What gets me is just how HUGE this pump was when I took it out of my 2006 F150 5.4 and it was eating big current at right around 13 amps! Seems like alot but its good pressure and volume... not the problem.Like your video here. Thanks
I got nervous when I saw the pump start to lean. First thing came to my mind was water and electricity doesn't mix. You are an excellent instructor. Even though my '05 f150 runs like a bucking bronco. I'm gonna try to tackle the tune up myself. Thanks for the videos
I have a 2018 f150 that I think my fuel pump has went out. I pull the truck in my shop and and the truck started sputtering and shut off now it’s cranks but want start. I can’t here the put prime in the tank. What your thoughts??
I really would have liked you to take the pump a part to see what was causing the pressure relief valve to stick, I bet it was a piece of plastic or something that came loose after being manufactured since it took about a year to malfunction. Also, since it partially works should be an easy fix. If you still have it, go a head and take it a part it's just a few screws. Curious minds want to know.
Awesome videos man! I have a 2018 F150 Raptor with a stalling issue when the engine is warm. This will only happen when the vehicle has reached normal temperature, no issues while driving, no loss of power, no check engine lights. The issue comes in when attempting to start the vehicle after has been used for a couple of miles. Been to three different FORD service departments still having the same issue. Not much information on forums for this exact issue. I would really love to pick up your mind on this scenario. Been dealing with this issue for about 6 months now with no check engine lights. Putting my thoughts together I do remember this issue started after running low on fuel for a couple of miles before getting into the gas station. Also if a park on my driveway nose down it would start with a rough idle but will NOT die. When parking on a level surface or nose up it will die immediately and sometimes it'll give me a long cranking. All this is only when the engine has reached normal temperature. In the mornings when the vehicle has sat the whole night, it will fire up perfectly no matter the angle or position of the truck.
@@user-ky7ty3ie1x I replaced the fuel pump. Worked great after that. I also cleaned the internal circuitry of the throttle body. I checked for carbon build up on the valves, there was none. So fuel pump or the throttle body circuitry cleaning did the trick.
This is great information on how these pumps function. Unfortunately, it's all academic. They really need to stop putting the entire fuel pump in the tanks, or at least give us easy access.
After the dealer did the SAFETY PROGRAM 16S41 recall then my '12 Escape has the exact long crank hard start that they describe in the actual recall. But that dealer is 2 hours away and the local dealer says they won't fix the other dealers problem even though it is a recall. They think it is from nicked barbs on the hose connection. Do you think I can fix it with some fuel resistant RTV? Thanks
Oh did I say the set of fuel pipes Ford sells together only is 299.00 retail 234.00 jobber price. The location of the cracked line is approximately under the drivers seat on the escape. Also recently through drivers side cooling fans blades started cracking from age and losing prices of the blades.
I currently have a 2023 ford maverick (EB 2.0), and I notice the HPFP is getting louder compare to when I first got it, and I noticed some strong gasoline smell from the engine oil cap. The dealer said everything is normal and within the "normal" range :(. I was thinking about to change the HPFP to the Bosch one, and would you recommend to do so? Also, without removing the engine, is it still possible to crank the engine to the "flat" spot when installing the new HPFP? Thank you
Another excellent video!! I have a 04 f350 dually with a 5.4 that has been sitting for about 5 years. I tried starting it and no go. It will start with starter fluid, so I'm pretty sure its a fuel supply problem. Ran fine when I parked it. Also, California fuel. Any checklist to start trouble shooting?
If only I knew all this earlier.... I have replaced 3 fuel pumps in my Mondeo MK4 during a 10 year use ....At least one of these times maybe a fill up of the tank would do the trick
Thank you for the info. Always enjoy your videos. Early this year you did one on your 2009 Escape temperature blend door motor. You said you need to replace it. Do you know when you might make a video about doing that?
This a Toyota related question.. so you can answer if you want ☺️ but the pump is almost the same setup. I have been doing my own testing on a hard start issue and when checking the pump I realized I didn't fasten it down properly and fuel was spraying out at the top where it wasn't fastened right. My question is, is that right? If the pumping (sucking/ pumping) happens at the bottom why would file spray out at the top? Could it be a break in the line? Actually I would really appreciate it if you would answer me.

Hi I changed my fuel pump and fuel pump driver module works good two years ago on my 2005 ford expedition but anytime I run my fuel tank down to quarter tank remaining it messes up the fuel pump again I replace the fuel pump works good again but only when I run my fuel tank down to quarter it messes up the pump again what causes that

Just installed a fuel pump on my sons 2002 Taurus... looks the same as that one. Easy install. Bought the pump on the net for $56..... I hope I didn’t make a big mistake by installing a cheap one. It looked the same as the one I removed .... The one at the auto parts was $286. Hopefully , my savings was not in haste ???????
I'm facing the same situation. I Have not bought a new one yet. Wondering how it's performing even though this thread is closed or old right now. Sure would help me make a wise decision. I have an 1994 E-250 that needs a pump. Tempting to save that much money but is it worth it? Thanks.

I’m wondering if you would be willing to give me a few pointers, my son has a 1988 Ford F-150, it has sat for around 7 years, really bad gas and all the problems that come with it, we have done the common things such as cleaned out the gas put new in, premium even, lots of fuel system cleaners, filters and pumps, it keeps burning up the high pressure fuel pump, so we put a brand new tank in with another new in tank pump and new high pressure pump, they just keep burning out, it runs for a good while then shuts down, I’ve noticed that the high pressure pump is getting pretty hot, any suggestions? I’m at my wits end with it
This is great! Could you please tell me where the Fuel Filter is located on a Mondeo MK4 Ecoboost 2.0 (240cv)? How frequently does it need to be changed? Thanks in advance! I love this channel.
I have a fairly new car with very few miles and when i bought it, i ran it out of gas with about 40 miles showing on the trip indicator, about 1/8 tank. Tow truck came to give me a couple gallons and i was on my way. about a month later it died on my way into work. It was running like shit and finally gave up as i was making my way onto the highway ramp. It has about 1/4 tank, and it DOES have fuel to the high pressure rail, i just don't have the correct adapter to test the pressure. i wonder if i got shit pressure...... I've been chasing a no start problem all winter long, and i havent given much attention to the pump because i can confirm the pump is working, but ill bet its not working as good as it should. im going straight home to A: empty my gas can into the tank to see if that gets it to start B: figure out exactly what i need to make a custom rig for a fuel pressure reading! Thank you for the video. Luckily, i do believe i can reach my fuel sender right under the rear seat, inside the cabin of my car.
We have a few fleet f250 2017 and above 6.2 and two in particular have hard staring issues. Takes a few extra secs to fire. Took it to ford deal and they said that was normal? I don’t believe that is correct since mine doesn’t. Wondering if the check valves are bad in the fuel pumps. Have you came across this issue with the later model f series trucks?
Thanks for the info. Timely information also. I am in need of more info like this being that I have a 01 Town car that is in need of a new pump. 131k on and I am wondering what is the most reliable pump outside of or from Ford that cost 400? Thanks for any help. PS. Have you ever thought of making a Ford 4.6 channel?? Thanks again.
But how was the PCM responding to no fuel pressure at the rail? Mine is sending a 75% duty cycle to the fuel pump to have it shut off? Does that sound right?
I would like to see if you can tell me what would cause a fuel pump fuse to continuously blow. The brief description is when I put the key in the ignition with the battery being charged up by the battery charger / booster the fuse blew three times. Is there any other helpful information you might be able to share with me on what could be causing the fuel pump used to be blowing like this sir?
Now the vehicle that I'm working on is a 2005 Ford 500 with the duratec V6. I did put the battery chargers last jumper on it, it fired right up then ran 10 minutes then died as I press lightly on the pedal. It was until after the second time that I got it started that I noticed a fuel pump fuse blew. I then replaced the fuze 2 times and those fuze's blew as well.
Buddy, I have this explorer 2013, came in with abs lights n skid car light on, and they were like they had this light & an electrician scan and advised them to change the abs module, they got new abs module thrown to the car but yet we’re like the old code resurface again, and that is U3000. In the abs, I further asked them what happen or did they carried out any repair works before this symptoms appeared, and they were like this abs light wasn’t ON until they had the steering rack asst replaced and drove a couple of miles then BAAM the abs lights n skid appear, so I am push to conclude that could be their old abs isn’t bad but could be the steering rack, now here is my question, does the rack need programming, if yes, what about the new abs module too, and can you share some steps involve in coding the rack,
Hey I have a 2008 F250 6.4L powerstroke. Could you do a video on how to flush coolant fuel system & putting new coolant in that system? From what I understand if you get air in system coolant will not circulate properly & it will burn up high pressure fuel pump!
Well today I had a first time for everything moment. I went to replace a fuel pump on a 2014 Expedition but there was a problem. I was taking out the old pump, but the pump housing would not fit through the hole on the tank. It took me an hour to get the pump out of the tank. It seems the material the pump housing was made out of had swollen up to the point I had to fight the thing to finally get it out. I have never seen this before. May be faulty materials, but it is a factory Motor Craft pump. Maybe bad gas or other additives. Finally with the aid of several screwdrivers and a lot of pulling it came out. I installed a new Motor Craft pump and it fit no problem. May be someone has seen this before and knows how this could have happened. Update: I have since found other videos and comments stating the same problem. It seems the 2010 to 2014 Fuel pumps have this problem where the material the fuel pump module is made of expands over time when exposed to fuel. Which is normally not a problem as it is taken into consideration during design. However, in this case someone seems to have dropped the ball during the design of the fuel pump assembly and did not take into consideration that the body of the lower assembly over time can swell to the point it can't be removed without much effort and a lot of bad words being used. The replacement pump is a new Ford Motor Craft pump PFS-579-1X, I used a pneumatic die grinder and a burr tool to cut away the edge on one side of the lower assembly so it can't get caught on the opening of the fuel tank when removing in the future. I hope this helps to be made aware of the problem.
How do I replace the pump in my 2017 es Cape 2.5 without dropping the tank. Older ones had an inspection cover to remove under the passenger seat behind the driver.
Hello, I would need advice, I have the F-150 5.4 triton 2004, and I am running out of speed of the engine. CHECK lights up, and the diagnosis writes a poor mix, but obviously everything works electrically. When the accelerator accelerates from the idling speed, detonation is heard in the suction line. Otherwise, in the high swaths, everything is no problem. Do you have any experience what could be damaged? Zdeněk Czech Republic.
My 2007 Expedition EL has a crank , but no start now. No fuel pressure at the rail and fuses and relays are good. My wife runs the tank until almost empty a lot. Would this being repeated be hard on the pump and cause it to fail finally?
The pump requires a certain amount of fuel to run normally. Without the fuel to cool the pump it runs hotter requiring more current draw leading to fuse failure and cooking the blades.
Hey, can talk more about p0171 code? I've cleaned the mass flow sensor, replaced PCV elbows and a vacuum hose. But I'm still getting that error code. Thanks in advance.
Bro I have a 2006 ford and am think in bout trading it in just cause of the spark plugs blowing out and the rocker roller problems. That these trucks can have.. but how common is the spark plug blow out and should I change my rocker roller I bought the truck used with 107000 miles and it runs great just worried if it will happen to me and not sure what maintenance the previous owner did..
hi can you tell me what voltage i should have on the pump in my s max 2.0 tdci, because i checked and i have just 5V on the connector and my pump is not working at all, btw one of the hose from dpf i have snaped and this could be problem that my car wont start??
What about when the gas cap comes on..... I replace it for a new cap and change the evap on the side of the engine .... but still doing the samething and hesitate when I go 25 to 30 mph.... any subjection?
Hy i have a problem with my car Ford fiesta 2005 1.3 benzin since 1 year. when the fuel level lower than 3/1. the engine somethimes stop just 1-2-second when i want to start from the parking or from the red lamp. when i go and i add a gas to 2000 rpm tis is stop but the check engine light not flashing and after nothong when im going in 30km/h or more the diagnoscic not showing nothing. if i add more fuel like half level of the tank the problem lost. and the engine runing good. maybe i have a same problem with the fuel feed unit ??? thanks
2005 Ford f150 going down the road just like you shut the key off now it will not turn over about 4 or 5 times and then acts like it's got too much pressure or something I don't know any ideas
Hey, I just bought a 2011 F150 STX 5.0 Supercab. I was wondering if you might know common door knocking/rattling sounds for this truck. I have a rapid rattle from the driver door, and a clunking sound from rear passenger half door
I have a ford Mondeo mk3 from 2001 and the pump is replaced at 240.000 km But the red connecting clips on the pump are a big problem, the clips are from plastic and connect the fuelhose with the pump. There are three clips on the clip and they are breaking very easy. And you cannot buy or order them. This is so bad from FORD.
I changed my fuel pump mass air flow sensor fuel pump module filter fuzes and everything else I can think of and the gauge cluster tells me check gauges when I first turn key or if it has run and I head into a store I get a crank no start for about three cranks Any thoughts on what I need to do to fix it
I had that happen with my high mileage Escort. It was the little tongue that sticks out of the ignition cylinder and goes into the switch. It was flexing as it started to fail due to fatigue. Keep a set of screw drivers in the car.
We Are All Inventions done all that a month ago when I did a tune up a year ago I did everything to my engine plus transmission change its got new everything on the engine I just dont understand why it keeps telling me Check Gauges and starts like shit after its been warmed up already
Hi on my 2000 ford Taurus i relplaced fuel pump and it deove great for hour or so now car wpnt atart and pump wont turn on i checked the inertia switch and fuses and relays all good. But pump wont turn on why
When i start up my car, the rpm of the car is fluctuating and the engine hesitates, but after driving in the main road (~100 km/hr), the hesitation disappears 80%. No engine light appears. Is this problem related to the fuel system?
Josh Smith i have replaced the spark plug of the cylinder that causes the problem. Now thanks god the hesitation has disappeared.. I didn’t change that spark plug from the beginning because it looks good. I never thought it is the one which caused the problem.

No idea, we don't have that vehicle in my country.
I've been chasing a no start problem all winter long, and i havent given much attention to the pump because i can confirm the pump is working, but ill bet its not working as good as it should.
im going straight home to
A: empty my gas can into the tank to see if that gets it to start
B: figure out exactly what i need to make a custom rig for a fuel pressure reading!
Thanks for the great vids!
Thanks again.
can you do a video on a 4.6 dohc degree and timing chain replacement ? there is no video on the internet on one
I just had one in here for a timing set I should of filmed it.
That's an awesome video.
But how was the PCM responding to no fuel pressure at the rail? Mine is sending a 75% duty cycle to the fuel pump to have it shut off? Does that sound right?
Longevity/reliability wise best 2018 Ford F150 engine 5.0 V8 or 3.5 Eco-boost?
Toyota Tundra 5.7 by far
I noticed your recent Mil fuel 18 impact, how is that working out for you ? thanks bob
after a fuel pump change in my h3 i do not let my fuel get below 1/4 tank to keep fuel pump lubed
Sell it and buy a something decent, like a Tundra.
Good info thanx
Good job, thanks!
Going through video withdraw, need more videos! :)
I have 2006 Ford f-150 STX 4.2. Can you tell me wheres is the valve for fuel pressure tester? Thank you
Hey, can talk more about p0171 code? I've cleaned the mass flow sensor, replaced PCV elbows and a vacuum hose. But I'm still getting that error code. Thanks in advance.
Bro I have a 2006 ford and am think in bout trading it in just cause of the spark plugs blowing out and the rocker roller problems. That these trucks can have.. but how common is the spark plug blow out and should I change my rocker roller I bought the truck used with 107000 miles and it runs great just worried if it will happen to me and not sure what maintenance the previous owner did..

Looking to purchase a 2017, 350 Transit, High Roof, Extended with Twin Turbo Regular V-6 3.5 L/213. Any good advice or thoughts. Thanks for you time!
You should pop that cover off there and fix the bypass valve...its easy to fix, I've done it a few times...then you will have a new pump to sell...
Have you seen/fixed a "long start" issue with a 17-19 F250 6.2?
no
very informative.
What about when the gas cap comes on..... I replace it for a new cap and change the evap on the side of the engine .... but still doing the samething and hesitate when I go 25 to 30 mph.... any subjection?
Mine is ford explorer 2006 4.0 for how long should pressure hold key on engine off

Hey just wondering what ever happened to your Dodge eco diesel??????

Can getting hit from behind can that make junk from inside the tank to clog the fuel system?
2005 Ford f150 going down the road just like you shut the key off now it will not turn over about 4 or 5 times and then acts like it's got too much pressure or something I don't know any ideas
Hey, I just bought a 2011 F150 STX 5.0 Supercab. I was wondering if you might know common door knocking/rattling sounds for this truck. I have a rapid rattle from the driver door, and a clunking sound from rear passenger half door
Lol typical ford
Explain to me how a Tundra is made with taxpayer's money and marketed by a baboon.
I replaced the fuel pump the module starter battery and it's still only four or five turns and then it just won't turn over no more any ideas
04 f150 replace pump keeps blowing pressure line off at pump, and the check valve help please
I have a ford Mondeo mk3 from 2001 and the pump is replaced at 240.000 km
But the red connecting clips on the pump are a big problem, the clips are from plastic and connect the fuelhose with the pump.
There are three clips on the clip and they are breaking very easy.
And you cannot buy or order them.
This is so bad from FORD.
another fine example of why Ford needs to keep their bean counters away from their cars.....
Do you do window tracks on explorers?
Having all kinds of problems in this video lol god bless ya
I changed my fuel pump mass air flow sensor fuel pump module filter fuzes and everything else I can think of and the gauge cluster tells me check gauges when I first turn key or if it has run and I head into a store I get a crank no start for about three cranks
Any thoughts on what I need to do to fix it
I had that happen with my high mileage Escort.
J. Dupont Smith ???
Hi on my 2000 ford Taurus i relplaced fuel pump and it deove great for hour or so now car wpnt atart and pump wont turn on i checked the inertia switch and fuses and relays all good. But pump wont turn on why
Sometimes after market parts only work for a short time. Auto Zone used to be real notorious for that
Is the pump pulse width modulated?
+nick elias On electronic return less systems yes.
When i start up my car, the rpm of the car is fluctuating and the engine hesitates, but after driving in the main road (~100 km/hr), the hesitation disappears 80%. No engine light appears. Is this problem related to the fuel system?
In the same boat no engine light rpms dance at idle acts like it wants to stall but doesnt
Josh Smith i have replaced the spark plug of the cylinder that causes the problem. Now thanks god the hesitation has disappeared.. I didn’t change that spark plug from the beginning because it looks good. I never thought it is the one which caused the problem.
Can u tell me the loction of fuel pump relay in ford ikon car 2003 model???
