Damn, that timing! Thanks for doing everything you do, brother 🤙 been following you since the early days of Helldivers 2
I need a good pvp guide that explains melee combat like this. How do parries and blocks effect the opponent, what’s worth learning the timing of, what you should be trying to setup, etc.
@@Slaxckson it’s def different than pve from what I can tell parries don’t stun the opponent but do negate ALL damage but with no Stam the opponent can keep mashing attack and if they have more health you are stuck parrying over and over till they give up. At least that’s what I can tell so far
Thank you for this video, even though I'm max level with bulwark I switched to power fist and chainsword but this video definitely got me reconsidering this sword.
The problem with bulkwark is that you're constantly in melee range, you're taking damage from all directions unless you're backing up into a wall , so there is no time to NOT swinging the sword - if you don't keep the block up constantly. This is why i think that a combo system based on mashing the same button is bad... there's a 3 button combo, and a 4 button combo, how the game going to tell if you wanted the 3 button combo ?, you're going to stop fighting for 2 seconds and wait to see if the game registered that you wanted a 3 button combo ? - meanwhile you have 20 tyranids trying to rip your face off.
I’ve noticed when you do the sprint attack with speed style, if you have time to wait just a second you’ll see your guy pull a cool stance and if you attack after a bit he’ll to a jump combo. Very helpful in 1v1 Edit: now in the second half of the video and he is explained that. I will keep this here for those who forgot from watching😂

There is a damage difference in pvp, you kill with 3 hits in power stance and kill with 4 hits in normal stance, since powerstance is slower it makes sense for pvp.
best weapon is best weapon I really want that 1 handed power axe our deathwatch brother (rip) had at the beginning of the game in the first cutscene. I love how he gets up and clunks it over his shoulder the weight of everything the space marines are really hits in that scene.
A guide on how to properly use shield bash with melee combos would be great. I find shield bash to be fairly useless due to its extremely short range. At the same time, maybe it has its uses within certain combos. I find I forget to ever use it at all on most missions, and even with the extra stun perk, it seems to not work.
Ironically I was forced to use this class because the vanguard class was taken which I was liking, and I found the sword to be so fun. More so when you got “I’m still standing” space marine ai version playing on loop while you take on an army alone. Clunky works with this class if you throw caution to the wind and just let loose. But that’s my opinion and experience playing it for like 6 hours now
Hold melee right after dodge and you will switch style is the bread and butter of this build considering you can infinitely chain melee into block into dodge so u can switch stance and keep doing damage at the same time.
Dont suppose you've ascertained how much of a plus or negative the swords (or any melee weapon really) are that have the +/- to Fencing/Block etc? I've not seen anything that really tells me what the pros and cons are, but i assume its got something to do with the parry/dodge window maybe?
Fencing will extended the window for parry while block has the shortest window to parry and will generally just block the attack instead of parry, while balance will be somewhere in the middle doing both based on your timing of parries , I'll look into making a video based on the specifics to see if there are some tips to throw in about the timing with each!
@@Shaabhekh You first need to understand that there's a regular parry, and then a perfect parry. Regular parry is when your timing is a bit off, but you still stop the damage: you might get pushed back/stagger a bit depending on how heavy the blow would've been, but you'll still prevent all the damage. A perfect parry is when you time it just right, and it does that slow-mo/zoom in, you parry, and force the enemy back (against trash mobs it'll instantly kill the target, and do a knockback effect on any other ones that are right near you). This also often triggers a gun strike on tougher enemies (only the tough ones, since it instantly kills weak trash mobs), but not always: it seems like you won't get the gun strike if you parry in the middle of some attack combos, since they'll keep going into the next attack. There are also a lot of talents/perks that proc when you get a perfect parry, such as dropping a shock effect on Bulwark when you do. With that out of the way, Balanced is, well balanced. Block weapons can't perfect parry at all, they only do the normal parry. Fencing weapons have a larger window to get a perfect parry. To prevent fencing weapons from being the obvious best weapon, block weapons tend to get a stat boost somewhere else (like str/speed/cleave potential), while fencing weapons usually have a slight stat loss somewhere when compared to a balanced weapon.
@@kedolan4992 - wow, thank you for that info, very helpful. So when the weapon shows an upward arrow and 'Fencing' in green, thats actually replacing the 'balanced' stat of the weapon then? On a somewhat similar topic, the Warriors with dual boneswords; i tend to have trouble parrying one of its attacks - i 'parry' upon seeing the green circle but usually the mob doesnt actually do anything, it jumps back then does what looks to be a heavy attack/lunge which is followed up by 2 or 3 quick attacks; is the idea of the parry circle to parry the split second you see it or are you supposed to time it to some degree? appreciate any info/advice on the matter - ta again for the response.
@@Shaabhekh Yeah, when it has the Fencing next to balanced, that's saying your current weapon is balanced, and the new one you're looking at is fencing (or block, if it's a block weapon). As for when to parry, there's a slight delay after pressing the button, before it actually does the parry: your marine will get his weapon arm ready, then do a swipe motion across the front. The swipe is the part you want to connect with the enemy attack, so it requires a little bit of knowledge of the enemy attacks, etc, to time them correctly. As for that back jump ability in particular, I don't think you can get a gun strike/stagger off that one, or if you can it's a very small window. But parrying that attack will prevent you from getting hit by the attack, at the least, which lets you react to the follow up attack and attempt to parry that.
It's so strange that strong stance power sword has far more Crowd control than the power fist and thunder hammer. Those heavy sword sweeps can control an entire horde with ease. Not only that but it is faster and more movement during the combo.
I do have a question, the artificer sword seems to break combos really easy, like holding the left stick or wasd would lock you in to the first hit, do you have this problem too?
One thing that I dislike is the one perk where you will increase damage up to 30% using the more single target focused damage bonus since if I’m using it against a single enemy and then I want to switch I feel it just goes away too fast
Lol everybody says "just hit the pause screen and you can see your combos", but not ONE youtuber has actually explained what in God's name these symbols mean. I understand the attack icon, but why couldnt it be more clear? What the hell does the broken shield icon mean?
Best advice is practice makes perfect, if you go to customize your class you'll notice and icon that says trials click on that and it will have a few short missions that are timed trials these can be perfect little training grounds to just jump in and try to parry attacks from a small group. Beyond that I would say work on timing and any time you see the blue circle pop up hit that parry button as quick as possible, also watch for key strike from the majoris that don't have the blue circle, as some will require you to parry twice before they get a gun strike such as the tyranid with 2 blades and the one with the whip. lag also can play a factor and sadly that one will just be a real pain to deal with!
I suggest going into the trials the first one to be specific focus on nothing but learning to Parry perfectly. Trust me bro it's a rhythm once you learn it you can't forget it.
I saw a video about this. Due to the shield, pressing the parry button makes you block at first. You essentially have to double-tap it to parry as Bulwark.
@@ALUCARDTWILLIGHT i dont know why but the only class i have trouble parrying is te bulkwark, the others just seam to work right for me ( playing in substancial and the hardest dificulty without trouble)

Something to consider and think about but I don’t know if that applies to pve as well. Has anyone tested this further?
Are you by chance using the purple rarity sword? or one with low speed close to 2, I had an issue with those swords that happened the same way I would only do the first swing and no combo and the only way i was able to combo was by not moving while I attack so I would let go of the stick and just press r! and let the attack guide me forward until I got to the legendary swords, bit of a headache using that sword but worth it for the legendary!
For me, the problem is that I just can't do a parry to a gun strike from majoris enemies. I'm using the fencing sword option, that is supposed to have a bigger parrying window, but still blocking everything or often even take damage despite pressing block in time. just can't get that parry. Im the end. The only way to get a gun strike is a perfect dodge...
Idk I just tried using it which is the main reason I wanted to play bulwark because I don’t like the chain sword but I feel like I wasn’t doing damage compared to the chain sword the chain sword felt much better at doing damage which 😂is frustrating because I want to really use the power sword
Nice video. I have a problem with it though. I play on mouse and keyboard and have rebound the melee attack to E. Thus holding the W-key for changing direction while I mash a combo with E. However. When i do so with the powersword it inconsistently stops doing the combo beacuse I'm holding W. Which is very annyong. It's not yet fully upgraded. I don't lknow if that has something to do with it. I'm currently using the purple fencing option. Is there anyone else with the same issue?
I consider myself a relatively decent player, and i got *serious issues* learning the combo system... it's like no matter what i do, my bulwark just continue to hack & slash tyranid , i don't see any combos. I mean, the power whirl... swing, pause , swing ?... nothing happens.
I just feel like it doesnt do enough damage, I'm using a Blue Tier balanced sword and it takes like a good 10-12 hits to kill a Warrior on Substantial Difficulty.
Yeah that's because they made it so the largest power jump is going from Artificer to Relic (that's for all the weapons not just the PS), which is weird (most games don't do this). It makes the weapons feel like complete POS until Relic tier and makes the initial grind very grueling.
1.) the parry for the power bulwark is different from other classes because of the shield he blocks first then parries - from Tony Coast 2.) Thank you for the information
Step 1. Swing sword Step 2. Realize it takes 4+ hits to take down a single minoris enemy. Step 3. Wait for balance changes. I'm oversimplifying it but the balance in this game is completely screwed up. 30+ rounds to get a Majoris to be executable, 4+ sword swings for a minoris. It doesn't feel good being forced to play nothing but parries and gun strikes no matter what class you play.
Agreed 100%. The entire delusion by Bulwark mains that they are helping at all in terms of damage while on Ruthless is hysterical. Lightning/Shock builds are… o-k. But their dps is worse than an Assault with a chainsword spamming double stomp combo. Most Bulwarks not drinking the koolaid and just leveling the class recognize their primary selection sucks and just spam plasma pistol, parry counter and gun strike or hide behind the actual people doing damage so they can steal the execution to stay alive when their Banner is on cooldown while never even engaging a terminus enemy or a zoanthrope extremis. At least for Ravenors, Bulwarks make good chew toy distractions.
@TheFearsomeWaffle just finished leveling up my bulwark and I completely agree. My Vanguard does way more damage and is way more survivable, not even accounting for superior mobility and surprisingly excellent team utility. Bulwark is my 4th lvl 25 character and so far it was the most painful to grind up.
@lackadaisical4734 yeah they really need to buff how much contested health bulwark heals with the sword. but bulwark heals from 0 to 100, not just contested health.
i would say stuff isnt good or bad. Then i did the research and practiced.. crazy how when you take the 🤡 makeup off shit becomes clearer. Every weapon has insane potential with classes… just do the research and test out stuff. its not hard. Bulwark class is straight GAS and the sword FUUUUUCKS
It doesn't make a lot of sense to me during big fights since you can't really see what style you are in after just a couple of mins of chaos. Pretty lame way to do it IMHO. Considering a Juggy can't switch weapons, I don't see why they didn't just allow him to switch styles with the change weapon command and let you have a true power attack. Compared to other classes, the Melee classes are far behind the power curve. They can't help much from longer distances and get overwhelmed too easy when they go charging into things. I gave melee combat specializing classes a good honest try and they just can't keep up with the other classes.

The mechanics for this class, is not something you (55+ older players who are fans of the tabletop game) can just easily use for average gamers. That being said, I think the best thing to do. they should get rid of Perry on the class and focus on block. It does have a shield after all, and block should override Perry. The difference is holding the left bumper and tapping it for that is something that gets in the way of a lot of Close combat fights (as the class is known for) if you’re holding block with a shield, I don’t believe it should be broken so easily as it does. This class should only have blocks and executions no Perry and our blocks should be much stronger.

Artiface Fencing sword is too slow a speed stat to do combos.
You have to just tap the block button and you will get the parry animation
"ThE cLAsS GeTs good OncE YoU mAx oUT thE lEvel"
Idk I just tried using it which is the main reason I wanted to play bulwark because I don’t like the chain sword but I feel like I wasn’t doing damage compared to the chain sword the chain sword felt much better at doing damage which 😂is frustrating because I want to really use the power sword
Taking away parry from this build is what killed it for me
I mean, the power whirl... swing, pause , swing ?... nothing happens.
i wish the sword could be unlocked for more classes.
How do you activate the power swirl
BRO HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO YAP BEFORE YOU GET TO THE VIDEO
WHAT A STUPID COMMENT WHEN YOU CAN SKIP TO TIME STAMPS
How do I do the sword slam?????
1.) the parry for the power bulwark is different from other classes because of the shield he blocks first then parries - from Tony Coast
2.) Thank you for the information
well its convenient you have to be in a match to view the combos while paused...
Figure out how many hits it takes to kill or stun each mob. That is critical in this game. No extra swings
Do you guys think the bulwark will get the power axe?
Gotta work on the parries to master the bulwark
He said utilize 5 times in 20 seconds…..
Step 1. Swing sword
Step 2.
Bulwark is all about survivability, it does the lowest damage for a reason it can full heal every couple minutes.
@@ArthaxtaDaVince777 Or i can play heavy and be tanky, deal a shit ton of damage, and full heal from a single Melta shot
Be nice if at least vanguard could also get power sword, I liked it a lot in campaign.
Fck the power sword. All my homies hate the power sword. (This post was made by fist and chainsword gang)
Having finishers interrupted by minions .... is INCREDIBLY Frustrating! Make it stop.
F*******k. There's different styles? I really need to do a training mission or something. 🙁
@@8654ZuluFoxtrot I just wasn't even aware. Lol. I dove into some co-op with a buddy having no clue. The vid was enlightening, and I'm clearly going to need to read up / dig into the finer points. I do like that point of changing styles with change weapon. THAT I would have noticed.
Every time i connect and hit quick match it throws me into searching infinitely, if i hit u and try again then it throws me in again but with no option to hit u this time and eventually it tells me i've been booted to offline mode with error code 140 and then even though it says you can go back online from the main menu, this is a lie and there is no option for that and i have to restart the whole dumbass game to try queuing again and then it does the same thing.... anyone else having this issue this morning? DONT BUY THIS GAME
Unfortunately yea I run into this issue a decent bit on Xbox. Usually only after/if I leave a lobby. Have to reset the whole game to play online again. It sucks but I like the game enough to deal with it till it’s fixed fully. Has been happening pess
how can I bring up this menu with the combos ?
Press Esc.
@@ShizMist I did several Times... I have seen only 2 Times this menu. Maybe it is not accessible only in campaign mode ?
The mechanics for this class, is not something you (55+ older players who are fans of the tabletop game) can just easily use for average gamers. That being said, I think the best thing to do. they should get rid of Perry on the class and focus on block. It does have a shield after all, and block should override Perry. The difference is holding the left bumper and tapping it for that is something that gets in the way of a lot of Close combat fights (as the class is known for) if you’re holding block with a shield, I don’t believe it should be broken so easily as it does. This class should only have blocks and executions no Perry and our blocks should be much stronger.
Ok so there's the explanation. The game does not tell you any of this.
You're playing Space Marine 2 on a Play Station?? Poor guy, cant even enjoy the game properly.
I still dont understand how to do the special ability. I have done it by accident a number of times but cant figure it out to do it deliberately
