Why do you call it Knox country and not county?
I found the toilet paper house about a month in to my first world (third character). I legit looked in every container wondering if there would be anything else because I didn't know what was going on, there was not.
Funny enough I found a second toilet paper house that I sadly didn’t record. It was at the gas station in Rosewood so both the shop part and the house upstairs had at least 300 toilet paper rolls combined

@@NotScrakes Actually while playing yesterday, I finally explored every house in the suburbs of Rosewood. Literally the last house I searched was a second TP house in the same world. The first was in one of the farm houses south of Rosewood. So both of them ended up being relatively close to each other.

Fun fact (lore fact) about the survivor houses. The reason the people in the houses are all zombies is because there were two waves of the Knox event virus, the first wave was through physical contact, blood/bites. The second wave was airborne and a small number of people (Player Characters and NPC’s) were immune to the second wave for whatever reason. The second wave happened a few weeks after the initial wave so the survivor houses were people who managed to last long enough to gather supplies before becoming infected to the airborne virus.
The immunity to the zombie virus could’ve come from a lot of things, but I think that it could be that there was another strain that wormed it’s way into Knox County prior to the Knox Event that was much weaker than the current strain, and thus went unnoticed; and that (somehow) the antibodies produced by the immune system of those affected by the weaker strain, were somewhat effective in defending against the strain that reanimated corpses. And the “weaker strain going unnoticed” thing is even further supported by the fact that prior to zombification, those who were infected experienced influenza-like symptoms; meaning it could’ve been around much longer and they just thought it was another flu-strain.

@@notsusanna7485 just got around to looking through my YT notifications, and I have to say… I’m adding this to my headcannon for the Knox event. I haven’t even considered the idea of a weaker strain prior to the main infection and it works so well.
correction regarding NPCs: while build 42 is going to add the baseline for NPCs *to be added,* they won't be actually added until the build after. The base stuff being added that'll let NPCs *work* is also being used for the animals.
I hope we get to see the NPCs before 2030!!!!
@@spooky7048 most likely! Build 43-45 is when human npcs are suspected to be added though unconfirmed, and since 43 is being developed at the same time as 42 we will find out much quicker

22:05 Actually, Bob & Kate is in the game. They can be found in a burnt down, barricaded house somewhere around Northern Muldraugh. Not sure if it's a guaranteed event or random chance of happening. Both Bob and Kate can be seen as zombies and those can be indentified by Bob's bald spot and bag, and Kate which sometimes spawns as a dead person or a crawler.
The fact that she might spawn as a crawler is so sad, like she got injured and can’t walk :(

While Annotated Maps do indeed stack as "Annotated Map", they can be renamed. I usually drop all, pick up one, name it, pick up another, rename that and so on. Takes a little time but it's 100% worth it!
Goddamn it, how could I miss this? Now I have crates and more crates full of unnamed annotated maps. Thanks man.
You could click the drop down icon and read/rename them w right click if you’re holding multiple
I usually mark my map with the annotated map info wish there was a copy map feature
YES! That's what I do, Rename courtesy of what the map is intended for and the Loc.

I believe the helicopter its possibly a news/military helicopter trying to get coverage/out of the zone and is having a hard time deciding either save you or leaving you to your fate
Makes me slightly less pissed at them to think that two people may be arguing about saving me or not but still screw them

@@uhtred7860 Honestly in the current build it feels more like them flying over, thinking there are no survivors, only to find you. The last survivor in the Knox quarantine.

If they landed, who knows what could happen. The entire helicopter could be contaminated and could spread the virus. It's safer to just watch, and then leave.
You are a worthy sacrifice to keep this thing from spreading further.
@@phoenixmarktwo We aren't the last survivor, there's tons. Few percent of KC being immune translates to a few thousand people - they're just invisible because NPC are a loooong way off from being implemented - only existing in game as a distant gunshot or a scream.

Hunting knife while riskier than axes or crowbars, are good at fighting large groups of zombies since they take much less stamina to attack with.
If you set the game language to Brazilian Portuguese (specifically), the traits "Clumsy" and "All Thumbs" are both named "Desastrado". Because of that, in the trait menu, if you select "All Thumbs", go to the character creation menu, and then go bakc to the trait menu, the All Thumbs trait will appear for you to select it again, replacing the Clumsy trait, even though you have already selected it. I haven't tested if it does affect you in any way nor do I know if it still works (since I found out about this not-so-recently but not-so-lately), but it DOES give you more points.
Project Zomboid is the closest thing we have to a proper 28 Days Later game
The "fence-crate-fence" combo can be defeated since crawlers can attack fences.
And for the same reason building a line of cars with fences to block zombies from crawling unter them does not work.
But crawlers can't attack window frames. So by building a line of window frames and lining it with cars and wrecks you make an impenetrable defence.
A theory I have on how the virus started. The Dog Goblin or Goblin Dog (forget which) is the only movie that gives negative moodles to the character and in the lore there was a meteor shower a week before the outbreak or something (and the Goblin Dog was said to be like an alien). There are also kennels in the one research center in Louiseville which a lot of people say are sus. We also can find dog houses and dog food which can potentially be a groundwork for either pets or another enemy (especially if it turns out it originated in dogs). There was also an incident on either the TV or Radio where a family tried to flee or something or get past the quartine zone and they only shot the dog.
NGL I believe that it jumped from Dogs to humans and with the intro to dogs (I think) in the next patch and basements we may get even more lore. And when the new area releases, as the intial outbreak area maybe located there iirc as the smell in the air or whatever came from that direction and there maybe more military bases too iirc.
But anyways: We also know there are two strains to the virus: The oral and airborne (the airborne is why is spread across the world and spread past the lock down zone and is probably the weird smell in the air mentioned). Our character, and presumably several NPCs in the future, are immune to the airborne strain for unknown reasons. By the time many escaped to louiseville, many who weren't bitten or encountered the dead started having symptoms or turning which is when they realized it was airborne but it was too late by that time. Iirc it was like 98% of people were infected and only like 2% were immune.
I speculate though that cattle were the first to be infected, either intentionally or unintentionally, and thus the virus was put into the burgers. It was mentioned that farmers or conspiracy theories reporting cattle were eating each other in the fields. If the cattle had their meat made into spiffo burgers and distributed thsi may have acted as a means of vaccinating the public without mass panic if intentional, or if unintentional created some people who potentially regularly ate spiffo burgers into having an immunity to the airborne strain (which has the ability to cause infected to still be able to infect the person via biting even if thats not how they contracted it). Its probably because the burgers, if cooked properly, would kill the active virus and may over time acted as a vaccine. Also Spiffos is located everywhere, is the mascot of the game and is 100% located in the started cities (I can't recall if other areas have one nearby/in the city limits)
The undercooked burgers is what was speculated/joked in the fandom to have caused the initial outbreak as the burgers would be laced with the virus thus improper cooking wouldn't kill the virus (which many vaccines are made from a dead virus of the exact strain or a lesser strain/alternate strains of the same virus can still give some but not total immunity to the virus your trying to avoid, iirc). What supports this is someone saying on an annotated map, iirc, that one spiffos manager kept a shotgun in his office, like he knew what was coming. So this supports that it may have been intentional or a last ditch effort by the government to immunize people without mass panic (or the manager saw what was happening to the cattle and feared it would jumped to humans). Also spiffos, iirc, may have shown up only recently before crud hit the fan.
The dog who may have been 'patient zero' may have actually ingested a contaminated spiffo burger (as some people give their dog leftovers right?) and its possible the strain that infected the cattle may have mutated to easily affect dogs consider you have dogs that gather cattle, are working dogs, predator dogs like wolves who may eat infected cattle and strays who may eat left over/dead animals to survive. They all would be probably easily exposed to the virus and it may have jumped back and forth between multiple species (or dogs were the starting species if the Goblin Dog being 'real' is a thing).
The Scientists may have been researching infected dogs as they are easier to get into a facility (or they were of most concern due to the general public being more exposed to dogs than cattle) and it wasn't until one of their own K-9s got sick and potentially bit their owner (who may or may not have said anything cuz horror movie logic) that it made the leap between dog and humans (especially since biting is a way it is transmitted and if it made the dog aggressive it would be more likely to bite than livestock would).
Zombified dogs and cattle may not initally be implemented due to it being something hard to balance if raising a farm and dealing with undead (like do the undead try to eat animals like the walking dead, iirc, or just go for the same species? Would it mean you need to clean blood regularly in the pens otherwise the animals could get infected? etc).
But idk this is just my theory along with some tib bits/speculation on the lore. I mean, there is dog references everywhere, even in top secret bases, and no dogs so I don't see why it wouldn't be more important, especially since it appears they kill dogs onsight at the gates and were experimenting on them...
Hundreds of hours of playing and I never even heard of the video. Makes me wonder what else might be completely undiscovered.

Devs confirmed zombies only attack humans so farming is gonna be a bit easier because of that, my theory is similar to yours, dogs and cattle get infected but instead of going zombie they become carriers, since the devs are adding working masks it might mean they have a bit more significance such as adding the susceptible mod into the game, and what would a better way to add a reason other than normal zombies to have a mask then dogs and cattle that infect you with the airborne strain if you pick a susceptible trait (also one more thing, for the cattle eating cattle I think you might have misunderstood that one? It is in the game but the only one I’ve seen says it’s people feeding cattle to cattle)
@@noahdaanimalguy7673 a way they could add masks without completely altering gameplay: make it possible to survive airborne infection. Otherwise, not having a mask would practically be a death sentence.
There’s two broadcasts on survivor radio channels that mention sick dogs. There’s one where a guy talks about how sick his dog is and he’s just glad he’s got his dog with him. The other mentions something about sick dogs, I don’t remember exactly what though
Idk if we're just lucky or not but in my multiplayer server, we found more than 5 katanas impaled on zombies during our solo loot runs.
I’ve only found 1 katana in a zombie when I played multiplayer with some friends. But for some reason, it might’ve been a bug or lag, the zombie up and disappeared after we killed it

Eh. Kind of. Spears have one thing going for em. They're easy, and cheap af. Early on Spears we're used cuz you didn't need to really train people how to use em. Ya poke stuff. Later on armies started using Bill hooks and various other polearms.
In a vacuum Spears are pretty meh. If you close the gap they become worthless, hence why most soldiers had an arming sword in this case. Though the more people with a spear in close proximity its a wall of death.
Though if you give enough peasants a spear they'll do some damage even against skilled knights.
Speed demon increase the horsepower of your vehicles so its much better than it seems at face value. That extra horsepower helps with towing vehicles and driving off road.
And the opposite goes for sunday driver. I used to think sunday driver wasn’t that bad. I suck at driving, I figured that decreasing my speed would help. It did reduce the number of crashes. But it makes using a car as a weapon risky as hell. Towing anything is a pain too.
I’ve had both options get me killed on in recent rounds🤦🏼♂️
@@Brocuzgodlocdunfamdogson The way I see it, you always have the opportunity to drive slower with speed demon. But you don't get to drive faster with Sunday driver.
@@keegany4r176 if Sunday driver only lowered your top speed, it wouldn’t be so bad. But that decreased acceleration is a deal breaker.

@24:30 Getting to Louisville is fairly easy, follow the train tack to the train depot, head north past the depot, get through the "Gap in the Fence" and you are in Louisville. You don't have to fight hordes and breach through fences to get there.

NPCs are not coming in Build 42. Build 42 is set to lay the groundwork for the introduction of NPCs which is supposed to be in Build 43.

@@NotScrakes A looooooong time ago a laptop containing the games build(s) was stolen from the devs, and as far as I know, the police never managed to get it back for them, which regressed development a lot (I think they had to completely start from scratch). This conspiracy theory suggests that there never was a theft of the games files, the devs either wanted to keep the game in Early Access forever, couldn't handle the mess of spaghetti code and wanted to start again or a combination of both. It always gives me a giggle when it gets brought up. lol
@@KingFluffs Actually, that story too is a myth! What actually happened: They were moving out from their place, and went down to have a couple beers to celebrate. While they were out, someone broke in and stole their laptops. They hadn't backed up the code recently, so they were put behind a whole month of work + the emotional trauma of it. At the time, they were doing some kind of Kickstarter, I think? People on the internet started spreading the rumour that they had lost all code, or that they had never intended to deliver at all, which put so much more pressure on them, delaying them even further due to the stress and emotionally handling all this.
But it was actually just like a month's worth of coding that went lost. And the laptops.

Never realised it was changed to Knox Country, I just thought it was one of those cases where various people, including the creator of the mapping project, had just never heard the word county before, or maybe only ever misread it as country... Oh well, I'm gonna keep calling it Knox County, and I'm gonna keep telling people it's Knox County.
AHHH now it makes sense why there was a house I encountered with toilet paper in EVERY cupboard/shelf/bookcase! I believe it was my 30-35th new solo game in muldrough vanilla (I don’t like continuing after I die, I just start a new solo run). Was so confused at the time lmao

47:29 the thing is, tanks need something called a crew to operate, you cant just drive a tank solo, so if you want a kinda realistic tank experience within zomboid you'd have to play multiplayer to efficiently use a tank, alternatively you could just drive it without a crew although you'd have to do EVERYTHING yourself and that takes up ALOT of time
Yeah, You can drive them with one person fine, but thats all you would be capable of doing, you can't even get access the rest of the crew positions from the drivers compartment in modern MBTs.

For level 7, I agree completely that more remnants of a response to the outbreak would be an excellent addition. While there are police events you can find, more would be fantastic

On the bathroom hordes, I’ve had two different events, first one was I opened a bathroom, just got a shotgun with some shells, and immediately was swarmed and couldn’t even get the shotgun out. Another was I was scavenging a house, and found two zombies locked in a bedroom, both zombies are in their underwear, and there’s clothes all over the floor. Made me chuckle for a bit
I have had both of those! With the hoard in the bathroom, i was playing with my son and we could hear them, but only thought it was a single Z, or possibly two, i stood behind him ready with a sawn off pump action, he opened the door..... and it was on like Hong Kong! None of us got bit, but i did yell out loud in fright at how many were in there.🤣
The naked couple we found in a remote farm house miles from anywhere, we also had a laugh over it.😄

To expand upon Spears being OP. A reason that was missed aside from their ease in crafting is they are one of the two weapons that have a 100% kill animation/assassination that can help in clearing out smaller hordes quickly without hitting enemies over and over, and unlike the knife you can do so at a relatively safe distance as opposed to risking being bitten for the knife assassination. and of course by doing so, saving durability of your weapon since you're only hitting the zombie once.
I think part of why they renamed it is that Louisville isn't in Knox County irl.

I went into this game the first time like 99% blind. I saw a youtube video and I looked on steam and it was on sale and I was like ahh why not. I played the tutorial and it has you shout at the end. I paused my game, went into settings and changed that asap haha. i changed it to [ and this way I never press it again on accident.... Anyways I have over 600 hours in and I didnt knew some stuff you mentioned. great video :D
-18:18 I LOVE using bleach bottles as water botles. I always pick high thirst and using a bleach bottle is very handy. its like 2 normal wter bottles together. I love collecting bleach and emptying it out. I have only misclicked once and almost drunk it haha. one time I had like 90 bleach bottles filled with water for storage. I dont want to run out of water ever so I grab every single and one fill it and store it in crates for later. Also I always pick organized and that makes the big bag 35 or militairy 36 so the 4.8 weight of 3 extra bleach water bottles is way less then 8 slots you gain extra from organized so its still a positive win in space and it cancels out the traits... also its more easier to manage with high thirst (having to switch out less, 3 spare instead of 6 ''normal ones'')
48:30 some other free perk is ''weak stomach'' if you NEVER eat bad food or raw meat you are fine. You have a higher chance of becoming sick but if you never eat something bad its impossible to get sick. also the opposite iron gut doesnt 100% protect you it just lowers the chance of becoming sick. So its just alway dangerous no matter what to eat bad food. so just pick weak stomach always. also prone to illness gets countered by outdoorsman so its also free points and then you can pick outdoorsman what is 2 points and its the best trait in the game... There are other almost free traits that are also easy to manage but they can still suck. smoker and weak stomach are just ALWAYS a good option where as for example slow reader isnt recomended on multiplayer. you can fast foreward time on single player but it still takes a very good chunk out of your day. Some negatives I often pick are
-Slow reader (not on multiplayer its pain)
-slow healer
-prone to illness (only if you pick outdoorsman)
-thin skinned
-Underweight (its pretty easy to gain weight when you start, you can lose it by like day 5. You just have to gain 5 weight to get to between 75 and 85 weight)
-unlucky (less rare loot but I dont notice a difference. Also I have still found rare loot and loot is everywhere I think its like 10% less chance of rare loot but I have still found katanas left and right with this trait. it affects foraging a fair bit)
-conspicious (I have seen and tested this out, it does very little. the chance of you getting spotted by a zombie just almost the same as without it. also zombies rely on sound and more factors so this is very minor and like not noticable)
-high thirst (with a bit of experience water is easy to manage. Just take a break when you get super hot because that will very much drain your water. if you can manage your heat and body temp this is very easy to handle. if you often get to hot this can drain your watter supplies pretty fast.)
-short sighted (wear glasses they negate this. it affects your vision slightly but if you keep track of your glasses its like never a issue, unless you trip and fall and lose the glasses but the effects are minor and glasses can be found pretty easy)
and my go to always weak stomach and smoker....
All of these negatives are pretty easy to balance and work with. and you have many points to spend on good traits or occupations. I like to go crazy but you can also ignore a lot haha
Ok hear me out. Maybe the game title hints at what happened. The game is called ”Project Zomboid.” Keyword ”project.” Maybe what that means is that the government were working on a bioweapon codenamed ”Project Zomboid” and that that is what the military base is all about. One little containment breach and this experimental weapon got released and destroyed the world. This would be quite a clever idea for the title.

Something that I’ve noticed is that some folks will film their PZ let’s play up until they die, but never show the recording where their character actually goes down. They’ll just… stop uploading for that world, maybe take a break from PZ content, and then start up a new one. It’s disappointing that people are too ashamed to show their character’s demise, that’s the point of the game! It’s not a bad thing that you died! You played the game properly! I’d rather watch someone make a dozen characters that all die within the first month than watch them make one guy that lasts a few months before simply disappearing from the channel. Show me his death.

Mentioning of the toilet paper house! I ran into one of these of my latest run and was super confused, there was even toilet paper in the fridge and the house contained nothing else. Funny as hell to know it's background now never deleting that saved game now.
somebody already mentioned this but 05:40 while devs initially wanted to add them back in Build 42 they have recently said that there wont be Human NPCs in it!

For the crawlers you can hold Left-Alt to force a ground attack instead of a normal attack, but be careful when doing it

The "Knox county" name is confusing.
Kentucky is a real state.
Louisville, West Point and Muldraugh are real towns with positions kinda similar to what is seen in game.
And if you go south on Muldraugh to about where you turn West towards March Ridge, in reality you would be near fort Knox. So this is why the exclusion zone and incident are named "Knox".
And when a "county" is mentioned people assumed it was also "Knox county" but... This get weird because Knox county does in fact exist in KY but is not part of the playable region...
Better late than never. I think we can discuss that the organism that causes the zombies may be a prion just like the mad cow disease. It behaves like a prion in real life too. Tough some kind of immunity to a prion is hard to believe. Spreading through food, water, air born, blood, and saliva is ok, but being immune, I don't know. i got the toilet paper house around 350 hours in on pz, had the scavenging mod installed so i was like "yoo i found... toilet paper?" and by the end of it i could probably add up that the single house gave me 300+ rolls of toilet paper lol

I found the toilet paper house, it's usually a random cabin in the middle of a suburbia, nothing but toilet paper in all their shelves and cupboards. Also is it an anomaly that I found a katana in a relatively good condition inside a garbage bin? I distinctly remember finding one in an outdoor green bin along with a rat and some empty tin cans

Speed demon being a negative is debatable. It boosts your car handling, making offroading and towing easier.
I usually take the trait to dump a leftover point if I chose a negative trait with an uneven number, instead of taking another trait with an uneven number like sunday drive which limits you speed to just 30km/h.
For the crawler zomboids I always thought if you hit their legs with a blunt weapon you could make them into crawlers

speed demon is one of the best traits! getting swarmed by the dead in a car gun it you'll have higher exoneration to push thru them and can move faster on rough terrane. if you suck a driving don't take speed demon or Sunday driver just do your best and have fun :)
Yeah, definitely don’t take Sunday driver. I used to swear by it until I realized just how much it gimps your acceleration. If it only limited top speed, it’d be fine.

I was traveling out of town using the Nomad mod and found it. I haven't been able to find it since. I don't know if it was apart of one of my mods, but maybe its a easter egg.

@58:35 - This sounds like a nod to the "living dead" series that split off from George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead". IIRC, George Romero wanted the series to go one one, which is what made the "Dawn of the Dead", "Day of the Dead', etc. series, while his co-creator continued on with the "Living Dead" series,. which IIRC had the undead retain their minds and even regenerate from anything short of complete annihilation, as well as continue to reinfect areas via ash that mixed into the rain.
considering some of the dev blogs, i'd imagine that the US government survives and takes back the country, or at least some of it, as they made a blog celebrating the 30 year anniversary of the knox outbreak, and it seemed like it was from an in game perspective, with there being government looking figures as the picture. It also had a twitter account linked so i think it is from an in universe perspective

I found the toliet paper house just a week ago with my friend thinking it was a bug or some dumb mod but I think I deleted the world and I didn’t even know it was supposed to be some rare occurrence still cool we found it
v42 is currently what I'm most hyped this year.
I’m not surprised there’s no tanks in project Zomboid because the number one question I have in every single zombie movie is why is there a tank in an open field and how the hell did the zombies kill the tank crew
The only possible explanation is the tank running out of gas lol, cause other than that you would be unstoppable with one of those
@@G.P.M_7 yeah I don’t get it in zombie movies. There’s always a broken down tank I’m assuming it’s gonna run out of gas but it’s a tank you can literally just have some turret to cover you while you refill.
The only zombies I can reasonably see doing that are the smart ones that can open doors, gives atleast some sort of reasoning
maybe one of the crew were unknowingly infected and turned inside the tank.
