      Bar end mirrors down may look good to you but to me they just look wrong.
      As an engineer, retired, I find the saying “form follows function” is very often correct, bar end mirrors down are not functional, which is probably why they look wrong.

      Yes, I agree. If your arm blocks the bar end down mirror, and you have to move your head to see traffic in the mirror, it is not helping you very much. Looking cool can get you killed. @@murraymarshall5865

      I agree safety and practicality should always be more important than style. That being said, I'm a pretty big guy and I can't always get stock mirrors in the right position where I can see behind me without my arm obstructing the view. I think bar end mirrors in the upright position could give me a better view... I actually came to this video to check out the difference 😅

  • @ariesmarsexpress
    @ariesmarsexpress Місяць тому

    hmmm...my stock mirrors suck because literally the only thing I see in them without large movements is my shoulders. If filtering were legal where I am, they would not be an issue though because they are so far toward the center of the bike. Even worse replacing them would not help because it is the position on the bars being permanently fixed that is the primary issue and the mirrors have my front blinkers on them so they are wired in.
    My windshield does not obstruct my vision and for me it is just a place to mount things. In order to get something approaching safe vision of what's happening, I had to do the following:
    The stock mirrors are still there
    I added a holographic mirror to the top of my windshield which gives me pretty decent vision, but it mainly gives me an overall sense rather than specifics.
    I added Fenrir Cafe Racer round bar end mirrors (which can also rotate all the way in) and between the holographic and the end bar mirrors, I can now see everything. The stock mirrors are for decoration.
    I feel sorry for anyone traveling behind me if the sun is at my back. lol

    BTW, what's the difference between filtering and splitting?

    • @KairyuRider
      @KairyuRider  2 роки тому +2

      I briefly explained in the video be essentially filtering speed is Under 30kmh (20mph) and no more than 15kmh (10mph) faster than the other cars. This what everyone has time to react and small mistakes stay small. I believe this is the general standard give or take globally,
      We would both prefer I only ding your mirror rather than go head first through your window😅
      Splitting is anything outside of those speeds. It does happen here but usually on on scooters or on major highways where you could fit an entire car in between and traffic is still comparably slow. And in traffic jams of any speed car drivers tend to move away from center to give way to bikes. Speeds things up for everyone.
      I’ll plan to make a more detailed video on this in the future.

    As a driver trainer, I don't give a ripp about style or fashion. Safety is number one. I've seen too many people get their legs ripped off from not seeing a car sneak up beside them. So for what it's worth here's my observation. Most guys with angular mirrors have them on upside down. And if you don't believe me just sit down, and take a look in these upside down mirrors. Almost the entire outside end is looking at sky! And how is that going to help you see cars? Cars are on the ground, not the sky. So if you have the misfortune of having a set of these mirrors on your bike, try to rotate the left one counterclockwise, and the right one clockwise. If that does not work, throw them in the garbage. Bottom line: You need to see traffic, NOT sky.

    • @KairyuRider
      @KairyuRider  5 місяців тому

      Sorry, but I'm not sure what you're talking about. All my mirrors have always pointed at traffic, not cloud watching.

    In my 32 years of riding I had 2 accidents. This is to say that today at my age I understood that there's no such thing as too much safety. I dig the whole scene of modding your bike but the stock mirrors are the best mirrors you can have in 95% of cases. Don't swap them. They were made that way for a reason. I understand people bullshitting themselves such as "O yeah but the stock mirrors don't give me the right angle or level of vision or my hands or my shoulders or my ass covers part of the mirror." You know that's all bullshit right? When Honda or Suzuki or whoever make mirrors they give them sufficient mobility for riders from 5 foot 3 to 6 foot 3 to be able to have full view. Mike out.

    • @KairyuRider
      @KairyuRider  9 місяців тому +6

      I now ride an mt07, and the handle bars are the width of my shoulders. This means the stock Mirrors give me the choice to stare at my shoulders and elbow or adjust them to see the lain to my left and right but never being me.
      I put on bar end Mirrors and can now see everything behind me and in both lanes to my left and right.
      I worked for yamaha Japan for a year and have friends who work for the other 3 Japanese makers. The way them make Mirrors is, first and foremost, to follow road regulations. Second is to save as much money as they can to mass produce for multiple bike. So my wide handled tracer has the same Mirrors as my narrow mt07.
      Safety is in the conversation but only after road rules (for example hamlets passing DOT while that standard allows life threatening impact) and then it is a mass production money saving.
      That being said. My wife who is much smaller than me loves the stock Mirrors for her pov and safety.
      But don't trust the oem as if they never cut corners or just get it wrong. They definitely do.
      And bikes are a risk of safety. If it's safety first every time. Sel the bike, buy a train or bus ticket.

      Rather, stock Mirrors follow all road laws, very few countries actually require the "stock" position. That plus the ease to biuld 1 mirror for almost every bike in the yamaha range makes it extremely cost effective.
