    Wow just seeing this out of the box ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

    2:03 -- Crazy pumping motion right there! Crazy, but necessary, though...On a side note, it was hard even for Josh to get an Amberjack. So, don't feel down that you didn't catch one, bro. Lol.

      Amberjack pull harder than you would believe when hooked in deep water like this. Its unbelievable. There's a reason why we call them reef donkey's. Have to be the most stubborn fish species in the ocean.

    LOL, as a saltwater fisherman, I can feel your pain. You did have the right gear though. I'm not sure if you noticed but the reel and rod that you used on the last fish and that Blacktiph used was probably the largest and heaviest gear. Those smaller spinning reels are really tough to wind in and I don't like using them on yellowtail or tuna. I must admit I do use a rod butt holder when I go tuna fishing. I have put the rod to my groin before fighting a yellowtail and it's not that fun. I also think you didn't lose the fish because you stopped winding, there's a chance that the fish was able to spit the bait out -- that was a pretty large bait fish you had there. The other possibility is that you didn't keep the line tight and it was able to dislodge itself as well. Still, that's fishing. You win some, you lose some.

    • @1Rod1ReelFishing
      @1Rod1ReelFishing  8 років тому

      yeah dude, that rod/reel we used was crazy hard to handle, it was so heavy that i had trouble just winding it :P But even though I didn't land any, it was still an awesome experience!

    • @Briguy1027
      @Briguy1027 8 років тому

      LOL you had problems winding it because the fish on the other end was fighting you! It takes a little time to get the motion down, wind down, lift up, etc. And then making sure the drag is set where you don't get worked over is another thing as well. The sharks made it sort of hard to fight the fish correctly -- normally you let the fish tire itself out by taking drag, instead of buttoning down the drag and trying to horse it in.

    LMAO! Great video, Mike! I laughed so hard. CONGRATS on your honesty in keeping this in the video and not editing it out! Before I became a bass fisherman ( I fished all the time at Black Hills Regional Park), I lived in Santa Monica, CA and fished on the backside of Catalina Island, Coronado Islands, San Clemente Island, and down in Mexican ocean waters for 25 years. Still have my salt water rods and reels. My son grew up fishing with me. He caught his first 33 lb. yellow tail at 8 years old, it almost pulled over the boat's stern! GREAT VIDEO! Thanks. It took me back to Sept. 2012 when my wife and I moved back to Maryland (after 37 years in Santa Monica), and I remember laughing out loud when I watched the bass tournament FLW on cable. LMAO when I saw guys jumping around on the boat after they caught 5-6 lb largemouth. BUT WHAT I LEARNED is that deep sea fishing is about testosterone muscle and bragging rights; HOWEVER, I think that bass fishing takes much more skill and study to get good at it. This video may be a great HOOT, but you still an outstanding fisherman. Great Video!

    Why do you have to reel so hard when the fish is running? Seems like you should let it run with drag instead of reeling so hard when they are at full speed. Seems like you would land more that way.

    Not coming to criticize or anything, but why not let the fish run and tire it out instead or horsing them in and losing them? I'm about as landlocked as you can get, no knowledge or experience with saltwater fishing.

    • @1Rod1ReelFishing
      @1Rod1ReelFishing  8 років тому +12

      no problem, great question, if I was out there myself I would let the fish run and tire out but the dudes I was fishing with are experts and they were explaining that since we were fishing directly above a massive shipwreck, as soon as we hooked up we had to horse the fish out as quickly as possible or else the fish would dive into the wreck and snap us off
