  • In this video I am taking you step-by-step through my process in creating an oil painting of a coffeemaker (Moka Express) of the Bialetti brand. We will go over topics such as painting metal, reflections and playing around with different type of edges.
❓If you have any questions or requests, I'd love to read about it in the comments. Please know that my materials are mentioned at the bottom of this text.
📷The reference picture was taken by me for the weekly hosted #foodpaintchallenge and you can find it in the community section and on my Instagram page. If you enjoy painting and would like to paint this coffeemaker yourself, be sure to check it out! Also, feel free to use one of the older references on instagram! All are free to use, and there is no consent needed when you sell your art works based on these references.

🖼️The surface I’m painting on is a small MDF panel by the brand “Muspaneel”. They are very smooth, so I always add a layer of gesso on it with. This creates some extra “tooth” and a lovely texture! After that, I put a thin layer/wash of burnt sienna acrylic paint, just to get the white off.
👨‍🎨The paint I use is a special oil paint (Cobra, from Royal Talens) which you can thin by using water instead of spirits. Other than that, it's the same as regular oil paint.
🖌️ For brushes I use the cobra brand brushes, and for smaller sizes I use Mus brushes.
🎨 On the palette for this painting:
    - titanium white
    - cadmium yellow medium
    - yellow ochre
    - burnt sienna
    - ultramarine blue

This was so great to watch! And really relaxing 😊 i'd be interested in hearing your "art life" story while you paint! How you got started, what you've changed over time, etc...

Thanks Dennis. I haven't really been inspired to do any painting for the last couple of months, but this got me thinking about it again. My last piece was a very similar coffee pot but with a bunch of lemons!

Oh I do hope you will pick up a brush soon. Perhaps start with something small to get those juices back into flow 😊. I’m sure you feel energized again when you start 🫶

Just realized you have a UA-cam channel. I have been following you on instagram for awhile now. I found you originally from Lindsey the Frugal crafter . I have yet to participate in the food paint challenge as I have limited time but I’m working on that. Thanks for the video.

I would be interested in your grid method for image transfers. And now....I feel like a coffee is needed.😂

Thanks Dennis I had a go - I didn’t have burnt sienna so used transparent red oxide instead. I took my time and I think it’s ok

Hi Annabelle, thanks for letting me know. I’ll make one 😊. The pencil is a “Pitt pastel pencil from the Faber Castel brand”. I used the white one for this, often I use burnt sienna too.
