    It is quite interesting how much more serious the video gets as it goes on longer. I feel like the fear of something like flying is because the mind has time to think about all the negative possibilities. Once Charlie had the distractions of trying to manage things, he seemed to handle his fears much better. Quite a cool experience, thanks Charlie.

    • @maddog9265
      @maddog9265 Рік тому +3

      yeah it’s interesting. subconsciously, a fear of flying usually has something to do with a fear of control. that’s why when charlie was mentioning how it doesn’t matter how many facts and statistics are thrown at his face on how he will most likely never crash on an airplane he is still scared bc it most likely has something to do with an underlying issue. usually once someone heals through said issue, that fear of flying will get easier to handle.

    • @maddog9265
      @maddog9265 Рік тому +3

    Flight instructor here: learning on a big liner like this is a hell of a way to get your first taste of aviation! Trainer aircraft are a lot less complex and more forgiving with all the various dials and knobs to navigate. It's a very common trait among new students to fixate on the instruments, I would often have to remind my guys to use their window and actually look out while they fly the airplane. It seriously makes a difference when tracking a course and keeping level smooth flight

He explains a lot of the fail saves in aviation in such a clear way. It really is about redundancy in aviation. For example, planes are designed so that they can actually take off, fly, and land with an engine not working.... in case of an engine failure at any point in the flight. I've been watching Mentour Pilot for a few months now and it is super fascinating and he has such a way of explaining things.

      Fun fact! Most twin-engine planes can climb on one engine, so even a single-engine loss won't down one. The ability of modern airlines to take a hit and keep flying is quite crazy. Modern jet engines need to be certified for bird strikes, most systems are double or triple redundant, and there is a giant binder(s) in every airliner that thoroughly explains precisely how to handle most accidents in the sky. On top of all that, traffic/terrain avoidance systems are very powerful these days.

    hey man, im a student pilot (23 hrs C172), and for some reason i used to be afraid of flying (i think from that one flashback in metro 2033), simulators made me realize naval aviation was my passion i never knew i had, and while it might be too late for that, never too late to get your wings! i hope you decide to go through with your PPL!
    Edit: figured id get buried underneath other comments, but since some people are seeing this; If you want to fly but think the only way is through the military or something else out of reach, i would really encourage you to look into flight training facilities around your nearest airports, you can schedule an intro flight without your student license or FAA medical and try it out!
