      You've heard the Concerto for Orchestra . If you haven't you (and anyone who reads this is in for perhaps the culmination of the first half of the 20th century in aural profundity

    wow! thanks ! Wonderful to be able to see this score gone use it in my Mozartiana along with schnittke and Matthias Pintscher .I'm so sick of hearing pre20th century music .This came late in LutoPluto's career !

      It's a little bit ironic that you're writing a tribute to Mozart when you say you're "so sick of hearing pre-20th century music"

    Not a bad piece. While I do not perceive that there is any consistent, coherent pitch language other than a bare chromatic scale, nor any obvious thematic material, it does have a definite overall shape articulated purely by gesture, texture and timbre (a shape which is very well-worn in western classical music by now). Also the piano part is easy to follow and is (except toward the end of movts 3 and 4) not gratuitously virtuosic. For harmonies, I sense that he follows his ear rather than some abstract numeric scheme, although toward the end of movt 4 they get awfully muddy and messy. Of course, all anyone wants to talk about these days with regard to contemporary classical music is ORCHESTRATION. Like that’s all there is to music.

    This concerto is of course very well written, but it does not rank between my preferred pieces from Lutoslawski. I prefer by much the concerto for cello. Pergaps should I listen to it many times more carefully?

    • @rogerparton8572

      I enjoy the Lutoslawski piano concerto, and this recording of it, but yes, I agree with you - it is not among my very favorite works by this composer. The cello concerto seems to me as well to be the better work.

    • @zgart
      @zgart 4 роки тому +1

      I used to think the same way, but I think for me the main problem is that the beginning of the first movement doesn’t hold my attention well enough, after that it’s an enchanting work, comparable with the cello concerto imo

    • @gerardbegni2806
      @gerardbegni2806 2 роки тому

      @@zgart Actually I have the sme feeling than you. In this beginning section, the piano part looks like a tribute to Bartok's night or nature music, before becoming more prenent, and during this evolution, there are subsections where te timpani ar the percuissive piano writing seem alo so a tribute to another Bartok's writing style.

    • @slateflash
      @slateflash 7 років тому +17

      Because it's so visceral. It makes you feel emotions that all the composers before weren't able to attain in their music

      Probably because Hollywood appropriated this kind of music as the soundtrack for horror films. You can't have a scary music without something that sounds like this.

      Paskudny komentarz, kompozycja natomiast znakomita. Muzyka odzwierciedla przeróżne emocje, nie zawsze radosne, cukierkowe, czy trafiające w gusta gawiedzi. Być może pan tych emocji nie pojmuje. Są rzeczy i dziedziny, których podobnie nie pojmuje i ja, nie udzielam jednak na ich temat bezwartościowych, pożałowania godnych opinii. Proszę uwierzyć, że nie każdym ekstrementem tego rodzaju wyciśniętym w wielkich bólach i trudzie z mózgownicy warto dzielić się z całym światem. Miej Pan litość i oszczędź bliźnim zażenowania.
