A very accurate and detailed story of my Orlando Magic fan life in two collapse videos. The local media drove our superstars away, oddly enough. The poll about how much Shaq is worth was dominated by non sports fans and the "Dwightmare" campaign was driven by sports analysts who thought we should trade for Andrew Bynum. We now have our 4th number one pick, so hopefully Bancero can turn us back to championship contenders soon if we can get some 3 point shooters for him.
As an Orlando native and former Magic supporter, it's no wonder here in Central Florida they got the name "Orlando Tragic". We had Penny & Shaq, T-Mac and Dwight all within the first 20 years of our franchise. Just being an expansion team in '89 we started off on the right foot. If the Magic organization just opened their wallet, look at what our starting lineup could've looked like: PG: Jameer Nelson SG: Vince Carter SF: Hedo Turkoglu/Rashard Lewis PF: Rashard Lewis/Hedo Turkoglu C; Dwight Howard Dec. 18, 2010 is the day it all came crashing down. Stopped supporting them since that day when they made those trades to break up the team.
The greatest crime Stan van Gundy ever committed was to start Jameer Nelson, who was coming off an injury, after Rafer skip to my lou Alston had driven them all the way to the finals. Smh!
I will always stay pissed at SVG for that move. SVG is so stubborn to the core. He gets too one track minded sometimes. Alston was playing very well during that run. Then, once Meer gets back, Alston goes to the bench instead of Meer working his way back into the game itself. 🤦🏾♂️
New series idea: rebuild. Teams that were once a laughing stock of their league that evolved into a championship team for many years. One team is the Tampa bay lightning, they were once the worst team in the nhl and are now one of the most dominant teams in the entire league for the past nearly decade
I also like the series idea “Hopeless” where teams like the Eagles and Chiefs who’ve been good and sometimes had the best team in the league and always find a way to fail in the most heartbreaking fashion, until the day they finally breakthrough. Maybe it should be called “Breakthrough” now that I think about it. There are other teams that fit that narrative. As a Chiefs season ticket holder since 1996, at 38 yrs old, I’ve known 35 yrs of gut-wrenching heartbreak and endless hope living side by side. Until 2017 when we drafted Mahomes, and all of that misery, or Missery as we say in Kansas City, MO. Thoughts?
That was my Cubs until they broke the curse in 2016. Now I can just sit back and watch some excellent baseball knowing I got to witness a championship in my lifetime
Same here Doom, I got it with the Royals in 2015 and the Chiefs in February. The chiefs journey was much more painful during the bad times and it was a lot further in the past since the last SB we’d won in 1970, Royals had won a WS in ‘85 but 30 yrs was plenty painful also. You had the most magical triumph of any fanbase Doom, and I’m so glad the royals had just won a ring becuz I was able to enjoy the cubbies win with genuine excitement for a deserving fanbase instead of bitterness and jealousy. Plus y’all had Benny Z after he’d been the key to our offense, what a winner he was man. The Red Sox had a pretty sweet triumph as well. Goddamn, I love sports.
Damn Orlando, y’all couldn’t keep Shaq, didn’t build around T-Mac, didn’t sign Duncan to pair with Hill and T-Mac, other stars y’all didn’t keep such as Victor Oladipo, and y’all split the 09 Magic team up. Brah cmon🤦🏾♂️
JJ Redick’s career is soooo fascinating: he played at Duke, but he never thought he’d aspire to be a star, just a ‘shooter’. He’s been on the supporting cast of some truly great teams, these Magic, the Clippers with Chris Paul and Blake Griffen, the good part of the ‘process’ with Philly, and now he’s in a lineup with Zion. His ego didn’t let him think he’d have to carry a team, and because of that, he’s major underrated piece to a lot of these contending teams. We’ll see if New Orleans will contend for a title with him still on the roster, but I have no reason to think it won’t happen.
The way he embraced his position and using the skill sets he did have to best help his team was wise on his part and demonstrated a healthy level of self awareness on his part. He could have demanded to be a higher level guy and been out of the league fairly quickly. Instead he embraced the role he was provided and did the most he could in those roles in the teams he was on and ended up having a fifteen year career and made roughly $116M in his career from NBA.pay. Based on the Magic players recollection (JJ discussed this himself in his own podcast), the main reason the Magic lost to Boston in the ECF was the coaching blunder of SVG *even before the series started.* Even though the Magic was solid heading to the ECF, SVG suddenly decided to make major adjustments for the Celtics series *even before the series started.* Remember what Shaq said about SVG? He was a good strategist BUT he had a tendency to get nervous, overthink, and make bad decisions. That "dark side" of SVG showed up during the Magic-Celtics ECF.
I remember those tough times!Dwight and Jameer sitting dejected after thr Finals loss. But this year everything is sweep away for Dwight! So happy for him!
I love Orlando Magic. Saying that, Guys Like Shaquille O neal, Horace Grant and Dwight howard all ended up with an NBA ring at the LA Lakers after leaving Orlando.
I’m not sure what series this would fit into, but a video on Evan Gattis’ rookie season with the Braves could be very interesting. The whole background as a janitor combined with his completely unexpected output that year and great nickname would make for a really good video!
@Sean Minton I get all that but Dwight never gave up. He definitely did not live up to Shaq’s prime which was far better than Dwight but Shaq needs to give credit when due
@Sean Minton Idk he was pretty key rotation player during the early playoffs and the regular season, who knows if AD would have stayed healthy if he had to play a whole season at center or splitting minutes with Javale.
The Magic have their next All-Star!! So proud of Paolo Banchero and the work he's doing for that franchise. I hope he stays long term and takes them the distance.
Dwight's redemption arc to champion is one of the most fascinating storylines in the NBA. And the Magic are one of the most frustrating orgs ever. Amassed so much greatness and realized such little potential. Great deep dive video!

Watching their newest video of the Shaq and Penny magic collapse and then queueing this up afterward is hilarious. Genuinely picks up right where the Shaq/Penny video left off. Just 20 years of constant failure
More like 30 years but there are teams who have never made it to the finals. There are 29 failures every year and the same teams tend to dominate a lot, like the Warriors, the Celtics, the Lakers, the Spurs and the 90's Bulls. Being a Magic fan is a roller coaster, not constant. I wouldn't trade those 30 years for half the league.
A Collapse of the Tom Thibodeau's Chcago Bulls would be interesting since they kept going even after DRose's devastating injury and once GarPax failed to convince Carmelo Anthony to join the team and fired Thibs after failing to dent the Cavaliers, everything fell apart for the Bulls which led to the biggest coaching meme of them all - Jim f'n Boylen.
@@wytelester-green8891 can’t believe how they compare us to Minnesota what have they ever done? We’ve had some of the most iconic players in nba history and won some games
Back in the 1990s, they could of had a dynasty with Shaq and Penny. But the front office made some really DUMB decisions; (not resigning Shaq, not taking Penny's knee injury seriously, not firing Brian Hill after getting swept by Houston) that put the franchise back for several years.

I agree. I have thought of as far back as the 1970s Baltimore Colts (two collapses, actually) and the 1960s Yankees. There would be some footage difficulties, but I do not see it as too tough.
Honestly I'm not even much of a basketball fan (as opposed to baseball, American football, or hockey) but all these excellent videos are making me into more of one by the day
As a Magic fan, I like to think things worked out long term with the Dwight trade with getting Fournier and Vuc. Damn I miss those two and Aaron Gordon SO MUCH!! But our new young core going into 2023 is so fun and exciting. Fultz. Franz. Cole. Suggs. Banchero. Bamba. T-Ross (for now). Carter. They were so much fun to watch last season, it even made losing fun (won only 22 games). Got my League Pass bought and paid for, and I am SO READY for this season. GO MAGIC!!!
Rushing the rebuild for a desperate Playoff spot will forever be the darkest moment for me as a fan. Trading Oladipo and a lottery pick (just so happened to be an the all-star, Sabonis 🙂) for a half season of Ibaka while ditching Harris for capspace only to waste money on Bismack. Years of hope wasted because of the lack of patience. I'm glad they are in a better position nowadays but I hope the young guys can develop and hopefully improve to be more than an average 7th or 8th seed team.
@@guerillawhite3083 REALLY hoping they can find a gem this draft. Imagine grabbing a solid scorer/shooter to boost the offense. If they get lucky, it'll really brighten the future. Wishful thinking tho
The Magic have been exceedingly lucky for such a young franchise. A good chunk of their existence has been them contending. With that said, the last 10 years of the Magic has been the universe reverting them to the average NBA franchise.
God or whoever gave you a third chance. You have a WILD young core. Yes Franz and Jalen choked hard last week but don't let last game syndrome take over. The Banchero/Wagner/Suggs core probably the best development core in the bloody league
Dwight getting his first ring with the same franchise he was once despised on in the place he was once so beloved, has to be the perfect character arc ever.

Nah. He shouldn't have done it with LA (city he lost Finals to)... with enemies like Rondo & Lebron.
@@vulcanraven9701 enemies? Bro it’s just basketball

I felt like Rafer Alston was a better starting point guard during the finals, Jameer Nelson ruined the rotation.
Yeah but remember Alston in the first 3 rounds of the playoffs averaged 12.7 PPG/4.4 APG
Jameer was an All Star that season averaging 16.2 PPG/5.7 APG
The Magic were desperate to get him back and weren’t gonna have their All Star PG come off the bench.
@@JWex-jy7sk yeah but the roster had more chemistry with Rafer. Van Gundy ruined the momentum by bringing in Jameer. And honestly, while I like Jameer, it seemed like the moment was too big for him because he was pretty erratic.

Well Horace already had rings with the bulls but I get what you saying
Also Frank Vogel got a ring with the Lakers after being fired from the Magic...
Its pretty interesting. Lakers always taking Orlando's sloppy seconds and they end up winning there loll
@@Iranianjew4life yes indeed...not to throw shade at the Magic they can’t catch a break when it comes to keeping and developing players....
Orlando may have DisneyWorld, but LA is where the magic really is
I’m not sure what series this would fit into, but a video on Evan Gattis’ rookie season with the Braves could be very interesting. The whole background as a janitor combined with his completely unexpected output that year and great nickname would make for a really good video!
Braves fan here, there are times I miss him. Would love too see that video
all these Collapse series videos are little masterpieces. Thanks! Idea for the next one: Sonics between 96 finals and 08 Oklahoma switch.
Narration is an art. Great job. As usual ✊🏾
My favourite clip of Dwight is when he says he’s open to Steve Nash, like it’s Steve Nash, he decides when you’re open.
Imagine if Dwight won a championship with the Magic....
Shaq still would say he didn't deserve it 😑
“The Magic have never had a better center on their roster than me.”
@@JDubs1464 Shaq just hates Dwight
@@JDubs1464 is that a shaq quote or a dwight quote literally cant tell hahaha
@Sean Minton I get all that but Dwight never gave up. He definitely did not live up to Shaq’s prime which was far better than Dwight but Shaq needs to give credit when due
@Sean Minton I respect that. He’s a borderline HOF and I think winning a chip as a key role player helps his case but doesn’t quite solidify it
Bruh poor Dwight 😂
Lack of management and roster improvement drew him out of the Magic
Hey at least he got one in LA.
@Sean Minton Idk he was pretty key rotation player during the early playoffs and the regular season, who knows if AD would have stayed healthy if he had to play a whole season at center or splitting minutes with Javale.
You gotta do more of these collapse videos!!! These, untitled, and beef history are you're best series please do more of them

@@xdgaming70 good idea
I love this show , gives me and all sports fans the true back story of teams . Keep it up 💯
Part two babyyyy
Yep lol
This Magic team is a precursor to the teams today. They got a dominating center and a lineup full of shooters.
Then they blew it up all of a sudden.
We all knew the awkward interview was going to pop up and waited for it.
“52 wins is nothing to sneeze at, and you shouldn’t sneeze at things” 😂😂 I’m weak Seth 😂
One of my favorite teams to watch in the late 2000s/early 2010s

This feels weirdly like Giannis. Multi-year DPOY, team trying to surround him with shooters, small market, looming free agency...
@@timothyasdent9512 Giannis has only won 1 dpoy. Just sayin
Alternate title: How the Orlando Magic went from a Dwinner to a Dwightmare to Dwightless.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG!!!!
Pls do a rewind on the Manny Pacquiao’s knockout punch on Ricky Hatton‼️, Day 1
I'd rather see when marquez knocked him out.
it’s crazy, been a magic fan since I was a little kid. Remember when they made the finals in 09 I was a kid crazy how bad they are.
This shows that organizations are built from the top down. Need great management then great Coaching followed by a great team.
So Jerry Krause aint all that wrong, aint he 🤣
1000% correct. Magic need to be sold.

Back in the 1990s, they could of had a dynasty with Shaq and Penny. But the front office made some really DUMB decisions; (not resigning Shaq, not taking Penny's knee injury seriously, not firing Brian Hill after getting swept by Houston) that put the franchise back for several years.

That wasnt really beef, just one sided Paul Pierce battles until Lebron went to the Heat...I was a huge Lebron fan in 2008 and I gotta admit Pierce was Lebrons dad at the time
@@fredleeland2464 yeah lebron doesn’t really beef with anybody tbh. Closest one you could say is with lance Stephenson but just like Paul pierce, it’s very one sided and lebron doesn’t really talk about them
Thanks for this vid, I was looking forward to an Dwight era of magic video.
As a Magic Fan, it’s been rough
We need more vids on not so recent content. A rewinder on the Steve Largent hit, for example
I agree. I have thought of as far back as the 1970s Baltimore Colts (two collapses, actually) and the 1960s Yankees. There would be some footage difficulties, but I do not see it as too tough.
Hey Seth, can you guys do videos on how miller and Ewing were ringless? Or the collapse of the 1987 Celtics or the 1982 76ers?
Been binging on these.
The first collapse that I lived directly through, and the one that hurts the most. Watching this team live hurt. I wish it could have gone another way
Honestly I'm not even much of a basketball fan (as opposed to baseball, American football, or hockey) but all these excellent videos are making me into more of one by the day
As a Magic fan, I like to think things worked out long term with the Dwight trade with getting Fournier and Vuc.
GO MAGIC!!!
I love these kinds of vids. TY for some entertainment before the football Sunday
I remember being pumped when the magic came to town to see d howard
Life long magic fan since the teams inception. This was painful to relive thanks for posting 😢
I'm glad they are in a better position nowadays but I hope the young guys can develop and hopefully improve to be more than an average 7th or 8th seed team.
if JI wasnt made of paper id be more hopeful but if he can stay healthy, and if kelle can develop into even a solid reliable pg im set

The Magic have been exceedingly lucky for such a young franchise. A good chunk of their existence has been them contending. With that said, the last 10 years of the Magic has been the universe reverting them to the average NBA franchise.
I love your content!! I claim not to be into sports anymore because it’s to heart breaking. But when you post I watch lol! Keep up the great content!
Looks like the Magic ran out for the Magic.
As an Orlando Magic fan, I can use five words to describe this video
Pain. Tears. Pain. Endless pain
Or Orlando Magic is like Spain w/o the S. 🤪
Here’s a simple one: The Pain...It Continues.😞
God or whoever gave you a third chance. You have a WILD young core. Yes Franz and Jalen choked hard last week but don't let last game syndrome take over. The Banchero/Wagner/Suggs core probably the best development core in the bloody league

Can you guys make a Collapse video for soccer? Like how AC Milan went from being Europe's best, to just another team.
You guys should bring back The Worst and talk about the 2011-12 Charlotte Bobcats, who had the worst win-loss record in NBA history.
Please make one eventually for the 1990's Indians teams. Those teams were loaded and were very consistent, but overall never won the world series with Jim Thome, Manny Ramirez, Omar Vizquel and Kenny Lofton. Those 4 names alone should be great for any team!
