I admire anyone running a record store. Crazy how much these are costing you. I don’t blame you for trying to make money. Any business owner wants to keep their customers happy while trying to make a profit. You’re doing great work. Love that you got the Bathory album btw.
Thank you! I feel like being transparent is the best way to keep folks informed and satisfied as customers. The Bathory album has gotten a lot of love, I don't know much about them, if I'm honest
@@thehabitat1605 I think it's both venom helped create a base for black metal and bathory further built that sound and perfected it a bit more but I also would probably get slaughtered for saying that. Bathory definitely sounds more like other black metal bands than venom but i think both were influential on the majority of black metal bands.
@ they were both influential, along with slayer, hell hammer/celtic frost, sarcafago and sodom. Hell, a lot of those bands became bands because of venom, but I can’t say venom were black metal as it’s known today. They are to black metal as velvet underground is to punk: all the early bands listened to them and found inspiration from them to do something different, but didn’t copy them.
@jont1424 welcome to the crew! I'll have more like this every week! Hopefully you'll find other things on the channel that interest you as well. Happy New Year!
Keep up the good work man. As a small business owner myself I understand the expenses you have to pass along to the customer. In my experience you should shoot for a minimum of 30% profit margin. Shot for higher of course but never go below the 30%. Keep living the dream man.
I appreciate you bro, thank you. I struggle internally with profit margin. I feel guilty asking people to pay retail price on things, as I've always been of the lower income brackets... I just want to make a living and spread the music around. It's tough sometimes
Thank you! I keep my prices pretty competitive, but every now and then, it's something I'm not able to be the most affordable option out there. I love doing this, though, I am trying to serve the community of young punk rockers and record enthusiasts!
@@thepunkrockreview no one has bought a copy thus far at any price...HA. the seller is an 'LP scalper.' i'll bet the person will never lower the price and let it sit in the market forever.
Jiminey Christmas, $80 already for that variation of the Judge? I just got that in the mail last week, pre-ordered it from Rev. I mean it shouldn't be surprising, wasn't the original "Chung King..." the record holder for top price on Discogs? And also, looks like a fantastic shop and I love the "inside baseball" video here.
Thanks man, I have some more really cool shop videos coming, too! There was another variant of that apparently already at like $500!!! What in the world....
I been at it for a while, I had a comic shop before this that closed due to covid.... it's a lot of work, though. Not much money in it, but I love the community and being able to be myself. Pros and cons like anything else.
As a record collector and Musician whose band is about to release their first album this was totally relavent and awesome to know, so thanks bro ( or Chur Bro as us kiwis say )
I'm a CD guy, I wish labels would bring back parity between the formats. I go into some independent shops and on some label websites, and I can't even get a CD of a new release, either because they didn't do one at all or was a very small pressing. In some ways CD popularity is resurging, while others are still writing them off entirely. I know there's not a ton of money in selling them, but I hope to see them regain some relevance.
@warmsignal i sell tons of CDs, but making them for a new record is a gargantuan waste of money. I collect CDs myself, and it's hard to find them sometimes, but I like all formats, so I'll find what I want regardless. I do like CDs tho, a lot.
Out of interest does Houston have a big thrash scene etc since power trip are from there? Not sure if its still the same but the metal scene in Houston a few years ago seemed to be the punk/hardcore fuelled metal genres like grindcore (when insect warfare got big). Also I noticed that a lot of the press in the uk at least are commenting about how Texas is being the new Florida due to there being a lot of death metal bands from there. An interesting guy if you could get hold of him would be Rich Balling when he lived in LA etc he was in the rx bandits (trombone/keyboard player), later did the experimental band the sound of animals fighting and also has the black metal bands pyramids, I say it would be interesting because he's obviously from the punk scene, also now based in Dallas.
I don't cover metal on this channel, and Power Trip is out of Dallas. Not sure about the metal scene in Houston, but I'd imagine it's bigger than the punk rock scene.
Metal wise black metal is getting popular again. So many genres are getting blackened so that would be a good thing to stock. Even younger punks seem to dig black metal. Deathcore is also doing well right now. But just know no matter what ya have in stock metalheads are gonna complain. just saw the bathory record awesome

@ first proto black metal band, if you don’t count Venom, which I don’t. I could probably get slaughtered for saying that.
