Great instructional video. London Road RSU purchase and arrived Weds. Used for Lamp irons and name brackets already, which were a doddle for my shaky hands. Now experimenting with various settings.
Super! Amazed at the resistance soldering - never even heard of that, but what an incredible finish can be achieved with the necessary skill and experience. Really great vid. Thank you!
Rob, great video thanks. Have used an RSU and now have an idea how to avoid spot welding effect by running the probe down a length to be soldered. Dave
Good instruction video although there’s a big difference between soldering demo strips of brass and accurately placing panels when building a coach model. One thing I missed: if you build a largely white metal kit like DJH’s you have soldere white metal to white metal. How do you go about that with the RSU?
Many thanks Rob. My RSU has too comfortable in the closet for way too long. I did try to find the fiberglass stick on the internet without success. Can you provide a larger description or a vendor? Yes I was intimidated and your demonstration was very helpful.
Great video Couple of question The whitemetal solder soldered to brass without tinning the brass first. Is this a different solder than Carrs 70 Also the fibre glass stick, where do you buy them. First
Hi Steven The white metal solder is from Duncan models (Andy Duncan) however I have always found that you can solder straight onto brass with all the white metal solders I’ve tried. Fibreglass sticks are from Squires Tools If google Squires Tools should take you to their website
Superb Rob - thank you!
I’m now sold on a RSU Rob. Great video.
Very nice video. A thousand soldering secrets revealed in one short film. Thanks very much.

Have fun!
Very helpful for a total novice. Many thanks Rob
Very nice demo, thank you. Its was great to see the RSU in action. Of course I now need one, but I knew that already!
Thanks!

Lovely and simply explained cheers

Thank you. I have identified all of my mistakes !! Mind you, now to try harder

Hi I wouldn’t use an RSU directly on white metal, I would only a small low wattage iron around 15watts I assume we are taking about 4mm

Very useful video, is the Weller 45 watt iron a soldering station?
Yes. I may be a bit underpowered for the heavier 7mm scale tasks. I have a 75W unit, for example.
Great video
Couple of question

Where can I buy the large cleaning stick that you use
Try Squires or Eileen's Emporium
