      First time here , quick question can the noise of the heater be a problem ? In case you’re trying to be left alone and people follow the sound, toughts?.

  • @krismiller5474
    @krismiller5474 2 роки тому

    I was surprised initially you didn’t have quilted curtains inside your tent. With the heater, they are less necessary. I’m going to be going out in mid March for the first time in colder weather in the PNW. I’m too nervous to about not having a fail safe with my heated clothes. Will consider a diesel heater for the future. Thank you!

    • @michaelhawkins318
      @michaelhawkins318  2 роки тому

      It would definitely cook me out of there if I had any insulation. I do always have safety gear that if I lost the diesel heater that I would still be comfortable and safe without it. I think relying completely on one source of heat would be a bad idea.

    Those diesel heaters are the best thing ever in my book. Makes my 17 ft camper as warm an comfortable as being at home. I bought the cheapest 1 on Amazon 4 yrs ago and it's still working great. On low only uses 4 to 7 watts an about 1/3 of a tank of fuel in a 16 hour span.

    Getting stuck in the snow freaks me out. I couldn’t do that alone. Just curious do you have a back up plan to get help if you get stuck.

    • @michaelhawkins318
      @michaelhawkins318  2 роки тому +1

      yes, I have a good amount of recovery gear incase of a stuck situation and I try to stay close enough to a road that will have at least 1 car go up it a day so that if i needed help someone would find me in a day or so. This area has a good amount of snowmobilers so I figured I wouldnt die just might put myself in an awkward situation. lol Its scary being out there alone in a snowstorm but I had a blast and am going to film another one next week if this storm comes in.

  • @peterkinberger9741
    @peterkinberger9741 2 роки тому +1

    Very interesting video though a bit short. In a way that is good but more discussion is needed along with demos. I wonder if air space can be enclosed over the tent and staked down into the ground with expandable poles ? Like using a massive tarp with rugged vinyl winows going over front windshield and extending about eight feet past the rear of the jeep ? With insulation layers and a big buddy furnace or even a woodburning stovepipe furnace. It would help dry out locks and door handles. With a pyro-electric generator made by Goal Zero an engine blanket or warmer could even be possible. It may be possible to use the Goal Zero pyro-electric generators to warm up the place and recharge an electric generator. I try to think of benefits of the Jeep having protection along with the people inside.

      Thanks for your Input. My mind has sooo many ideas for the future haha I am going to make detailed videos about a couple topics in this video like the diesel heater and different style rooftop tents. I also need allot of practice video editing and mainly filming.

  • @rayherriott6517
    @rayherriott6517 2 роки тому

    Why is the diesel heater set up to heat cold outside air? You will be much more efficient with another hose going from inside the tent to the diesel heater air intake.

    • @michaelhawkins318
      @michaelhawkins318  2 роки тому

      Well, considering that I can only leave it on the lowest setting all night I would say it’s efficient enough. I have heard that if you have it recirculating, it can make it humid, but bringing in the dry cold air from outside and pumping it into your tent is better I guess. I do think it would be more efficient if you recirculated, but I think in most cases for rooftop tents it’s better to bring it in from outside.
