I love how straight to the point ur videos are!
Thank you for making this video. I'm a high school senior, and our art teacher left at the end of last year. Due to the shortage of teachers, they've been having our music teacher teach us. We've mostly been doing small craft projects meant for elementary schoolers. Due to this, my art skills have been stagnating and my enjoyment for the subject as a whole has decreased. Finding your channel has brought back some of the joy and excitement of an art class to my life.
I'm so sorry to hear your art teacher left, that's so difficult when you want to learn. I am glad my videos are helping! Please let me know if there are topics you are interested in. Thank you so much for your comment!
@@JenniferFunnellArt I'm trying to get better at drawing objects and furniture, if you have any methods for that type of thing I'd love to see it.
That really stinks. I loved my high school art class. I think art classes are so important. Don't give up!!!
Man, your school really failed you. I wish you luck in your future artistic endeavors!
Thank you so much, I'm very green. In fact I am going to put brush to canvas for first time ever!! Nervous but feel frawn to it. Wish me luck!! : )

Me too first time
I started with watercolors about a year ago. Been thinking about acrylics lately so I decided to look for a video of the basics and you did not disappoint! Great video, thanks :D

❤Can’t tell you how much I appreciate this video. I am new to Acrylics but have fallen in love and was having so many questions and thoughts about how to court this new passion! Your simple, clear, direct delivery of information and demo was A+. I have subscribed for more! ❤

You are a wonderful and generous teacher!

3:18 thanks for the tip! Sometimes I didn't know how to blend, in fact u should use two brushes at the same time. Helped me a lot!
Thank you very much, this tutorial was useful and vital for me, since I am planning to start acrylic painting soon.

Thank you so much!
This was genuinely very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for this. Every other vid was some annoying person talking to camera about things they would be talking about if you continued watching their series of videos. You actually dived right in to the basic techniques I wanted to learn.
That's my goal! Thank you!
Thank you so much as someone who just started using acrylics from markers this is very helpful ^^
You're so welcome!!
I have been painting with arcylic for a year now and i did not know there’s a product for glazing.. i use water to do the ‘watery effect’ hahha im so glad i saw your video. Super informative thanks so much!!
You're welcome. Glazing medium is a great product to have on hand!!
Extremely informative video for beginners. 👍🏼👍🏼
Jennifer, you are an excellent teacher.
I am sharing it with my nephew.
Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Awesome I'll try it out
Could you do a blending with wet on dry? And also how to blend edges into another colour like a cloud, white to blue
I can make a video on that. You can do some blending with wet on dry, but because acrylic can't be rewet/reactivated it's best to use techniques like dry brush or scumbling to get softer edges that appear to be blended.
Amazing!
Thanks so much! 😊
really helpful, thank you!
@@ash-kq2sc you’re welcome!! ☺️
Wonderful video
Thank you!
I loved the video! Question! What are you using as your paletten thingy? Is it just a paper? Thanks teach ❤
It's palette paper! I often use it for acrylic painting. This is my fave Strathmore 9x12 palette paper, plus it's on a pretty good sale right now on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B00CPD0O1U?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzjen0426b-20&creativeASIN=B00CPD0O1U&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.1PPE5XTDAFULE&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ons_d_asin&th=1
Thanks for the video! just I wanna restart painting with acrylics after a long time
You’re welcome! That’s so exciting you’re getting back into it. Let me know if you have any questions!
good video I like that
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
Thank you ❤
You're welcome!
Hello should I paint a transparent background before starting to paint? Is it necessary
It's not absolutely necessary. I like to for several reasons, the first being it gets a color on my surface and it's no longer white. From there it serves as a middle value, allowing me to block in light and dark values. It can also create a mood in a painting, especially if you let it pop through a little bit between brush strokes. I also like blending on top of a layer of paint, it's like a primer or ground. But ultimately, it's your choice. Hope this helps!
youre soooo coool aaaaaa
No you are!
I'm trying to make my strokes look unique do you have any pointers or artists I can watch?
Check out ua-cam.com/channels/q0aO3G_UiDSmNHM9n0PaSA.html for some fun ways to explore brush work.
My tip is to keep painting and try out lots of different brushes! I like to use big brushes first, then save any small brushes for last. Moving your brushes in different directions, different pressure, amounts of paint, etc. are all variables that can help change up the way your paint looks on the canvas. I like to get a sheet of paper and just try some stuff out, that way when I start a painting I have some sort of starting point of what I like and I also figured out some things I don't want to do in the process. Hope this helps!
@JenniferFunnellArt thanks so much! Idk why I didn't think of the paper thing
I tried getting a crisp edge but I'm getting the texture of the canvas preventing it being as sharp as I'd like. Do I need to prime the canvas a few times, if so what would you suggest. Thanks!
Canvas does have a texture, which is why I often paint on cold press watercolor paper or wood panels with acrylic. However, if you layer gesso or a thicker layer of acrylic over top of your entire canvas you can create a smoother surface. Then try a crisp edge. Sometimes I put a tiny bit of water or glazing medium into my paint when I'm trying to get a crisp edge too, it just helps the paint flow a little easier. Others don't like to add in anything and will try different brushes and/or keep loading their brush up with more paint.
@@JenniferFunnellArt Thanks for such a detailed reply. Much appreciated.
@@anewcareerinanewtownyou’re welcome!
Drawn to it
Thanks!
Why, when i paint a layer of light colour, let's say white over a dark colour, let's say dark blue or red, i keep on seeing the colour underneath? :(
I'm going to be installing an interior into my cargo trailer, scheduled to arrive in April, that's based or inspired by the Victorian Era Industrial Design style. Along with that I'll add a few accessory touches of Steampunk gears, pipes, gauges, and the like. I just bought some acrylic paints to figure out and learn how to make realistic metal gears from wood. Completely out of my realm of experience! This first video is helpful in getting me started. :-)
Different strokes for different folks
my teacher made me watch this
Awesome! Hope it helped.
Although it says “for beginners”, there is nothing in this video that tells me how to use the techniques she is rushing through. She assumes I know various terms she is using.
No help here.
Sorry it wasn't helpful for you. This video has helped many of my students learn some quick and simple ways to use acrylics.
