I made my own mini palette by cleaning out an expired eyeshadow palette. The little pans were the perfect size for a small pocket palette, and it holds about 7 colors, which is perfect!
I've had one since my wife saw these adorable things. I dint think I'd use it. But it sits in my coat pocket with a brush pen and water proof marker. I'm doing speed paintings all over the place. As summer comes I see it increasing my art practice time
Ok… can I just say- I absolutely love the style and coloring of the people you drew (starting at 10:18). It’s so beautiful and aesthetic. I wish I could draw and paint like that 🥺✨🤍
I have been using a similar 15-cell pallete for one year. It has a hinge on the side and I'm sure the halves won't be lost. As for me, this pallete is suitable for 15x15cm sketchbook, bigger sketchbooks become quite challenging. I filled the pallete with basic colors in warm-cool pairs. Sometime I feel like I need some more granulating colors to creat textures, but on the other hand it won't work well in a small sketchbook. This pallete is definitely one of the best art supplies! During the cold season, when urban sketchers have meets inside museums and shopping malls, the minimal painting set helps to do really a lot! And no messiness!
I have to agree, they are adorable. Being practical and sufficient for a longer travel is completely another ask 😀 Wishing you a truly wonderful day ahead.
This set up made me paint everywhere i go, so yeah it works! 1 thing that made it easier for me is the wooden box with 4 mixing wells. It´s easier to keep the mixing seperate😅

I don’t do as much traveling but this would be fun to take with me along to work and just out wherever I do go. Also yes I’m absolutely excited to please have you do an updated version of your travel supplies!
The palette looks aesthetically pleasing but I think I'd prefer the Art Toolkit that has interchangeable pans in an even smaller footprint. I'm interested in your opinion on Art Toolkit vs wood.
The Art Toolkits are wonderful but very pricey compared to these little wooden palettes ($8 with the 1/2 pans). I give these as gifts filled with hand-milled watercolors as samples. My Demi palette is cute and tiny but cost $30.
I have a rectangular one of these (12 wells). I like it a lot, since I always use very small space for mixing, it was not a limiting factor, and I purposely chose one with 3 separate mixing wells to avoid cross contamination and to clean them less often. I chose to put less-lightfast colours in this pallete, since I am not creating any hangable art on location anyway, and I wanted to have an exuse to use them up. Another good point is that you can have multiple palletes like this with different colour combinations, and pick a different one depending on your mood/subject each day. Since they are small and inexpensive, I could set up one for nature and another one for cities. Many possibilities.
Yes, I am interested in seeing you swatch and set up your pastel pallet. Such beautiful art. I would love to see your urban sketching experience with these small pallets. Thank you for a great video. Do nit think the magnet will weaken. Enjoy the new palette colors.

However, I have filled the pans with gouache, which I use for my pen and ink sketches like watercolor. The GoDraw company has really well built palettes like these. The magnets are stronger and they are better built. They also make handmade tiny sketchbooks that are very nice!
I'd recommend learning to mix your own absolutely scintillating grays...it couldn't be easier, with some practice...and you'll get far far far superior grays that are custom mixed for your needs. And it'll give you more space for a wider variety of warm/cool. transparent/opaque, staining/liftable, and a granulating of your primaries and/or earth pigments...such as the transparent oxides and especially the magnificent Daniel Smith semi-precious gem line of paints that really are so special that they are hard or impossible to approximate by mixing ordinary pigments....Just my 2 cents...I recommend Jean Dobie's book, making color sing, it's where I learned most of what I know about mixing magnificent grays. I REALLY want to thank you for your suggestion of painting your supplies on that anxiety provoking first page! I suffer with that first page jitters, but now, thanks to you, I am really excited about getting started on my SO PRECIOUS new watercolor journal. I love what you did with it!
I bought the 15 pan palette and I'm yet to use it as I'm making a little sketchbook that can fit into my purse so it's all SUPER compact. Probably will use it more for thumbnails and artwork ideas rather than detailed artworks of their own. Your video was super helpful for things to consider and what to watch out for.

Those are cute, but I prefer the Art-Toolkit demi-palette with 12 mini pans. It is also tiny but the pans hold more paint and you can switch out your colors.
I’ve been thinking about getting one of these because I have toddlers and I want to be able to paint around them more but can’t risk my whole pallet. I thought even if they swipe a brush over everything it won’t take too long to fix, especially when compared to a full pan 48 set. I’m not huge on water brushes but I definitely want to try it more because the couple of watercolorist that I see using this pallet successfully all use the water brush. Thanks for all the tips I’m excited to try this out soon.
I think the pans being permanent is both con and pro. It forces you to use up the material inside, and also leaves very little room to lose a full color like you can with the removable pans. I lost my Lemon WN cotman lemon yellow for 5 MONTHS after my cat knocked my palette off my table and pans went flying everywhere!
you should try putting magnets or blue tack on the bottom, you can still remove them from the palette but they will be more stable and stuck together, sometimes pans can rattle around too and this fixes it
Oh these are so cute! But also seem super gimmicky haha. I just reuse an old eyeshadow palette as my compact travel palette. What do you think of the Hahnemuhle sketchbook? Is the 200gsm enough to actually hold up to watercolor?
I got one a similar small (very flat) wooden palette a couple years ago and thought it would be perfect but in reality it warped 😭 probably because I live in such a humid climate and I use it outside It also didn’t hold enough paint for me and the almost non existent mixing space was frustrating. I do think they could be great for certain artists but def not for me sadly 🥲
This is a review for a rip-off of the original, by an artist known as Go Draw, who has their shop on the Inspire Uplift selling platform where we bought ours from. They also have a channel on UA-cam which shows some art done with their products and some snippets of the production process which is very interesting. We made a big comment about all these rip off reviews and it'd be great if people would complain they'd been misled, get a refund and go buy from GoDraw, and this channel appears to have deleted it! The original comes very well-oiled and yes you will need to re-oil it occasionally. Storing it with those silica gel packets which absorb moisture may aid you also.
I only use watercolor for quick washes and I only sketch roughly for ideas on the go and then bring the ideas back home where I start to use acrylic for a proper painting, I think for that it would be perfect but I don't think I can use it for a fully finished watercolor painting
Hi Jess, your videos are amazing! 😻.. I got curious about the sketchbook you’re using for the colours swatches, what is it? 🙈 .. thank you so much for reviewing the palettes 🎨😻
I have never been drawn to the wooden pallets. Small pallets yes but not wood, plastic or metal seem much easier to clean and maintain. I do not understand why many artists do not clean the mixing areas of their pallets. OK if you are not finished and want to pickup the same painting later, sure keep your mixes. For a new piece I want clean mixing areas.
Great video, I just have a question... How long will the colors from the tubes on the palette last... If I put them on the palette with a lid... how long can I use them... Thank you and greetings from the Czech Republic 🌞☀️🎨 🖌️
Hi. I was just wondering - is there a difference in performance between dried tube watercolour and using the watercolour that you buy dry in pan? Also is there difference in performance of the tube paint if used wet from tube and if used after drying in pallete like the one in video?
Just wondering what the creamy white colour was in the smallest palette, I'm super curious about it as I haven't seen a watercolour that tone before? I'd really appreciate the name of it please.
I have a similar 15 color palette, the origilnally invented and made by Go_Draw. It's more expensive, but a much better quality. The magnets holding the two sides are very strong. I had both so I could make a comparison. I was able to change the colors in the wells on mine . When the paint in the well is completely dry, i could use an exacto knife to carefully loosen it and just take the whole watercolor cake out. If it becomes too dry and loosens by itself while you still want to keep it there, just a drop of krazy glue will keep the watercolor cake in place
YES ! The original is by GoDraw, has a YT channel and sells their products on the Inspire Uplift selling platform where the artist has their shop and my wife bought hers from.

The key to having colors that last, and make less of a mess, is using the hard-pan paints. I was in California at the same time!! From Montréal-Canada to San Francisco and we travelled by the coast to San Diego. Funny 😊
Thank you for the review 😊
What a fun video and fun palettes. I wonder if the water will ruin the wood body over time? 🤔
As a small artist in malaysia, its actually pretty good.
I only use watercolor for quick washes and I only sketch roughly for ideas on the go and then bring the ideas back home where I start to use acrylic for a proper painting, I think for that it would be perfect but I don't think I can use it for a fully finished watercolor painting
Great idea! thanks for sharing and for watching!
Could you please do a Christmas theme watercolour cards. Would love to see your take on it.
Thanks for watching!
I would love to hear about your current travel kit. I seem to carry far too much so any advice is appreciated.
Will do! Thanks so much for watching! its all a learning process on how much to take, its just definitely a puzzle to narrow down
Love it jess
Thanks!
Very Well--Done! Just found you, and your inspiration! Thank you!
Thanks! Welcome to the channel!
Theres no way if you are studying and learning that the entire class is as good as you are.
I think you dont understand how talented you are.
I just got the 15 space palette on Amazon for $10. I already have the porcelain Etcher round tin palette.
W0uld love to hear about your travel kit. Enjoyed this video very much.😊
Awesome! Thank you!
Cute palettes!❤
Wonderful work ❤❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you 😊
Hi. I was just wondering - is there a difference in performance between dried tube watercolour and using the watercolour that you buy dry in pan? Also is there difference in performance of the tube paint if used wet from tube and if used after drying in pallete like the one in video?
I am waiting for jesstober release
Where can I get these palettes, please? Thank you this looks great.
I thought these small palette were for really small watercolour sketch books to do very small paintings.
Where can I buy this? 😊.
Etsy is where I got mine!
@@artofjesskarp Thank you 🙏
I wish I have that small palette 🫤
Where can one get these exact palettes from. I don’t like the ones that come with the well raw wood
I got the small one for my bday on the 16 oct😅
Just wondering what the creamy white colour was in the smallest palette, I'm super curious about it as I haven't seen a watercolour that tone before? I'd really appreciate the name of it please.
I think it's buff titanium. I use the Daniel Smith brand and it's indispensable❤ in my palette.
@joywhitley3141 thank you 😊
I have a similar 15 color palette, the origilnally invented and made by Go_Draw.
Can you link where are the 15 pan palette is from
I got it off of Etsy
GREAT VIDEO!
I am soooo happy u finally posted cause its been so long🎉❤😊
Has it been that long? lol thanks!
I may have missed it but where do you buy the tiny magnetic watercolor palettes from?
This is a review for a rip-off of the original, by an artist known as Go Draw, who has their shop on the Inspire Uplift selling platform where we bought ours from. They also have a channel on UA-cam which shows some art done with their products and some snippets of the production process which is very interesting. We made a big comment about all these rip off reviews and it'd be great if people would complain they'd been misled, get a refund and go buy from GoDraw, and this channel appears to have deleted it!
Worth it
I like your video very much. Can you please test the FUUMUUI travel brush?☺
Do you have a palette for beach and marine tones you could share?
ty u have mah like
Sweet 😊
Very interesting video 😊😊😊
Thanks!!
I use the 8 pan one and it was like 4 dollars
didn´t the gauge leaking in the pallet? it looks like a gap between the two tiles.
