I thought, for sure, that Tone A was the amp; it surprised me and I'm really considering getting this pedal. Have you compared the VH4-2 to the Herbert for the AJ sound?
Thank you! I very appreciate your help with my GAS I’ve also noticed that the major difference is the dynamic range, except that they’re pretty similar
Just got both of them a few days ago as well. How are you running them? I tried through the loop of my PRS Mt15 but was disappointed at the tone but the Second I switched it to in front of the Amp clean channel with the Amp eq set to noon they started to sing.
Wow, I was sure there was going to be a second reveal where the first reveal wasn’t true and A actually was the amp! I liked A better in every single comparison, I’m really surprised!
Yupperoni, got both the 1st version of the VH4 Pedal and the Herbert Preamp pedal. Running them in stereo through Damage Control Womanizer and Demonizer respectively. I'm a happy camper.
In my pedal the key to the AJ tones is to max the mid. Having it at max, you will be on aenima ground. You can pretty much dial the rest as you wish and will be nice sounding; but I find the more pleasant tones if I set the treb and bass between 2 and 3 o'clock, gain at noon (though I always wind up maxing it), presence at 1 o'clock,, deep at 3 o'clock or max.
I’m a bit surprised, the A sounded better, more clarity/attack, less fuzzy. You’re using quite a bit gain, how these things sound if you drop the gain a bit?
@@BasementGAS hey just out of curiosity is this a studio you are in or is it actually a basement of your residence. Wanted to know how you can run so much gear and not rattle the neighbors?
@@BasementGAS to my ears the B tone sounded tighter, like when you played the open strings, I guessed correctly that tone B was the head. I guess I can hear a clear difference and could pick out that the more refined tone was from the head, but is it a $2000 plus noticeable difference? I don't know, but if you have the time, I would appreciate to hear the difference between the fat sandwich pedal and the diezel pedal and the head just to know how close way huge gets to Adam's tone in comparison to the two diezel products. Thanks One more thing, can the vh 4 original pedal also work for Adam's tone or does one have to get version 2?
Sorry, but I don’t understand... I think Tone A (pedal) is far away better, how it can be possible? It’s only my impression or even you noticed that? Pedal seems to have a tighter sound, more open, with more harmonics and dynimics... Amp seems to have a similar sound, but muddier, fatter, flatter, and weaker... What do you think about? Maybe, with the UA-cam compression, we don’t listen so well the sound, so you can tell us better! Another question: The pickup in the bridge is a Seymour Duncan JB? Perfect match!
Jack, have you preordered one of the AJ signature Les Pablos? They're an absolute bargain. Signed 15k, normal 8k. I'm a fan, but I don't wanna go bankrupt for Tool's sake. I'm hoping that Epiphone will release something ... similar for less dough.
Seriously? Is that the official price? Holly molly...that is quite a stack of cash :-/ - and seriously, an extra 7k for the signature? Are you positive? Cause if so, that is insane.
@@fraenkiboii better start saving up now 😂 I don't think the signed one is on my wishlist though. Unless I sell all of my other guitars...which ain't happening. Don't think there's the possibility to preorder
What IR did you use if you don't mind me asking? As in mic and position. Was it from the new (r)Evolution stuff? Sounded pretty close to me but there is definitely a difference. Hard to say which one I preferred tbh.
Long time no hear Lt. Llama. Hope you're well. Yes, it's from the (r)Evolution pack. Can highly recommend for IR plugins or loaders. I prefer the amp but if you're on a budget the pedal is absolutely amazing.
@@BasementGAS do you mind doing a very quick comparison between the vh4 pedal and the fat sandwich pedal . There's a $200 difference in price . Just wanted to know how close they both are to each other in terms of Jones tone. Would really appreciate it. Need to purchase 1 of them. Also, is the vh4 -2 necessary or does the old vh4 sufficient?
i was thinking about getting this or the synergy vh4 to make me happy till the vh mini gets released but i think im just going to wait. lol. the synergy cuts out some of what i like from the actual amps. i may just get the brainworx vh4 plugin to hold me over.
Great video! I appreciate it a whole bunch! Didn't expect to find this on youtubes but here you are ! edit: only thing, too much gain for adam jones man :))
Hey Jack! Didn't know how else to reach out, so here's a comment. The AJ sigs will be announced this week. Allegedly, they're all sold already. However, while reading the specs, I noticed something that could be worth sharing and trying. Now, you might already have this and know this. In the specs listed here (www.gearnews.com/gibson-custom-shop-les-paul-custom-adam-jones-signature-silverburst-already-sold-out/) they state AJ's uses a 47nF capacitor in conjunction with a DiMarzio Pot on the bridge pickup. At first, this doesn't sound like much of a big deal. But my Les Paul, for instance, has 22nF caps and some Gibson/CTS pots. I know you have a LP Custom, so you should be "covered". I've got a 2014 LPJ with a PCB in the electronics cavity and I'm having trouble with a broken component - don't know which one, yet. So, I needed to order new pots/switch/jack/caps anyway. I ordered a pair of 22nF and 47nF orange drops. Will let you know if there's a difference.
Nice marketing trick. Can't lie. A better comparison would be to try to make each sound it's best, not make one sound dull so the cheaper one is favored. I should try this next time I sell some gear.
Good video BUT all this stuff like “name that tune” just pushing me skip most of the video and just watch end part of it (whatever what video is about or how good it is)
Diezels are all about the power section baby. Without that.. Quit playing guitar I guess..lol. I'm so used to my Diezel I think I would literally quit playing without it.
That’s what I use and it sounds really good. I swapped my power tubes for 6CA7 tubes and put a ruby 12ax7 in v1 of the origin. Gave me a better tone. I use the VH4 pedal right into the amp along with everything else. Sounds better than it should.
@@jaygough6792 that sounds sweet! I ended up ever getting the origin but I had the vh pedal. Wasn’t crazy about it. I’ve played the Herbert pedal and that thing was awesome.
Hey man, I just messaged your Instagram account. I have a pic of Adams Fear Inoculum pedalboard, but I’m running into an issue. Please help a brother out. Check your Instagram pms! Thank you!
I'm setting up a rig and would love to get a Diezel VH4. However, like most people I can't afford one, so I'm thinking of buying the Diezel VH4-2 pedal instead. But Having watched lots of videos about amps+distortion pedals I'm unsure about what amp to get to complement the VH4-2 pedal. I was first thinking about buying a Victory Kraken but most people say you shouldn't pair a heavy distortion pedal with a dirty amp, and that it's better to get a clean amp when running heavy distortion pedals. Is this true and if so - what amps (tube amps in different price ranges) should I be looking at?
I run mine through an Orange Pedal Baby and it sounds incredible. I have other tube amps as well. My Splawn Quickrod has a good clean channel but I still like running it through the Orange Pedal Baby.
Thought for sure Tone A was the amp which was my preference. Pleasantly surprised. Purchased the pedal earlier today. Thanks Jack
I preferred tone A it sounded more full and less boxy to be honest and was then suprised with the reveal :D

I bought both the vh4-2 and the herbert... they are awesome.. the only thing I would change is a seperate gain on each channel of the herbert

Sounds like the pedal has more mids. I wonder if you backed off the mids how close it would sound to the amp.

Early guess. Tone B is the head. Lets see. 2nd comment Not as good as the head but I love my pedal for bedroom use. Thats where I play and its great

You got the same pedal as the Herbert has the same range as the VH4 plus it has mid controls. Grats on spending $300 more!
@@kingfisher7960 Thanks, I have no problem with spending money to get what I want!
Ahhhhhh doing the good lords work. Adam Jones (reincarnated jesus) would be proud ;)
