Same for me, as a 13 year old. It wasn't until at least 10 years later when I heard "Dear Mr. Fantasy", and then more of the classic Traffic and Blind Faith.
I hate 80s music production - hated it while I lived through it and today, still. Nothing like going back and thinking, “hmmm, there’s a good song in there, somewhere.”

Nothing poppy about this. It was written with Steve by soul music legend writers Holland, Dozier and Holland. By the way, nothing wrong with pop music. I hate genres anyway.
Steve Winwood has a legendary voice. It's amazing how good it's remained from the Spencer Davis Group when he was a teenager up into his 70's. He posted a video 10 months ago of him singing "Gimmie Some Lovin" from the Spencer Davis Group and he still sounded great.

This song hit #1 in the summer of '88, when Winwood was still only 40. It is truly amazing that he accomplished so much greatness by that time: Spencer Davis, Blind Faith, Traffic and much of his solo career. A truly gifted musician.
Finally Roll with It!!! I was 10 years old in the summer of 88 when this song dropped. It got so much air play on MTV (remember that channel that uses to play videos?). I've played keys since I was even younger so when I heard those and the brass, it got my attention and I loved it IMMEDIATELY, even at that young age. Still loving it all these years later! Thanks so much! ❤️
I loved this song 33yrs ago when it came out and I STILL LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH TODAY !!! It’s just GOOD SOUL MUSIC !!! BTW- Steve Winwood was touring with Steely Dan before the Rona went wild. Hopefully we can all go to see them in 2021
I love to see how much you enjoy this song and Steve Winwood in general! I have been a fan since I first heard his earlier music with Traffic. I would love to see you listen to “Valerie”. Steve Winwood is amazing! You put a big smile on my face. Back in high school in the late 80’s had I mentioned that I love Steve Winwood I would be seen as a nerd. Well I’m a proud nerd! 🤓
Wherever I hear this song, I think of my Dad's voice in my ear saying you've got this. Especially the lyrics, " they'll be a day, you'll get there baby, you'll hear the music play, and you'll dance baby, you'll leave bad times way behind, nothing but good times on your mind." I lost my dad in 2008 and every time I hear this, I smile.

Jamel- check out “ I’m A Soul Man” by Sam and Dave and you’ll hear what I believe to be an influence on Steve. Also “ Shotgun” by Junior Walker and the Allstars. Soul classics.
The Memphis Horns, Andrew Love (sax) and Wayne Jackson (trumpet), on here and Sam and Dave hits. You've got a great ear and came to the right place. Both are gone now but still legends.
I like everything you said - & I'm glad you liked this song. It is very inspirational, especially as a reminder during tough times & done with such fun & uplifting (& yes, danceable) music. This is one of a few that I had in HEAVY rotation in the early days of Covid, when my situation was almost as bad as it could possibly get. (My situation is still not great, but at least it is a lot better than it was at that point.) 😌 Take care & love from Canada.

Absolutely Great song...!
"Mandolin Rain" ~ Bruce Hornsby is another.
Yes! Bruce Hornsby is a fabulous pianist. Sunflower Cat, Sneaking Up on Boo Radley... love them!
Yay, I'm so glad you got to this one. I'm such a fan of Steve, but this song is something else. I first heard it when I was 12 and it was released and playing on the video music shows on the weekend. I've played keys since I was even younger so when I heard those and the brass, it got my attention and I loved it IMMEDIATELY, even at that young age. Still loving it all these years later! Thanks so much! ❤️
My fave steve winwood solo track. Master of music.
I loved this song 33yrs ago when it came out and I STILL LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH TODAY !!! It’s just GOOD SOUL MUSIC !!! BTW- Steve Winwood was touring with Steely Dan before the Rona went wild. Hopefully we can all go to see them in 2021
Such a gorgeous video. The art direction, the choreography, the music, everything. Just gorgeous.
Thanks for doing what you do. Keeping great music alive and keep bringing encouraging words. Roll with it.
Absolutely am dancing! LOVE WINWOOD!!
Jonny Lang..."Lie to Me", Jeff Healy..."I Think I Love You Too Much"...Kenny Wayne Shepherd..."Blue on Black"
My favorite Winwood song.
Love this jam brother 💗. We feeling this great music 🎶😊
Yay 😆🙌🏻 One of my favs! 😍 loved your reaction!!
Thank you Jamal and for being who you are!
Joy to you and yours and may y'all be safe!
I'm keeping the music alive with you!
And yes, I was dancing in my recliner with you! 🤣
This is my all time FAVORITE song. Thank you.
Imma dancing and singing making cup of coffee 😁
Steve Winwood said his first visit to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival was the inspiration for this song and visit. Makes perfect sense to me.
OMG....took me back to our local saturday night dances... best of the 60's.
Steve Winwood is the man
Jamel- check out “ I’m A Soul Man” by Sam and Dave and you’ll hear what I believe to be an influence on Steve.
@@TallDocK thanks for the info!
Oh yeah 😎
Yes! One of THE BEST DANCE songs! No matter your mood, this WILL get the body moving. (Also, this makes me want to upgrade my speakers!)
(My situation is still not great, but at least it is a lot better than it was at that point.) 😌
Take care & love from Canada.
This song makes me think of simpler times. Thanks for keeping me dancing thru this quarantine time at home
This guy here is a great musical legend on our planet earth respect for this mans music and great life
Yes! Got to roll with it. Don't shut down or close yourself off from this world. The next person you meet or the next adventure might lead you to the best thing so far. Be open to joy!
And I think it's a homage to "Soul Train" dance line. Catchy as hell, love the brass.
Love the 80's and Steve Winwood doing any song, in any band, in any decade.
Steve Winwood in your ears and Rush up on the wall...... Excellent taste!!!
Speaking of Steve Winwood --- "Higher Love," "The Finer Things," "Valerie".........
Love your vids my brother!
I've been known to pull over on the highway, turn the tunes up and get out and dance on the side of the road!!! I love Steve's voice!!! I grew up wqith the fabulous, best ever music - the 60's!!! Back when it was sheer raw talent, not al the dancers and fluff, no synthesized crap.
Listen to everything-indeed! Music and life. Thank you
You always pick us up with good music and hope. Big thank you for sharing.
