I have been testing out this diesel heater and I have found it works really well besids a few hiccups. I have camped in snowstorms and very low temps with this heater. Its a great way to stay warm while winter camping. maXpeedingrods is the brand. Link to amazon where i bought mine. www.amazon.com/dp/B08596LY1M?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I headed to the top of a mountain for some epic winter camping. I used a diesel heater to keep me warm and had a very cozy trip.
Hi what campground? Looking for one that I can use my RTT.
What model and/or size cooler do you use to transport it?
wow great stuff!
Warren Miller did a great speech about how he and a buddy camped out in the Mammoth parking lot c. 1950 for the whole winter.
Awesome
Hello. I just got one of these units in. It came with a box of all sorts of items. Even some kind of short piping and tool. The instructions don’t mention those at all. What did you figure out with all of the extra parts? Appreciate it.
Two questions. Did they improve bluetooth connectivity outside of LTE range? And what output ducting did you use? I'm seeing lots of complaints about different products melting.
Bought a cheap diesel heater and with new controllers/boards still nothing but error codes. Just ordered yours for twice the cost. Lesson: buy once, cry once 😀
I have a cheap diesel heater and this one that’s just a little bit more expensive but I have not had a problem with either of them. I do run it on full blast for about 10 minutes before I turn them off every single time I heard that’s good to burn off any carbon buildup.
@@michaelhawkins318 I was going to turn it up once a week. It arrives Saturday 🤞🏼
@@michaelhawkins318 it's absolutely amazing - the quality of the parts, accessories and manual. Literally added diesel, hooked up the exhaust/power and ran the automatic pump primer function and - boom - *heat* 5 minutes later 🔥☺👍🏼🔥 ua-cam.com/users/shortsXH2fjfJhl1A
I was surprised initially you didn’t have quilted curtains inside your tent. With the heater, they are less necessary. I’m going to be going out in mid March for the first time in colder weather in the PNW. I’m too nervous to about not having a fail safe with my heated clothes. Will consider a diesel heater for the future. Thank you!
It would definitely cook me out of there if I had any insulation. I do always have safety gear that if I lost the diesel heater that I would still be comfortable and safe without it. I think relying completely on one source of heat would be a bad idea.
If you have money to throw I just order this silent diesel pump from this guy in the uk for like $185 or something, i’m sure you can find it on youtube his name is james I
I have heard of those. After you do some testing, I’m curious to know if you like it.
Great video! Excited for the next adventure!
Did you install a fuel filter? I just got one and was recommended to me to install a fuel filter but there isn't much room for one
Sound like levditti.. I don't know if you were on this trip or you just sound like this guy but I watch his channel too and both of you guys are awesome
I will look the channel up right now. Haha I don’t know if I have seen it. Thank you!
Great video. Glad I found this! I’m coming up with a 4x4 Sprinter (Revel) looking to do something similar.
if you ever want to link up and do some winter camping, let’s do it. That will be such a fun build.
Did you air down?
Yes, but not enough. The Land Rover can’t air down too much because of the low profile tires and I could have aired down more in the jeep.
Great video!
Thank you!
Just ordered mine off Amazon. What sort of problems are people having with this unit?
Oh, good to hear they are back on Amazon. They were sold out for a while. I have no idea, but I know mine does not connect via Bluetooth when I don’t have phone service.
Great video! Just curious- have you thought about getting a winch system on your Jeep? You might find it handy
Baby steps haha
WOW MICHAEL great video, beautiful spot! etc. really enjoyed this! question what was your plan if you got got stuck and didnt have the trusty LR3 to tow you out? love this content! love alabama hills! most importantly i love you kid!
The plan was because I’m driving a jeep and not a LR3 that I would not need to be towed out. Thank you for watching. I really appreciate your support. I love you.
@@michaelhawkins318 it would seem so but i believe in the video before you in fact did need to be towed out by the beautiful elegant lr3. wont be watching again!
AWESOME VIDEO! TOPA TOP GEAR TO THE TOP!!!
My guy!
What trails were those? Looking to camp in mammoth next month? Great video!
Thank you! it was off of SawMill Trail close to the village.
Land Rover? Ugh 😂
Lmfao Tell me about it.
Why is the diesel heater set up to heat cold outside air? You will be much more efficient with another hose going from inside the tent to the diesel heater air intake.
Well, considering that I can only leave it on the lowest setting all night I would say it’s efficient enough. I have heard that if you have it recirculating, it can make it humid, but bringing in the dry cold air from outside and pumping it into your tent is better I guess. I do think it would be more efficient if you recirculated, but I think in most cases for rooftop tents it’s better to bring it in from outside.
Cool videos to watch :) May I ask what tent you guys have and how it holds up?
Thank you! The rooftop tents are made by Topatopgear. It’s a company, my buddy and I started it and we are just testing out all of the tents. If you are in Southern California and interested, we can definitely hook you up. So far they are holding up very well and we have put them through some pretty extreme stuff.
Great spot. Nice setup. Look at my setup for Australian conditions Cheers Out There Touring
Thank you. I will check out your channel.
Rad video
Thank you!
@@michaelhawkins318 love the diesel heater setup
@@jonnytacooutdoors it’s so nice to have. It definitely limits your space because I have to travel with a second cooler just to have it around but I think it’s worth it.
Good video! May I suggest, air down more in the snow.
Thank you. Yeah we were definitely running too high.

Question. IF you did make it to your camping spot having your clearance problems with the present snow level, what's plan #2 if you camped and its snowed another 10 inches overnight?
The idea was that the new snow is usually pretty light and fluffy so we figured we’d be able to just plow through it even if it was a foot or two. It was also supposed to be a lot colder this entire trip and it ended up being very wet snow which made things a lot harder.
Call AAA🤣
Did a snow plow not come during the night seeing as you are on the road, and not off to the side?
So the main trail was plowed for the electric company to get to the polls, but where we were camping was an offshoot, and it was pretty deep.
@@michaelhawkins318 looked like fun.

Where did you get the longer more solid ducting in the longer lengths?
I literally tied two of the ones that I got with the diesel heaters together. I have not found a good long one that works.
@@michaelhawkins318 I found 300cm ones on AliExpress that I just ordered cheap
@@CWYCOUGH123 very interesting! I have never ordered anything off all AlliXpress. I will check it out. Thank you.
I’m having such a problem with mine. Considering returning it. So just to verify…you are running yours on setting 1 at the 104* temp on the app where you dial the temp up? My outlet air temps are only 78 and my tent is only getting to 44* with outside temps at 25*. And that’s on setting 5 full blast.
@@CWYCOUGH123 I will have to check my app next time I use it. The last couple of times I was out of service of the app did not work. I haven’t had any issues though.
Great video I appreciate you
Thank you! I have a couple more videos coming soon from some winter camping I did the last couple weeks.
What was the toughest challenge in your sojourn? Where is the zone? I haven't watched the entire documentary
I would say the toughest challenge was the anxiety of the unknown. Trips like this things can change pretty fast and you really never know what’s going to happen. Hey, it’s the Sierra Nevada’s by Yosemite area.
I just ordered mine. I have one of Maxpeedingrods inverter generators and have had really good luck with it. I’m interested in giving their heater a try. I’m going to upgrade the fuel lines, add a filter and pump when I get it. I think they use the shit green line. Interested to open it up when I get it.
I opened mine up before I used it because I was curious. I dont remember what line they use but it was very tight in there.
Lost me when he called the jeep a car.
hahaha I actually heard that too and thought it was pretty cringe of me.
I’m very not into the vans or campers or busses because they constrain you to very decent roads. This set up I’m into!
I agree! This is the main reason I went this route. I didn’t the extra fear of getting stuck with a oversized heavy vehicle.
Михаил ну ты прям настоящий северянин..лайк
I give it my best shot.
Great video! you have a new suscriber from Chile 🇨🇱
Thank you! more fun stuff coming
Where did you get the diesel heater at?
maXpeedingrods 12V 5KW Air Diesel Heater I got it on amazon but its currently unavailable.
Thanks for the great video. I have the same model and would be very interested to know if you managed to decrease the noise of the volume pump. Thanks
I’ll make a video on the diesel heater that I did quiet the pump for. I removed the pump from the housing and built a insulated box for it. That was the only thing that seemed to work. I don’t know what to do about this one yet because I like how compact everything is.
If you replace the pump with a quieter pump it will make a difference
Hello, please can you tell me the name from youre disel heater? i try to take a look of the type and name in the Video, but it dosent work. Tahk you very much for that informations
maXpeedingrods 12V 5KW Air Diesel Heater. I made a separate review of the diesel heater, but it seems to be unavailable on Amazon right now.
Those diesel heaters are the best thing ever in my book. Makes my 17 ft camper as warm an comfortable as being at home. I bought the cheapest 1 on Amazon 4 yrs ago and it's still working great. On low only uses 4 to 7 watts an about 1/3 of a tank of fuel in a 16 hour span.
I agree they are so amazing. I’m going to Mammoth this weekend and it’s going to be 4° but I have no worries I will be warm.
An excellent test of stamina and endurance for the true adventurer👍👍
Cool thing go have around!
It’s definitely a game changer.
We just did 6.8 f this last week. Heater for the win too!! Looks like you’re set up too. 😎
Sheeesh that chilly. I am planning to hit some trails in Mammoth next week and it looks like the low is going to be down in the single digits. Where are you located?
@@michaelhawkins318 I’m in western Canada. Deep in the mountains, high altitude, it gets cold! I have a video dropping next week!
