    Wait?!
    Your POTS comes from EDS?
    My mum has the same issue, she was diagnosed a year or so ago. (after about two years of issues)
    Glad you're ok and it hasn't affected you, she lost her job because of it.
    It doesn't really seem like you have EDS, though.
    Also, I'd suggest you get a handless cord/leash and attatch it to yourself or your wheelchair

    • @ServiceDogPaws
      @ServiceDogPaws  7 років тому +2

      I just don't talk much about it. I'm so used to it. My joints pop a lot and stay painful etc. My hips are bad about popping. And my jaw. And hands. Hypermobility etc. My SI Joints getting messed up from the car wreck won't ever get better because of the EDS. Back pain (in part due to scoliosis as a kid but I grew out of it mostly) I bruise very easily, stretchy skin (it's not part of the criteria anymore for EDS but some patients still have stretchy skin some don't). There are different forms of EDS too

      POTS and EDS and gastroparesis all really go hand in hand you said that you've possibly might have all three service dog paws. If you can the easiest way to be tested instead of going through the nasty gi testing is to really get the genetic marker testing.

    • @agent_4792
      @agent_4792 7 років тому

      Service Dog Paws sorry, if you get the genetic marker testing, it's so much easier then having to jump through so many hoops with all the nasty tests of the gastroparesis and EDS testing
      It saves you countless visits
      I know you don't have insurance right now. So it might be something to look into

    I've passed out at a choir concert before and it honestly traumitized me, I can't imagine fainting as often as you do, with your stress, fainting is literally the worst thing that has ever happened to me and I wouldn't do it again for all the money in the world. There are wheelchair leashes for service dogs available. Also what will help is getting gloves like leather is best for grip also avoid blisters!!!! You have a commercial type of wheelchair. Carpet, gravel, or any texture thats not smooth like tile.is gonna be a pain in the but Plus building upper body strength will take time. I had to do the same the same thing. Get some one pound weights two of them and work out your biceps your upper body arms for 5,10,15,20 minutes a day over a month at a pace. And unfortunately yes people will steal service dog, if their not tethered to you. During my asthma attack that than turned my SVT, a group of guys tried to take my service dog. Sadly am not the only story. Make sure you have anti tippers?

    • @Lycanbride
      @Lycanbride 7 років тому +1

      She can drive. Further info on this topic: People with things like Passing out or seizures can drive if their conditions are mild or controlled enough and they are feeling well enough. Also if the condition is bad enough their doctor would be the one to say "hey your not fit to drive right now" and then they would report in to the DMV and the person isn't even allowed to drive home. Then they can get their licence back again once their doctor clears them.

      I just looked at DMV medical requirements in the US and a person must be seizure free for 12 months before getting or keeping their license and any condition that effects consciousness would have the same restrictions. Good question I had wondered the same thing.

    ..No serious talk. I talked to some girls with POTS. and they let me know it is very very reasonable to lay down the way you do gently and not go unconcious the way I thought. I think you said at one point either in a vlog or in a live video that you were getting a custom wheelchair. Is that true? And, if so, is that it? If you got a custom wheelchair it would fit you better and would be easier to maneuver. Max did a great job trying to stay with you though! I have used a wheelchair my whole life and I STILL bump into things btw!

    I don't know what your finances are like, but if you think you can swing it, you should get yourself a custom made wheelchair. The big things about it are lighter, and custom fit to your body. I can see that there's a fair bit of space between you and the sides of the chair. This reaching out is a lot harder to do. The idea is that the seat width and depth are measured and the whole thing is set up so that you are very near the balance point of the chair and it makes it easier to do a wheelie when needed to accommodate a curb, or other raised object.

    How much does a service dog cost I know for different problems it cost different but on an average of cost because I would love to have one for my diabetes?

    • @Lycanbride
      @Lycanbride 7 років тому +2

      Through a legitimate program, around 20-60 thousand dollars Plus wait list time. Owner training varies so much depending on if you rescue or buy from a breeder, what you need for the dog, training done by you and or with the help of a trainer can cost vastly varying amounts. Either way you have to have your dog in for regular check ups and up keep is a must. A service dog has to be in perfect health, up to date shots ect, and be clean enough to eat off of XD. It's not cheap any way you slice it but owner training can be cheaper. The biggest risk is if your doing the training and the dog washes you have to care for or re home the dog and then start over with a new dog. You should talk to your doctor and see if they think a service dog is the right path for you first.

    • @ServiceDogPaws
      @ServiceDogPaws  7 років тому

      He's 60% my weight and 40% my height. I'm child size so he will be able to for me. Last time he was weighed (about a month ago) he was 50lbs I stay between 86-92lbs. He also has a few more months to build up his muscle weight. (He was slightly underweight when I rescued him so it's been a matter of getting him to the size he should be.) He wouldn't be able to for anyone 110lbs. But he was cleared by a vet 2? months ago to start training. Then I found out they shouldn't even start mobility training until 2 period. So it's on hold. And I'll have him cleared again before we start. (:

    Hello i been watching your videos how do i get my dog to become a services dog ?

    • @ServiceDogPaws
      @ServiceDogPaws  7 років тому +1

      A Service dog is a dog specifically trained to mitigate its owners disabilities. Not every dog can just 'become a service dog'. 1. You have to have a disability that qualifies you for a service dog. 2. The dog has to be trained correctly to respond to your specific disability. 3. THe dog has to be perfect. Cant bark or growl, at other people or animals. And behave perfectly at all times. Walk correctly on a leash. Not sniff the ground, always listen to your commands. Has to know all basic obedience and service dog tasks related to your disability. IF you don't have a disability and try to 'make your dog a service dog' you can get into a lot of legal trouble because it is very illegal to fake a service dog.

      She is like many of us with chronic illnesses, she will use the chair when necessary. so not all the time. Myself I use a chair on bad days or for trips with lots of walking. I don't have one of my own yet so I usually just have to hope the store or location has one available.

  • @1988eleonor
    @1988eleonor 6 років тому

    No wonder you have troubles propelling your wheelchair: it's WAY TO BIG for you! I don't constantly follow your vlog, so I don't exactly know if you need it on a daily basis, if it's on your treatment plan or you just borrowed it for long distance trips... If you use it regularly try to apply for one that suits better your needs. That way even training your dog to be on leash next to you will be easier. Even if going on things works too LOL

      Service dogs must be under control of their handler at all times. This usually means being on a leash, unless it interferes with the dogs performance or ability to perform it's tasks. All service dogs need to be trained in off leash work, just in case it is required. She is in the process of training Max. Furthermore, in the act of using the wheelchair, the leash she has would have both hindered his ability to work his tasks, and perform as normal.
      There is nothing wrong with her having him off leash. Alabama allows service dogs in training public access, and that includes time spent training. So no, there was nothing wrong with what she was doing, and animal control could not have legally taken him.

  • @iliveindetroit1

    dog is brushing up against clothes. not cool..many people handicap dont use a dog..for real..learn how to use your wheelchair first, then move on..
