    Thanks. It was honor to me to meet several times Mr. Larry in 2015 with native boys from his neighbourhood. I do deer braintannig here in central Europe after these lessons. Now I know how to do it , but still would have a questions to my mentor. Unfortunately it is not easy due to the distance. Thanks again . Good health and God bless to Mr. Belitz.

    I so wish I had this when I fleshed out my Buffalo hide. A knife worked in my hands, not so much in the hands of an self proclaimed buckskinner. Everywhere he "helped", I ended up with a hole in the hide. I just finally thanked him and said I think I've got it. Lol.
    I really like the scraper with a small metal blade, as it glides. This flesher makes the joints in my arms hurt from the repetition. But boy do they work.

      Great question! If the membrane and fat layers are not removed, the brains cannot penetrate the hide fibers this resulting in a complete waste of time and effort. The removal of the membrane and fat permits the brain oils to penetrate the hide fibers thus moving to the next step in the process of braintanning.
