- Basic tutorial to help you get started making 3D floors in Doom.
(Also - sorry for the god-awful background noise in this video; I don't what's going on with my microphone atm.)
"those holes will now be filled"
:joshmong:
That was incredibly informative and concise.
Thanks
👍
I was pulling my hair trying to make a small enterable house with a bigger house behind. Thanks.
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the info! Quick, and clean.
Is it possible to have more than two floors, or the upper floor shaped differently to the one below it?
Of course! Create yet another dummy sector on the outer area of the map as you did before, using the same line action and tag (action 160, tag relative to the sector you're targetting) and then ensure it has different heights to the previous floor you added. :)
What's the benefit of creating the dummy sectors yourself as opposed to using the '3D Floor mode' tool that's available in the current version of UDB? Is it out of habit?
Honestly, I've never used the tool so I'm simply not in a place to educate anyone on the for/against.
@@Dragonfly_Doom Thanks for the honest answer!
This 3D Floor tool helped me make realistic water pools.
I would like to know if there are good (Ultimate) Doom Builder addons tools to extrude lines, even by the angle and extruded line length add/subtract. I did see one out there.
I am trying to find out (easy) ways to make Expert-Level Whiteboard test maps like 'Cryonology' and 'Rite' or the HURT wad, or do I just rotate my whole map to add the off-grid room?
Use stair builder tool while in linedef mode. :P
@@Dragonfly_Doom
Yeah that Stair builder tool is a "bevel tool" in disguise. It does have some few limits to it.
sorry for taking up your time but can you tell me what game configuration you used on that map? I couldn't find action 160 with the default game configuration.
No problem! I used "GZDoom: Doom 2 (UDMF)" format. Happy mapping :)
@@Dragonfly_Doom thank you
Hello, I'm sorry to bother you, I'm new to Ultimate Doom Builder. What commands do you use to copy and paste the textures on the beams to add them quicker, I find I'm quite tedious with the process. 😄 Thanks for your time.
When looking at a surface in 3D mode, press CTRL + C to copy the texture, then press in the middle mouse button (scrollwheel) when looking at another surface to apply the copied texture to the surface. You can select multiple surfaces and press middle mouse button to paste the texture on all of those surfaces. :D
how do you have the more complicated menu, i dont know how to enable it, if you know, please help, thank you.
When you say "more complicated menu", are you referring to the linedef options and how I have many more options available there? If so, you need to be mapping in UDMF format.
This is something you select when first creating the map, however you can change an existing map to UDMF by pressing F2 within UDB and selecting it from there. Just like any other format options, you will need to first set it up by telling it what IWAD to use, and what Port(s) it can be test with - press F6 within UDB to access these settings.
Hope this helps!
@@Dragonfly_Doom thanks very much
How many of this floors is it possible to impile?
Do you mean how many floors can be stacked above each other?
Theoretically there's no real limit, but I would advise careful usage of 3D floors as they can be quite taxing on the renderer, so you'll likely make the game lag too much before hitting any actual limits..
@@Dragonfly_Doom THX, very kind. No prob, I need max 3 or 4 floor in my project.
@@magnolerriccardo6840 Oh perfect, yeah you'll be fine then! :D
Glad to see ya coming back to YT :D
Also are you using GZDoom Builder?
"Coming back" isn't really the case, I never "left" either. 😅 The truth is I stopped Twitch streaming which in turn does mean less content from me. Regarding educational stuff like this, generally I'll post a video when I'm asked for help 👍
Regarding the editor, I'm using Ultimate Doom Builder here, though any of the modern iterations of Doom Builder would suffice for 3d floor stuff.
I just use the built in 3D Floors tool in order to build them. It saves time and is alot easier
The built in 3d floor tool is great and I frequently use it, but it has one problem: it is not zandronum friendly, due to the way it can generate floors with multiple tags within one sector, which is a feature not supported by zandronum at the moment.
I still use the 3d floor tool, makes things easier, but everytime I need to have more than 1 3d floor within the same sector, i have to manually edit the linedef to use a specific tag, instead of letting be autogenerated.
For later versions of gzdoom that's not a problem at all though.
Hey how come I walk I to monsters from the bottom and they are on top? How to I fix that?
I'm not sure I understand what you mean? 😅
I'm on floor 2 and monsters are below me and I'm somehow still bumping into them like they are up their with me but they arnt
@@josephkaneaster1053 You have infinite heights enabled. Use the options search within GZDoom and check you have "Actors are Infinite Tall" set to No, and "Compatability mode" set to Default.
Wow could be I have been taking a big break from it but maybe u have something here
Yep it was why thank u ☺️ I didn't even realize that silly setting was on in the first place
it isnt working, it made the floor but i can still see the original floor
Try again, this method does indeed work. Without the WAD you're working on, it's hard to diagnose your issue; but my guess is that you've not made the 3D floor's reference sector in the empty space outside of your map.
@@Dragonfly_Doom I figured it out but the wad kept crashing when I tried to test it
PLEASE!!! SOMEONE!!! I NEED EDIT HOTKEY!!!
okay okay, calm down... All you need to do is press F5, then go to controls.
