    I planted a Ginkgo tree about 30 years ago, it’s only about 30 feet tall, very slow growing, now I know why, I never added any lime to the soil! Will definitely add some now after watching your video. Thanks Mr. Maple Podcast👍

    Mr Maple Podocast- Lucky to have a mature (23 yrs old ) Ginkgo 'Autumn Gold' in my landscape. Small branches that have been removed look great in outdoor conifer container arrangements in the winter with its white bark coloring.

    i dig maples. In Lewisburg, WV. both tourists and locals gather on the lawn of the Carnegie center to watch leaves fall, picnic and generally celebrate the sublime grandeur of the seasons. The ginkgo is definitely the most beloved tree in a town that appreciates such things more than most

      It seams like they do not stink without a male near by. There is one in my neighborhood that the fruit has never smelled but there is not other ginkgo anywhere in this area. I think it will change once I start planting males.

    Those Namiki st trees look like a lot of work! I’m an apprentice arborist, and I’m preparing to prune a friend’s Ginkgo tree on a weekend. It’s mature and starting to lean away from the street where the power company has clearance trimmed for overhead line clearance. Proper sized (1/3 rule) laterals are rare in these trees with many at perpendicular angles, and the branches are getting large. I’ve heard Ginkgo’s are tough and fast growing, do they compartmentalize well like Sycamore? I’d appreciate any pruning advice (maximum diameter, allowable % to take off, etc)

    Hey guys, I love your videos. Just one suggestion: please point to , touch or introduce the tree to us (like you would a person) if the tree is in the video with you. Like this video, there are trees in the video but are any of them the ginko? I would like to know so I can see how it looks at time of your video even if they haven’t leafed out yet. Just trying to learn. I have watched and learned a lot about Japanese maples especially. Love both of you. Thank You for taking the time to make these videos and teach us so much. ❤️💚💚💚💚💚❤️

    I just ordered a maple and my first ginko, a dwarf from you. Thanks for this video! But i wonder about the fertilizing(15 for nitrogen)and adding lime in the correct amounts. I heard 3 Tbsp pelletized lime for dwarf when fertilizing spring summer and fall.. And heard fertilizing stops by May. Question, what did i misunderstand? Also, lime only when fertilizing? Will i receive specific info when it is delivered?

    • @MrMapleShow
      @MrMapleShow  2 роки тому +2

      You can lime 3 times a year to help the soil but only fertilize through May

    I have a new ginkgo tree we bought in may we keep a water bag on it majority of the time. I have noticed the the tips of the leaves are dry and turning brown. It’s crispy on the ends. Do I need more water? There is new grown growing so I’m confused. The greenhouse we bought it from said it was too wet? Help is needed :)

    • @MrMapleShow
      @MrMapleShow  2 роки тому +1

      It sounds like way to much water! Make sure it’s drying out between waterings. To much water will kill the tree faster than not enough

      I’ve never had much luck with Japanese maples bareroot especially this late in the season. Also I try to give each rootball room as a nursery so I’ve not tried multiple in a pot. In my experience one tends to win out long term as others die out with them close

    My several ginkgo seedlings are entering the third year. They did not send out leaves last year until June 2021 and this past season some of them just finished defoliating in late March 2022. Should I worry? What can I do to improve? They are kept in containers and indoors all year long (have to do it this way...I have no outdoor space). Many thanks!

    • @MrMapleShow
      @MrMapleShow  2 роки тому +1

      They are much happier outside. Long term inside is not really an option. They will diminish each season inside

    People always say: don't lime and fertilize at the same time (for lawn for example). The lime will neutralize some of the fertilizer. Here, you're telling me the reverse. I'm confused :)

    • @MrMapleShow
      @MrMapleShow  2 роки тому +2

      I only fertilize in the spring and often put out the lime at the same time. I’ve always had great success with it with ginkgo. Ginkgo are the only plants here I regularly use lime for. I don’t really have lawn recommendations but it’s worked awesome for ginkgo I can testify to that for sure
