How about having Ben do his very first blindfold challenge. You can have him compare guitars with solid sides and backs to laminated ones.
YES, THIS
Or between rosewood, mahogany, ovankol, sapele, maple etc.
Blindfold Lee and have him guess which are laminated, which are spruce, which are rosewood, cedar, etc, while Ben plays.
trainspottery now, back to actual music...
@@daddio307 "So many choices.... lol! So few opportunities.' TBH I don't mind laminated backs and sides. I have a 1976 Gibson MK35 (all solid) and a Moondog Spirit.... solid spruce top and laminated Rosewood/Balsa sides and back. Both are superb.
remember one thing. price doesn't make you play like that guy.
It will inspire and enable you to get there though.
So very true!!!
no shit sherlock
Hahah yep
My absolute favourites are the parlors. Comfortable, good sound for everything. The lack of bass end does not really bother me. Even for straight-up chord strumming I love the mid-rangey punchy sound of the parlors. And it cuts so nicely through the mix.
Also: acoustic archtops are even better!
I always assumed John Mayer songs were part of the audition for Andertons
Still a great player though
Ben just strummed couple of chords and everyone just melted and forget to ask anything ...
I don't get the John Mayer thing. Sure he has the skill, but it's all so blaaaaaand.
@@boudicawasnotreallyallthat1020 because he singlehandadly "sold" more guitars, then all "metalheroes" from 2000+ combined ...
Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande probably outsold any musician out there. Doesn’t mean it’s quality music.
@@jaymacdonnell4730 Im talking about Mayers impact on GUITAR salles, not his albums 😘
I do love my electrics, but there is nothing quite like the sound of an acoustic in the right hands
I've been watching and enjoying your channel for quite awhile. I play acoustic guitar, primarily, so it's very cool to see you covering acoustic guitars. Please continue to do more videos like this.
The new Paradiso shows are rapidly turning into some of your most useful shows! Ben's great, lovely playing and a huge range of styles. Thank you.
FANTASTIC. I didn't know all of this about the different sizes, thank you!
I just love this guy.
What a great addition to the channel.
And thank you for great content.
Ben is such a Legend man great addition.
Jake Grover Guitar he needs to be better at expounding on ideas.
Couldn't agree with you more. He's a mega talent in my book. Love his playing
Great time here, that OM is beautiful. Would love to have heard a 12 fret OO in the mix.
It really is a joy seeing & hearing Ben play! Now I want an L00.....
This guy is an incredible acoustic player
I think he's wonderful. Great touch, great technical ability and a fantastic ear. Not to mention the tasteful playing.
Great video and wonderful playing from Ben. More from him, please!
Loving your new acoustic vids! Keep 'em comin' gents!
This is yet another awesome video thank you Anderson's!!
Ben is legit the best guest. Super great.
I love this new series with Ben and Lee...more please
Awesome riff, playing the D18 (17 mins, 30 secs into vid) . Gonna deffo have to do a tuning, and tab lesson on that one Ben!
Nice playing, again, dude 😉👍
Possibly one of the best reviews I've watched on this site. Closed my eyes and played the final comparisons over and over. Ended up torn between the 00 and the 0M. In the end, the 'rawer' more mid range sound of the 00 won me over, although owning both would be very nice. It would be interesting to know if there are significant tonal differences between guitars of the same model, from the top manufacturers.
I like Ben. Would be cool to give him a few slots on his own & let him develop his own thing.
I wonder if Ben is a fan of the late, great Mike Bloomfield, the blues/ragtime stuff reminds me of him. Never fancied an acoustic myself, but I do enjoy listening to someone who can really play one.
... super helpful to be able to hear these body styles back-to-back - thanks! :-)
Not even really an acoustic player and I appreciate this vid
I have a folk size .And I love it .Had it about 7 years now .Only an Alverez but it just great .Sounded better than anything else under a grand and plays great .
I can't get enough of the Anderton's Guitar Gang. So fun to watch all this talent and commeraderie.
Ben is such a fantastic addition to the Andertons line up
I bought an OMJM a couple months back. Love it more than anything. Has a great sound. Strumming sounds phenomenal, bluegrass sounds phenomenal, fingerpicking, open tunings, anything you throw at OM styles sound good.
My first decent acoustic was an OM size that I got as a teen, and later as a teen I got a better Dreadnaught. I’ve been playing dreadnaughts ever since and it never occurred to me that a smaller guitar might be more comfortable. They feel fine to me and sound great, as I mainly play with a pick and want something I can strum hard if need be, yet still can sound good for finger style or hybrid picking. I’ve thought about getting something smaller, like a better OM or an OOO, but I have to say, this video makes me want to look into a Gibson 00. Love the sound, and it’s a great contrast to the dread sound.
Great review Captain. I really like the informal coffee time style. I want to get a smaller guitar than my Seagull dread for the couch and its good info to choose between the parloud and the 00M. For recording also there is so much mud to get rid of with a dread. Thanks!
Great video guys! I wanted to also add that I loved your modern eagle video
Where the Light Is DVD - Stop This Train, Free Falling, Daughters, Neon, In Your Atmosphere
This speaks greatly to the versatility of the OM shape. Very balanced tone.
All of them sounded great, though.
That was just real nice ! Much appreciated !
Nice review and awesome performance!! I like OM-28 standard which is in spite of narrow depth body, it has low end and beautiful high end. I am not big guy, so it is comfortable to hold. Besides I do not use an acoustic guitar in a band. I always play an acoustic alone and sing so I do not need more low end such as Dread or Jumbo type. I like koa tone as well especially playing single notes.
What a nice selection.
I love them all, every one in its own special sound and look.
Finally, my demands for more acoustic paradiso have been heard!
Oh my dear what an enjoyable and informative video. Killer playing too.
Part of the increased power and volume of the dread and jumbo result from their being built to handle heavier strings, like mediums (.013s), so you can strum harder without overpowering them.
Hadn't seen/heard of about you until today. Your guitar inventory is amazing! Do you only send high end guitars?
I recently purchased the martin D15M and I fell in love with it 😍 ❤️
Nice to hear some acoustic and to get out from your studio
Some kickass Johnson-style chops there, mate... And on that 3rd one, there was a bit of Tallest Man on Earth on the first run. Pretty dope.
Love the acoustic guitar vids!
Very nice presentation. The lack of ear-splitting shred was a nice change of pace. :-)
What a fantastic player. I was not playing a UA-cam video expecting to be genuinely moved.
Granted, these are all seriously good guitars . But they sound absolutely wonderful in Ben's hands. Great touch he has. Love these new acoustic vids 👍
Beautiful playing 👏🏻
Wish you would have done a few Taylors - especially the Venetian cut. Very popular but hard to know what's what. Great stuff guys -thanks!
Had to laugh. My parlour is sitting on my couch, my OM is lying in its hard case beside the couch and my dreadnaught is sitting beside my work desk for instant access.
And damn, that dude can play.
I have a pre fender buyout Guild DV 52 Dreadnought. LOVE it! Sounds like warm butter! That said, I don't think you could go wrong with any of these. They all sound good to me! My buddy loves the sound of my Dreadnought, but hates playing it. He generally plays smaller bodied acoustics.
LOVE this new acoustic backdrop setup..............nice...........
Ben can play! Looking forward to hearing more about what he has to say too.
I do love myself some good ol' parlour guitars. That Gibson sounds lovely. The jumbo sounds good too, though!
This is one damn good video! Exactly the kind of comparison I like.
Brill demo loved it .learnt a lot ..love the parlours having a Gibson J15 burst which I love ..nice to have a parlour for solo instrumental work ..Great playing to ..not showing off to ..nice chap to lol xxx
Re watching this after 3 years. Bloody hell Ben your weight loss is unbelievable. Great playing
Loving that boys picking!
I have three guitars ....and they have different sizes. The parlor I mostly use for fingerstyle blues in Open D or D minor, the OO for regular picking and strumming in standard tuning or full step down. And the Grand auditorium is for slide blues in Open C and other alternate tunings . I don't have any issues or complaints:).
Great Video... ! For me always the low midrange will rule the game. And also the more comfortable -smaller- size-. That doesn't mean I would skip the restaurant before the couch.
Awesome player! Great video!
Great video. Love the John Martyn! What about a Grand Auditorium cutaway in this mix?
I love what you guys do!
The 200 has a lot of clarity due to the maple back/sides. Pretty close to the OM, at least on my headphones. I'd be interested in hearing a mahogany jumbo up against the OM. Great video!
My dream acoustic guitar... Gibson SJ-200...
Btw Ben plays insanely well. Great guitar player.
From Leo: Thank you for this demonstration. It is not often you hear the different guitar characteristic side by side played with familiar acoustic styles. PS. I am of the mindset that a man needs one of each, now I have an excuse to purchase one more.
The little parlour was a surprise to me. It has beautiful clarity and transparency.
I began my guitar journey with a cheap dreadnought. My father bought me a second hand Tanglewood two years after, I also bought a second hand Epi LP a year before. I sticked to a dreadnought some time, because I really loved (I still do love) their sound... But I had to sell it and go after something smaller. I am not a big woman (1.60m) so I began looking for info and tried some guitars (I discovered all mahogany guitars with the Sigma 00015, I finally bought the cutaway version 4 months ago). I didn't have much money, so I got a cheap blue 000 for 60e, then a Tanglewood Union Folk, which helped me a lot during lockdown. Almost 15 years after, I wish I had all 4 shapes 😅🤣. I got really in love with Gibson L00s and Guild Troubadours, but dreads and jumbos... They are amazing. Thanks for sharin guys!
We approve of Ben. He can stay :) Enjoyed the video.
That was nice. I've owned two various make maple blonde jumbos. They're my favorite. All in all though, I think it sometime comes down to where you fit in an acoustic ensemble mix. What's your part?
I’m a die hard OO fan but I have to admit that Gibson J200 sounded great . Really good video 👍
Ben has a great feel for blues! I love it! :-)
Ben is one of the best guitar players that I've personally watched and heard. I'm envious.
I want to see you guys do a review of the Epiphone Starling acoustic guitar. I think they punch above their weight class and would love to see if you agree. Thanks and keep the videos coming. Best UA-cam guitar channel by far.
I have a small body gibson L1, and that thing is a sound beast. It just has more twang, less bass than the larger dreadnought and jumbos.
The 00 has been one of my favorite guitar sounds for a long time. I just love the punchiness it has. The dreadnought has a lot of nostalgia with it, since so much music has been made with it, but I've always felt it was just a little TOO bassy for me. The 0M has a nice balance, but I would definitely put it behind the d18, and the j200 is my least favorite of this selection. It has a hollow, self reverb sound that I'm not a fan of.
Once again, however, Ben proves to be a highly capable player who makes all of them sound great!
The rosewood SJ-200 guitars sound far better than the maple ones.
I also prefer the 000/OM.
I found the dreads always had a slower response if that makes sence. Plus they are a little too big for me.
Great playing! Would love to hear some Tony Rice licks!!
Beautiful Martin sounds.
Would have loved to hear an acoustic arch top for a comparison.
I would like to see a video where they talk about what strings they would put on each guitar and why.
Don't let Ben leave Anderson's as an employee, the guy is a great player! OM is my favourite, got a 00015m and it's great. Previous dread owner, I simply prefer both the look and feel of the OM style. I do miss a bit of volume though, especially on higher strings, up towards fret 10 or 12
I have an Alvarez parlor that I bought 4 years ago (
Imagine a band with Ben and Pete. Ye gods. Guitar heaven.
4 great guitars (although I preferred the OM, maybe because I have an OM!?). Just makes me realise I need to learn to drop tune and asks the question why did standard tuning become standard for acoustics when dropped tuning sounds so good!?
well played, sir. well played.....
Would be cool to have a visual audio spectrum in this kind of videos
Need to do a video on how different pickups up for acoustic guitars with different amps sound on each size. I wish I had 10% of Ben's talent.
I love listening to a real artist like Ben playing a acoustic guitars
ben is so freaking good at this.
Great video
I bought a Collings C10 about 10 years ago and rarely ever played my Taylor LKSM 6 since
My Franklin Jumbo is louder than anything else I've heard. When I used to teach at the Yamaha Music School it was louder than eight kids playing together; I left Yamaha, by the way, because you can't teach guitar to eight kids at a time; someone loses out. I was getting €96 an hour, so it took two years to convince myself that this was a shit situation for the kids. Now I do only one-on-one; way less money, but more satisfying, and I don't feel as if I'm ripping somebody off. By the way, acoustics used to arrive at Yamaha two dozen at a time; I used to check them for set-up and playability before selling them to the kids; never found a dud, and a few guitars, the F-310s, which is what we started kids on, were actually exceptional. Good video. But John Mayer? LOL,
What is the tune at 17:33 !! It's so beautiful !!!
the Martin OM-28 Modern Deluxe is the guitar of choice for me
My only acoustic for 15 years has been a Fender Malibu, which is a Dreadnaught shaped guitar but in the size of a Parlor and definitely close to the Parlors in tone!
Smaller body guitars definitely have their own vibe with how focused they sound :)
When I need a bigger sound I actually prefer Grand Auditoriums, they sound like OMs on steriods and really comfortable for me to play as an electric player! Dreadnaughts on the other hand are not all that comfortable to me
that Jumbo sounded incredible! Really gives Springsteen vibes :)
Listening through a pair of high-end headphones acknowledging that UA-cam compresses quite a bit, the D-18 sounds most balanced to me closely followed by the OM. But man - would I love to own all of them.
And yes - you found the right guy. Now he just needs a few years to develop that sick Andertons humour that makes this channel so great 😘
wow.OM sounds most ballanced an best to my ears just like its explained to be by many
I’m very fortunate that my nearest music shop is -this- Andertons outlet. Covid19 just needs to bog off so the store can open its doors again.
what's the Martin Ben is playing after the Gibson sunburts? OM ? the reimagined one or standard? the link takes you to the 28 standard but to me the one Ben's playing looks different from the standard. so, which one is it? I need to order it through the website !!! The very same one! HELP!
there is also a weird outlier version of the J200 that they mad win the early 60's that had a tune-o-matic bridge! while it's generally reviled and dismissed by the folky purists, it was THE iconic Brit rock acoustic, being used on The Who's Tommy, Jeff Beck's Truth, Led Zep I, and of course on The Beatles Here Comes The Sun. to me that's the holy grail acoustic sound.
That "Robin Hood" chord. It's a sus4 resolving to the 5th (power chord)
