OMG it's almost worth paying a mechanic $200 to go through all this for a $14 part! But then I read some of your comments and realized a lot of this work was to get to the valve cover gaskets so I'm game. Just wish I still had my Impala V8. That car had acres of room around the engine to work with.

Definitely not a bad job at all and if possible plan to do and replace other things on the way, this would be a great time for tune up! All 6 Spark plugs!
And at least the back three coil packs
      Clean throttle body
heater hoses and any other hoses that look to be failing!
Then by the time all this has been looked over and replaced ,
hey there is the pcv valve ready to be replaced! Thanks for watching! Cheers

A tip, it's a good time to change the gaskets, change the spark plugs and clean the throttle body while you are in there so you don't have to do all this again.

Exactly. Usually when you get a Pcv/hose code you'll get a engine bank lean and intake gasket code and for an extra 50 bucks you can do all this in 1 shot. Definitely worth it.

You DON'T have to take ANYTHING apart. Use a 12 point 7/8"(23mm) socket on a 12" extension. Carefully fish it in from the wheel well cover area, and it will line up perfectly. 1/2-1 turn after attaching your socket wrench, and it's out. The whole process took me less than 10 minutes. BTW use a 3/8" extension and socket, slides in no problem!

If you are in front the drive end of extension is at about 2 o clock at about 5 standing on drivers fender.
R&R PXV hose, try to find a silicone replacement to use.
Push wiring harness harness aside engage the socket turn counter clock wise bout a 1/4 turn

the 01 thru i think 04 i don't know for sure but those early years they are in the very middle, on the top of the block. you will have to remove the entire upper intake(plastic) you don't have to remove the lowers but you'll need to buy a large socket to get it out otherwise you also have to remove the fuel rails....and investors wonder why ford stock plummets a 3-5 hour pcv change out.

  • @brianhind6149
    @brianhind6149 4 роки тому +1

It is possible to change the PCV valve using a pair of very long nose pliers. Who the Hell would use a socket on a plastic part.?
I am told the correct size socket is 23mm, but I certainly wouldn't use one. The Ford Escape(mine is a 2003) 3 liter is a pain in the ass do do many things. Burying the alternator under the engine & near the exhaust so that it is exposed to heat, having to remove the passenger side wheel & then a fender well panel , a dust shield, the right half shaft, & then the alternator from the bracket & then the bracket from the block, & in some years a cooling housing, & then twist & turn the alternator to fish it out of the hole where the half shaft goes is inexcusable. The video left gaps in procedures that presumed the viewers were knowledgeable enough that showing these were unnecessary. The voice instructions were mumbled & difficult to hear. Folks reasonably adept at working on vehicles would benefit from this video, but those who need ordered step by step instructions were excluded. More is the pity.

Brian Hind thanks for your perception on things, I believe you are correct about, that engineers could have designed it better! The fact that you request step by step in order procedural movements is by far what you are actually going to get ! This video is to help the guy who is one up on others and can start and finish the job, I have done both types of videos and they do both clearly have there benefits, this videos purpose was to cover the most important parts, quickly and accurately as possible, the reason I did this is the simple fact that if you cannot put this video and a book together and get the job done, save your money and get repairs done by a professional! You do not belong under the hood of a vehicle, thanks for watching. cheers!

@@ATEMOFFROAD Thanks for your rapid reply. I don't require step by step instructions, since I have held a mechanics license for close to 60 years, but many other folk do, & it was for them that I made the comments. I was unaware that you make videos that address these DYI ers , & i withdraw my previous comments in light of that information. I watch many videos of this type & I am impressed by the excellence of many of them.
None of us are so clever that we can't learn something by reading or watching the ideas of others, & I have come across many clever ideas to make a repair faster, or simpler. This video of yours is certainly a great help to those who are "one up on others" as you adroitly phrased it. I apologize for assuming the video was a primer for the uninitiated.
