less and more healthy. I've been plant-based for about 6 years now. The only fat I eat is the one in my store-made hummus. I am about 50-70 pounds lighter, but am still considered obese. As I am differently abled for walking, I pedal for one hour every morning. I don't smoke or drink alcohol, and my coffee is decaf. In Oct 2017, my A1c was 5,2%, non diabetic. In 2018, a doctor took away the anticoags I was on, which led me to develop a DVT (double, in fact). Since then, my FBG has been either elevated, or very elevated, no matter what I do. My MD put me on Ozempic in Fall 2021. I took the first shot, then remebered I needed to weigh myself. I didn't feel dizzy, just "not there". I went to the bathroon, took the scales out and got myself on. My left foot, which is lame, slid off the scale and I landed butt first on the edge of the toilet seat. I couldn't sit for over a month, which totally decompensated me. I lost 4kg the first week, but then, on 800cal/day, I gained 1 kg a week, for 6 weeks. Then, I finally had a phone meeting with my MD who only then explained this Rx was for weight loss. I DON'T recomend taking this medicine unless you are facing bariatric surgery. It truly is a last hope med, and with the possible side effects, not really worth it.
Thank you for this excellent video. Most of it, I should have heard from my MD, but alas, did not until it was too late.

I was diagnosed with insulin resistance. I was not diabetic. However, my endocrinologist recommended taking Ozempic. I was only on it for four months. The entire time I felt nauseous and unwell. I reported this to the endocrinologist and was encouraged to continue taking. By that fourth month I could not tolerate it any longer, and was starting to get terrible sinus headaches. I also lost my sense of taste and smell. The endocrinologist would not help me because he said that was not a side effect of the drug. It has been over two years, and I have not received my sense of taste and smell back, my body has never been the same and it appears it is made me more sensitive to anything that will raise my blood sugar. I also suspect I may have kidney damage, but have not verified that as of yet For me this was not a good medicine and has left me with permanent damage.
I would love to receive my sense of taste and smell back and if anybody out there has had any experience with this, please let me know .

A great video with very interesting information. I suffer from Hashimoto disease which makes it triple hard to shift weight and easy as pie to pile it on. Sadly here in the UK doctors focus mainly on your tsh and just keep increasing levothyroxine 🙄 so far NDT is one of the better medications to use but again not all are effective . I'm at the stage of where do I go next 🥺 I have tried a similar product here called Saxenda (liraglutide) and on the third week experienced horrendous stomach pain .. which I'm sure was or close enough to pancreatitis 😮😮.. it was extremely extremely painful . I stopped the drug for a few days and also reduced the dose and did not experience the pain again, however I fear this could happen again with Ozempic. I am thinking of trying the tablet form as I can control the dose daily but wonder will it have the same effect 🤷🏼‍♀️

I find it very interesting a fitness enthusiast and entrepreneur is vastly over stating "dangers" of a medication he doesn't understand. There are potential side effects from every medication. That's why you need to speak with a physician who understands the risks of the medication involved. If you're seeing a reputable doctor they will absolutely discuss all the common issues with said medications. Think long and hard about disparaging what you don't understand and feel may become threatening to your income. Peace.
