I studied with some incredibly gifted people in college. One of the main things I learned during that time was that no matter how gifted you may be, it does not mean that you are imbued with common sense.
Mike Judge based his characters Beavis and Butthead on 2 of his classmates in high school who happened to be the class geniuses. They both had slightly sociopathic tendencies and would laugh like that all the time.
There was a freak accident in my state where 3 brothers who were all grown men died together at their own property...another guy who went to help him died as well. I'm not so sure of the details but they went inside the water tanky and ran out of oxygen or something. Truly horrifying..

The first story is just bonkers, like literally, *"Naked man climbs 2 fences and an unclimbable concrete wall, overpowers 4 security guards, steals their vehicle and then disappears infront of like 100 people then comes back but then ceases to exist after jumping in a jet engine"*
The twins in the luge story went to my school, and one of them (Jordan) was very involved in student council and school events. He made it a point to talk to everyone and make them feel welcome, which was a really big thing for me when I was in 5th grade and new to the campus and he'd take time out of his day to show me around and introduce me to people so I could have friends. We mourned for two weeks after it happened, and to this day have a memorial for them in the school that people visit very often, especially on the anniversary of their deaths. They're still missed
That is such a super sad story of kids just being kids who ran I to unforseen trouble. I'm so sorry you experienced their loss! It sounds like they were cool nice guys!

I have to take a break from listening to this show. He has become my internal dialog throughout the day. For example, I was out for a run this morning, I took a wrong turn and almost decided to keep going then in the back of my mind I heard in his voice " she thought it was safe to push through, but little did she know that....." Then the other day I had to check under all the beds because I had left the door unlocked for maybe 1 minute. In the back of my mind I imagined him saying "even though her door was unlocked for only a minute, he managed to get in...". My anxiety can't handle these stories, but I am addicted 😅
My family just moved into a new home that’s mid-renovation (so only the first floor is livable). It’s a hundred year old house that had railroad workers living in it who just up and left one day. At the same time we moved, I started watching MrBallen, so I know EXACTLY how you feel 😂
I cannot believe what I'm seeing! I lived in Bakersfield for many years from childhood through early 20s. Jackie Kotarac was My mom's primary care practitioner and mine on the rare occasion I was sick. The second I saw her face flash on the screen I was in shock! After several years of her being my mother's doc and my mom passed away from many medical complications, Dr Kotarac was so heartbroken and reached out to my dad and I. She not only sent flowers to the funeral but also forgave all medical debts from my mom and I. I still always remember her as a caring and wonderful person.

I know a lot of people always think “no, this couldn’t happen to me. That’s just a TV or someone goofing off” but, please, if you hear someone calling out for help take their pleas seriously. Worst case scenario is you’ve waisted a few minutes of your time looking into a false alarm, but it’s more than possible that you’re the one thing standing between someone being saved and certain death. Don’t ever ignore a cry for help
I'd add to that that if you feel at all in danger yourself you should call emergency services and wait, or get someplace safe yourself. There are too many stories of people trying to help someone they thought needed it, but discovered it was a trap. So don't ignore, but use your best judgement and always call for professional assistance.

You know, the moral of many of Mr. Ballen's stories is (pardon the phrase, yet it's accurate) "Stupid people do Stupid Things, and they Get Hurt (or Die)!" I was just about to do a 'stupid thing' last week, and realized that if I did that thing, I might get hurt. So I asked for help, and was OK. Warning signs are not put in place so people can breeze past those signs. Warning signs are put in place to Save LIVES. Thank you, Mr. Ballen, for helping us to think twice before rushing into something 'stupid.'
My guess for the first story, INSTANTLY after hearing of this "health issue", was that it must have been schizophrenia. I've worked with people with severe mental health issues for 6 years. This has all the hall marks of a psychotic episode. Schizophrenia is such a cruel illness, because it sentences the sufferer with a lifetime of fear, isolation and misery. I can only shed a tear for John, and hope that he is resting in peace. I can't divulge personal info, obviously, but some of the things I've seen have had us scratching our heads as to how it was possible that such feats of strength and just effort the things took to achieve.. During such psychosis, I believe that parts of the brain are active that we just don't understand.
Yeah, it could have been any of a number of schizoaffective disorders. Maybe even a particularly intense mania in bipolar. Either way, no pharmacy in any country hands out atypical antipsychotics or lithium over the counter.
How absolutely weird, and of course horribly tragic, that the only two fatalities from that irresponsible ride down the Luge canal were the two identical twins in the group of friends ! My heart goes out to the boy's parents and family - one cannot fathom their terrible loss.

I was really surprised that you covered the story of the two boys in the Luge incident. It actually happened in my city, and really nearby to my place. My mother used to work in the same highschool the twins used to go to, and was actually quite close with them. She’d always say how they were such incredibly joyous, smart and kind kids. Really was an unfortunate incident, and my heart goes out to their family.
The thought of being lodged, wedged, or in any manner stuck in a small space is my biggest phobia. Thanks for the meticulously detailed elucidation, it almost gave me a heart attack.
Yep! I had to skip through when he started explaining exactly how Jackie died. I was like “ugh. Nope. Nope. Nope.” 😆 The thought of it all started freaking me out. I’ll say he sure does cover these stories VERY well in a detailed way.
There's something called cleithrophobia its the fear of getting stuck and I have been that way since I was a child. There is no way I'll ever go caving there's no way I'll do a lot of things I was terrified of elevators as a child cuz I was afraid of getting stuck I was terrified of amusement rides as a child cuz I was afraid they would get stuck like I would get stuck in the seat and it all stems from when I was about four or five I went to this girl's house and her bedroom door swelled and we couldn't get out I climbed out the window it was on the ground level but I was freaking all the way out and I'm 36 and I still don't like the idea of getting trapped.
It happened to a 14 yr old boy December 2019 in a snowy part of the US. He went missing following a row with his dad or step-dad. He was missing for a few days. Police were searching everywhere for him, then searched an empty house opposite to where he lived and when they went inside, they found his coat on the floor near the vent of a blocked up chimney. He had climbed a mast outside the house, climbed onto the roof and down the chimney. He got trapped in the flue and died due to the constriction on his chest. It was heartbreaking 😢
"Unfathomably bad choices." I really appreciate Mr.Ballens' diplomatic way of saying "Stupid." Alcohol is usually a part of people making "Unfathomably bad decisions." 🙏

It seems pretty formulaic. Aside from the bit about the "like" button, his introduction is precisely the same every time. It all feels very focus-grouped.
Regarding the 3rd story... I remember when this happened and I have NEVER forgotten it. She was actually a close friend of mines family doctor. Anyway, she did cry for help but because of her low air capacity and how far down in the chimney she was, her few cries were very faint. It was so bizarre and needless and tragic. Her boyfriend as I believe it was told, was to leave on a trip out of the country was avoiding her because he really didn't want to deal with her anymore. She was inebriated and maybe even stocking him. But my friend said she was a good doctor and well liked by her patients. It's such a tragic way to go... Sadly, she did this to herself.
Nearly everything you stated was already said in the video, so don't know why you repeated it here. The only thing different you stated, was your theory about Jackie being a stalker & that being the reason William left the country.
This explains why he fled his own house. I thought that part was a suspiciously conveniently reason for not helping someone stuck in the chimney but if were a potentially dangerous stalker that would make sense. Otherwise why flee instead of just not answer the door
That detail as well as Jackie's incredibly psychotic decision to break into his house (I know she was drunk, but drunkeness does not MAKE you do anything you were not already prone to doing, maybe just more easily and recklessly) leads me to believe Jackie must have been a very controlling and imposing person. It's not unreasonable to suspect that she was the forceful and aggressive one in the relationship.
I’m from Calgary, Alberta and every time I hear about the luge tragedy it hits me deeper. Thank you for re-telling their story in an accurate and moving way.
Maybe I'm too negative, but I never felt this was a tragedy. Just a bunch of stupid decisions that lead to their death, which happens more than you think. Qualified Olympians have died on luge tracks, they had to have known there was risk of injury/death. Also it was one of those- well the consequences were bad enough, let's not charge them for breaking and entering, ect. So the kid that worked there, encouraged his friends to do this, didn't walk the track to check for obstacles (basic for any course sport) got off with just his injuries. - Jaded calgarian
Most people find the silver lining in the position of the twins' bodies, but I find it in the fact that neither ever knew the other was dead. I can only imagine the amount of grief from losing a lifelong twin.
No they just accidentally ended up that way he said. He said the others were injured and didn't move anyone. Prayers to the family of these young men it is a tragic story.
I find it odd that both died from the same injuries. Then they were both in the same location right next to each other after being flown from the track! Too many coincidences...
Listening to the story of the girl in the chimney gave me a physical reaction. As she is sliding farther and farther down the chimney as the chimney narrows, and she is having a difficult time breathing, I found myself feeling very short of breath and almost claustrophobic. Mr. Ballen you have to be one of the best story tellers I have ever heard. You bring things to life just by the telling of it. I thoroughly enjoy your stories. Thank you for sharing your talent of storytelling.
@J Lucas I had the same reaction! I was lying in bed, trying to convince myself to get up and start my day, and listening to this video. As @MrBallen described what Jacque was experiencing, I found myself propping myself up on my elbows, then pushing the sheet off, and then sitting right up in bed. I so wanted to be free of all constrictions, that even lying in bed felt to be too much! MrBallen is so talented!

The twins having both been killed the exact same way moments apart and laid out side by side, that hurts. I feel so terrible for their parents, losing both boys in such a senseless way. That luge story makes me feel so bad. They were just having fun and they were not trying to hurt anyone or do any damage to the property they were using. What they did was wrong. But what they did was stupid (not wearing helmets, not wearing lights), however, the consequences were far more than what they deserved.
The boys were just plain stupid for ignoring the signs - High-risk activities are only fun for the first five seconds - Beyond that, the 'body' and soul can easily part company. At least those that died became 'somebody' and joined all the other bodies in the cemetry. The only worthwhile thing that emerged from it is that the soul returned early to its place of origin. So for all the stupid people who wish to take risks for fun - remember that if you wish for the soul to stay with you - do everything to protect it and not participate in high-risk activity. Good luck every'one'
There is no "deserve" in real life. Things can just happen when you are trying to have fun. I def would not want to be pitied if I died having fun. I like how the UK (or Aus?) call it, death by "misadventure".

That was actually very understandable, they were identical twins, one was not going without the other. It really creeps me out that the identical twins both died in the same, really gruesome way while the other boys survived. Those poor parents. Can you imagine both of your sons being unexpectedly decapitated on the same evening?!
That story hit me hard. Those poor poor boys. As a twin myself, I’m thinking it happened for a reason. When one twin loses the other it’s an unbelievable heartbreak on the other. And there have been studies that have shown when one twin dies, the other one dies shortly after. I could only imagine what one twin would have felt if one had survived. The pain would be insane.
@@creciascott253 Yeah, I follow a mom on tiktok who had twin daughters and one died at birth. Apparently the living twin cries for her sister all the time now and doesn't even like her own birthday because it makes her sad because she feels its the day she lost her sister rather than the day she was born. It's so sad. I feel so bad for those boy's parents! I couldn't deal with losing two kids at once!
This story made me think how this was definitely a predetermined outcome. Maybe by some higher power beyond comprehension. I mean, come on we get twins who die exactly the same way seconds from eachother. If this is not an example of the supernatural i don't know what else could be. What a shame fate decided this for them. I pray they're in a better place than this cruel reality 🙏
The chimney story is beyond anxiety inducing! Can’t even imagine the horror she experienced before she died. That’s got to be one of the worst ways to go
Right! I recently watched another one of these videos where the boy met a similar fate. He tried to sneak in an abandoned house through the chimney that looked like it was wide enough for him to fit down through, but it got skinnier & skinnier as it went down, and the boy got stuck about half way down. Apparently, every time he screamed out, it caused him to become lodged down a little further, which was starting to put pressure on his chest. He basically was getting crushed slowly to death until he finally suffocated from not being able to take in enough oxygen. I can’t even imagine how terrifying something like that would be; It’s seriously nightmare inducing.
@@jmh2105 Oof! Yeah, that might be one of the only things that could make a situation like this worse-being stuck head first instead of feet/legs first. I’m getting claustrophobic/panic attacks just thinking about it lol
There's another story like this, about someone stealing a vehicle, trying to get away through the pillar of a restaurant and getting suffocated and burnt by sun to death.. indeed worst way to die!
I cannot even imagine the anguish of the parents of the twins who were decapitated. What a horrific way to lose a child, and then to lose both children in the same gruesome manner. As a parent, I don’t know how you go on from that.
It’s a bit eerie that they died the exact same way and ended up right next to each other. I’m glad he said their parents found it comforting that they were together in the end.
Oh my god, the sled story wrecked me! How absolutely horrible for that family to lose their twin sons, and how horrible for the survivors who survived. 😢😢😢
@@clementine2001 i agree, sorry if this is offensive, but getting beheaded is not as bad as suffering for a long while. Dying a slow, painful death...stuck in the dark all alone.
@@clementine2001 I suppose you're right. But the woman who went down the chimney was a full-on adult and should've known better. Yes, the kids should've known better, too. But it's more developmentally appropriate for almost-adult boys without life experience to pull this sort of innocent mischief. Full disclosure... ALSO I have three sons, two of which are 20 year old identical twins. So yeah, that undoubtedly contributed to my horror and sorrow over the twins' heartbreaking demise.
I think one of the scariest things I've ever learned on your channel, is that it is possible for human beings to have such an intense psychotic break that they run around town naked, after trying to murder their friend, and jump into a jet plane engine. Wow that's crazy
I feel like poor jon may have gone to TNT without his meds and found he wasn't able to get more once he arrived 🙃😶 there are also many physical things that can cause psychosis. He covered a similar stories a while ago about a man running from police in a walmart. He got to the roof and had hidden inside one of the pillars and slowly went down further and further until he hit the bottom where his arms were restricted. He died of suffocation and heat stroke

During such psychosis, I believe that parts of the brain are active that we just don't understand.
that could be possible, we don't have medicines like that to be purchased without a prescription from a doctor

Also it was one of those- well the consequences were bad enough, let's not charge them for breaking and entering, ect. So the kid that worked there, encouraged his friends to do this, didn't walk the track to check for obstacles (basic for any course sport) got off with just his injuries.

At least those that died became 'somebody' and joined all

The only worthwhile thing that emerged from it is that the soul
returned early to its place of origin.

I feel like poor jon may have gone to TNT without his meds and found he wasn't able to get more once he arrived 🙃😶 there are also many physical things that can cause psychosis. Ita so sad 🥲 I hope his friend is okay now. That's so traumatic.
Of course tnt has hospitals and things but they don't have the same level of mental health infrastructure as the US 😪🥲
Im sure he couldn't get the meds he needed without a prescription
If it was me I would NOT allow myself to get into that situation. I would go to the airport and tell them that I need to get home RIGHT AWAY, and possibly even strapped down, so I could get home and take my medicines. I would not allowe myself to take the risk without my medication.
the parents of those twins must be so devastated. my heart goes out to them. the rest of the boys got incredibly lucky to not have also been killed. it's a wonder as many of us survive our teenage years as we do.
They tried to sue COP (Canada Olympic Park) for putting the chain there!
Deb barringer that is so true it is amazing how many of us do make it through our teenage years!! I have grandkids now and I really worry about them because it’s a lot worse out in the world than it was when I was a kid! I’m 57 and it’s nothing like it was when I was a teenager!! I just pry that God watches over them and keeps them safe!!
@@downhomesunset I meaaaaaan….. it’s not the park’s fault the kids were doing illegal stuff.
I could not agree more with all of you. Sometimes I look back and say, man ... my friends and I could have really been killed. Now, I am so concerned about my son! You can't keep them locked up, but at the same time, you WANT TO!!
@@crystalmesser6902 unfortunately those of us who were extremely sheltered as kids end up going off the deep end as young adults. Hi 👋 that person is me 🤣🤣🤣
Never knew just how unbelievably dangerous killer chimneys were until I started watching these videos.
We need chimney control legislation now!
We need an assualt chimney ban 😜
Nobody ever talks about chimneys and how dangerous they are. All you think happens is you fall down and get dirty. After all, that's how Santa and all the burglars get in.
Chimneys are actually pretty dangerous, especially if not properly maintained
Plus falling in trash compactors, sliding down a vent that also narrows, and so on. It certainly makes us more aware or assessing the dangers & making rational decisions before we explore an abandoned structure, an old mining cave & so on. MrBallin's stories teach us whilst enthralling us with his excellent storytelling skills.
MrBallen deserves some credit for the accidents he has prevented since starting to tell his stories.
"The secret" is ... Whoever finds the secret can't possibly be a fan because how could they even notice "the secret" when the stories are always so captivating? Excellent episode, Mr Ballen!
(BTW... I always am on the lookout for the secret, but have never seen it without the pinned comment cheat!)
I know it seems like the only way to find the secret is to only look for the secret and not listen to the story LOL good point
I haven't even noticed, there's no "pinned comment" yet, might happen at any moment though.
I don’t even know what’s the secret... even when pinned in the comments...
Same!
I saw one before but it was so long after I didn’t even comment, they are so hard for me to find
I was working for the Coroner in Calgary when the Caldwell twins were brought in for examination by the Forensic Pathologists. Such sad and gruesome deaths; our entire staff was affected deeply by the huge loss of these two young men.
That’s really sad
Oh no way. Man that’s shitty.
@yukie bot
Holy smokes, that must have been rough. I can't even imagine the heavy pall of sadness that must have hung over you and your coworkers after such a tragic accident. Oof.
@@netherwolves3412 Never fear, the comment patrol is on it. I hate those damn bot comments. I report every one of them.
The way Mr. Ballen tells the story like he was actually there and his flannel shirt collection fascinates me.
that ballen drip be hitting different LOL
Let's not forget the caps that he wears backwards. Talk about a style.
Yes 👏🏼
@@LesA.R.6568 would love to see him without the hat.
lmfaooo forreal! he gets so fucking into it! its amazing
Thanks for the video!!! Always entertaining
I absolutely love how the pics are all “real” or “different” pics of the various places, etc, Mr. Ballen talks about lol. I’m so glad that he lets us know about that lol
* not real
I love that it specifies whether or not it’s a real photo too. Some youtubers use stock photos/videos and don’t tell you, and it can be confusing not knowing what’s real lol.
yes good on him, giving us the best possible content he can!
I 👍
@ Just curious, if you know they are exaggerated, then why are you here commenting? I'm assuming because, regardless of how trivial his mistakes are, you like his stories/storytelling? 🤔
Climbing barbed wire fence while naked is pretty impressive honestly
i lowkey agree lol.
He must’ve been doped up on something

Yeah that's the part that scared me the most. That Constantine wire is no joke. Like razor blades.
@imgladandrewgillumisnotmykang that depends on the dude...
No matter how 'brilliant' a person is, once they're intoxicated, they are likely to become inconceivably less so.
you gotta love the "please drink responsibly" sayings. like, drinking in its essence makes you irresponsible.
For some reason I did way better in school when drunk. It slows down my ADD brain enough to where I can actually focus on one thing and not a million at once. And now I have a master's degree in aerospace engineering because of it lmao
@@valkyrja-- yet. Is ADD all you had?
@@valkyrja-- theres a huge difference between being drunk at school, and being a drunk in school.
How drunk you gotta be to become Santa tho?
I really enjoy that he is very respectful, even when the person makes mistakes
When he was telling the part about being stuck, constricted not being able to move her hands to escape I felt every bit of it in my lungs and chest. That is a true nightmare. I'd rather jump into the spinning turbines, head first though.
Id rather be chopped head first than fall into that chimney flue
He covered a similar stories a while ago about a man running from police in a walmart. He got to the roof and had hidden inside one of the pillars and slowly went down further and further until he hit the bottom where his arms were restricted. He died of suffocation and heat stroke
@Justine Biebler what does that even mean
@@megamushroom I understood everything he said without confusion.
@@d2mogu he's covered several stories of this happening. That's gotta be my worst nightmare!
On many occasions I've heard these stories of people trying to gain entrance to a home through the chimney. But just the idea of going down feet first from a rooftop into a dark hole and expecting to come out the other end unscathed is totally insane to begin with.
Mr Ballen should do a story on London's chimney sweeps. Those poor children.
Would head first be better?
@@jedlynch4820 that would be so much fucking worse….
I have a brilliant idea. Don’t go in tiny enclosed spaces that are easy to get stuck in like a damn chimney in the first place, problem solved.
That’s gotta be such a nasty way to go…

That luge sit was sad, the parent of the kids lives in our neighborhood and I can’t imagine having to deal with that loss, there’s 2 benches in a rock park up the hill that has 2 benches commemorating them and there’s some really nice planted flowers in a fancy planter there.
Which one of the kids live in your neighbourhood?
@@Citrix5855 I’m assuming the boys that passed
