  • Shiyo! I set up the tripod frame for finishing up this braintanned deerhide. Smoking a hide is the final step of braintanning. Once complete, the hide can now be used as a piece of material to make a plethora of items including Moccasins, shirts, womans dresses, childrens clothing, leggings, breechclout, bags, fringe. If you can dream it, you can make it! If you are interested in utilizing the Ancient clothing material of your ancestors, but do not have the time to tan your own hide or do not want to do the work, Taylors' Authentic Traditions has you covered! We offer braintan hides in our Etsy Shop! Click, Add to Cart, Pay and we ship to you for free! 100% Natural, Creator made, Taylor's Authentic Traditions worked! Sgi🙏🦅

Fascinated with native culture. I have many hunters and I believe they field dress them. I don’t hunt unless necessary and the waist seems unsettling. I will give this a shot and a keep my fingers crossed

I'm a archery hunter and I butcher and process all the meat myself. That being said I hate the waste that even I allow. I work full-time then come home butcher and desilver like a fool for hours and hours. I'd love to have the time to process the hide but I didn't know I could smoke it to retain the leather! So hopefully I can process it next deer season

@@benrent6625 Shiyo Ben, producing Indiantan or aka Braintan was a skill almost every individual knew how to procure. It was necessary as this was the only material for clothing unless one finger wove clothing from plant fibers. Once one has a proper understanding of the process, it goes well. We use absolutely everything we can, even down to the marrow. If we can be of any assistance in helping you with your next hide. Please dont hesitate to reach our, we are here to help!🙏🦅

Shiyo 1865! The world today loves to waste and therefore we have these massive garbage dumps all about us. If we are resourceful with mother nature, she will be resourceful towards us! If we can assist you at all in your hide tanning, please reach out to us. We utilize all natural methods that involve absolutely NO chemicals. We tan hides the ancient way! Sgi🙏🦅

@@TaylorsAuthenticTraditions thanks for the reply! I always try to make time for the hide-but takes me to long to process the meat! Im getting faster at the process and I feel next season I'll get to the hide in time. Have you done any videos of the entire process? I've seen the one about removing the hair-i mean the brain tan and all that jazz. Keep up the vids my friend-u can make a difference in this world if we all just try

@@benrent6625 Shiyo Ben! That is my hope that this channel will be a positive change in the world. Your words are truth. I recently dropped my phone off the sailboat and it currently rests 10' under water. It had my sd card with all the rest of the process. I will be filming and editing new content very soon! If once you remove your hide, you can just simply rub salt into every part of the hide, be liberal with it as salt is very affordable, and ensure you rub that salt into the outer most edges which tend to curl up and are easily missed. A hide that is salted and the. Stored on a pallet outside under a tarp where air flow can get to it will last for over a year until you get time to tan it or you can roll the hide up and freeze it to preserve it and this way will last indefinitely until you have time to work the hide. Freezing also produces a softer hide as the ice breaks down the fibers. I hope this hos oginalli! Sgi🙏🦅
