Me too. My first home PC with internet used dialup via Trumpet Winsock and Netscape probably version 2.x if I had to guess. I used Netscape 2.x and 3.x on my own Mac later on, and I recall using up to Netscape Communicator 4.x on both Mac and PC.
Awesome! I was a college freshman in '96 and this release was installed on our campus computers. I really miss the days of Usenet, web 1.0, and BBSes, before the Internet became a mass commercial medium that harvested user data for sale to advertisers.
I'm keeping an eye on a project called RetroNet which seems to be an idea for a private network which will allow for the use of old technologies. I'll also be doing more videos with a focus on 90s web because I miss those days.
I born in 2001 in chile and i am a person that pretty likes this stuff also i wish i could have memories of the 90's because mi parents always tell me histories about that time and i like it so much plz never end this.
I'm in my 40's, worked in IT my whole life and never recall Netscape Navigator coming in a box, damn. Could be the "old" kicking in. Gotta love "InstallShield Wizard" from the 90's.
Back in those days I figured most people just FTP'd the version they wanted, or had loose floppy disks. I don't recall ever seeing boxes either but I wasn't really looking.
LOL my first thought too, was if I was able to purchase a brand new, sealed-in-box copy of Netscape Navigator 3.0, I would want to keep in sealed as a collectible. The nostalgia is off the chart, and brings back memories of of a simpler time. 🌊
Now that brought back some memories! I remember having to specifically ask for Netscape to be included with my first Mindspring account back in 1995, I believe. Oh, if only I knew how much sadder the "online" world was going to become as people transitioned from BBSes to the web, inviting an influx of non-computer people to eventually lead into the cesspool we now call social media. At the time, however, it was exciting.
I figured it would work. Software is software. If you install it, it will function. Then there's the little tricks in between. For the most part though, tricks aren't necessary.
I wish Mozilla would someday buy back the rights to Netscape, re-name Firefox to Netscape Navigator and bring back the throbber animation, at the top-right corner. No.... not Netscape Communicator. "Netscape Navigator".
The way how third parties are seeking access to everyone's information these days (via Google Chrome), I'm getting off the radar and using Netscape Navigator. I predict a major breach to happen with Google Chrome. Something that offers GPS service and all this other helpful services stuff, is bound to rebound into bands of network thieves.
From a time where there were no facecrap, instacrap and the likes. One could discover and learn new things everyday.
23 year old asked me today what's netscape? Sent him this video. Each one teach one, thank you for keeping it real for the young youth.
Netscape was all I used in the 90's - Thanks for unboxing it brought back great memories

@@netfreakcanada same here. You either downloaded it via FTP, BBS or Usenet. Paying for a browser in a box? Crazy.

True. As much as I like many of the conveniences of today's web, I'd almost prefer going back to 90s Internet.

Probably worth more in the unopened, packaged box than it was to buy it and open it...
