Fun thing: Japan has completely different pronunciations for the Romance of the Three Kingdoms characters. So Zhuge Liang being called "Koumei" is technically correct...for them. Think of it like how America says "Spain" but Spain says "Espana" It's a consequence of no one except the Chinese being able to pronounce Chinese.
Yeah, but Koumei!? I mean, "Sousou" at least resembles "Cao Cao" phonetically. And it wasn't that long ago that the pronunciation of the kanji has changed, or is it?

Not to mention the new protagonist shares the voice with Tristan Taylor. Oh, and the Atem sound double? That's Ushio, the first guy that Atem mind crushed.
I was never clear on how far in the future it occurred. All I know is the sub has the Pegasus J. Crawford Memorial Foundation establishing Pegasus is dead. And the dub has Joey Wheeler's cousin, establishing not too far in the future. Plus Ushio of 5Ds and Ushio of Duel Monsters/Season 0 look like they could be the same.

You know, often times people complain about how they keep remaking really good stuff into less good stuff... but I think the things that really deserve a chance at a remake are stuff like Mask of Zeguy. Because you're absolutely right, if this were redone with more self awareness, tongue firmly in cheek, maybe with a bit of parody even, it would be crazy fun. It has plenty of great elements, it just does nothing interesting with them. It's like if they made a Mega Man game with a bunch of really creative new bosses and weapons, but every level was just a flat plane with a single Telly chasing you.

Fairly certain I saw an earlier English dub. It was just called Zeguy and it's been years since I watched it, but I picked up a few differences in lines given. Like when the faecal matter is used to bomb the sandbag wolfmen and scientist dude explains what it is, the Lass said "YUCK! You mean shit!" and the old dude told her off for her language. Was there an English (country) dub as well? Because I am very certain I saw this back in high school which was in the 90's.
