Yeah. I went with 96gb too. I was debating between the 64 at 5600 vs the 96 at 5200. I noticed when bouncing around all my terabytes worth of video footage it'll sometimes use all 96 so I think I made the right decision.
Getting the IPS panel is important for those wanting good colour accuracy. I want the power in a laptop but have to avoid the mini LED panels for now. So that’s the reason you’d get one!
I agree. Only thing I'm noticing now though is most displays are OLED. So when I'm editing photos or grading video, the contrast looks different on this IPS panel vs an OLED in terms of blacks. But overall having this panel has made creative tasks easier
I think i would just ignore the laptop because of the keyboard looks crowded and not supporting num pad and the mouse pad is too large and the keys are a bit far! 😅
@@consumertechwarehouse I was concerned at first but honestly the ips screen on the 18 is super nice, I feel more immersed on the 18 vs the 16. I’ll upgrade laptops again when a 18 mini led/oled option is available in mercury white with top GPU option
I bought this open box for a discount ($3800) on Ebay, the original buyer spent the full price but apparently they aren't happy with it. I don't blame them. I dissembled the heat sink and I can confirm Razer uses cheap and dried crusty paste. Same with cheap and shoddy thermal padding on CPU and GPU VRM's and VRAMs. Also noticed couple of CPU VRM's aren't cover by thermal padding. The heatsink/vapor chamber isn't very big, there are only two fins and two fans. This thing will THROTTLE out of the box. It's too bad for buyers who aren't comfortable with DIY, they are really getting ripped off and shafted. Anyways, after replacing thermal padding and repasting (cryonaut on GPU, conductonaut extreme on CPU), it's running great now. I got an awesome deal. At the expense of someone else...
Yeah that's a good price. Me and many consumers aren't willing to go the extra mile as you lol. I'm quite happy with mine still and use it for all my gaming and every video I make. Have you noticed a performance uplift? I found that it thermal throttles when already running at 95% of what the CPU is capable of.
Yes at first I was suspicious why the original owner was unhappy and I had some doubts. But I did use it a bit before I did the DYI (setting up Windows, installing HWinfo + other benchmarks) and the throttling is very noticeable from the start. Fans ramp to max speed during initial Windows setup. HWinfo shows 95C+ when opening applications. When running Cinebench multicore on turbo preset, CPU @ 130W started thermal throttling less than 5 seconds after starting (didn't bother trying 160W mode). After seeing this, then it became clear as day why the original owner sold this. Buyer's regret was real.
@@consumertechwarehouse So after my DIY I listed above, fans now run silent in ambient 20C. Only kick up during benchmarks or gaming. No thermal throtting at 130W, only way I see thermal throttle now is using the 160W PL2 mode (Custom/OC enabled) and that's after around 45seconds into it running 160W. Oh, did I mention that before DIY, the way I found out that several CPU VRM's were missing thermal padding from the stock/factory is on Intel XTU, the chart actually tells you "Motherboard VR Throttling" warning. I love this laptop but Razer and perhaps all other OEM's are just plain dirty. I'm not sure if it's the lack of QA or QC, but it's downright scammerish to sell these machines at such a price when the performance out of the box is so bad that I need to DIY just to fix all these things.
@consumertechwarehouse Thinking of Razer Blade 18 2024 model, but major for me is speakers. For this price range other laptops sounds very bad. Blade 18 2024 must sound very great, same or better than MacBook Pro 16 with M-series chip or ASUS Zephyrus G16 2024 which have very great speakers with bass. So how about your opinion? Can you compare it with Blade 18 2023 model? Does Blade 18 2024 sounds better? I heard that speakers was upgraded and woofers are much bigger. So when music is playing are the any bass present? Thank you.
Hey, would you be willing to do a testufo motion pursuit shot of your Razer Blade? It is done with a smartphone (Apple or Samsung are OK) I'm curious how the display performs in motion.
Thanks, can you help me understand more about displays? Aside from the no dimming zones on the 4K, are there any other drawbacks I should be aware of, like brightness or anything else?
Hello. Thank you for the great video. I just had to return my razer blade 16 2023 4k mini led due to deadpixels and I have been offered a replacement. I do not know if they entertain the idea, but I am thinking to request for blade 18. I do need a 4k laptop, but between razer blade 16 4k mini led BOE panels (which have a lot of issues at least in the 2023 model) and razer blade 18 4k IPS. I am leaning towards the 4k IPS, given also blade 18 has thunerbolt 5 and wifi 7. Could you comment on the display, no HDR or 10bit (where would these be helpful?) For ref: I'm an engineer and use very heavy load 3d design/simulations software. I do enjoy photography and editing on the side so I am seeking a high adobeRGB value. With the previous razer blade 16 2023 4k mini led that I had. The screen was 4k but the BOE panel had so much issues and not calibrated well that the colors were so washed out. Do you think it worth to change to blade 18 IPS with no hdr? Thank you for the great content, -H
Stick with that until next year or longer. That GT77 was my main laptop last year and if it weren't for the channel and wanting to make new content, I would have still had it.
How would you say this compares to the Zephyrus G16? Obviously different screen sizes but just overall: screen quality, performance, build quality, etc. I do wish ASUS would put black keyboards on their white devices though. It's a shame that the Apple of Windows laptops has done it.
I did a video on the g16 vs Razer blade 16. They are very different laptops. It really depends on what you'll be doing with it and your lifestyle. Right now, all I do is work (from home), game and make videos lol. So I don't need a smaller laptop to carry around and don't care about battery. If that's not you, then the g16 might be better.
@@consumertechwarehouse thanks for the response. I'm also using Samsung G95NC and using a monitor arm with it that makes the whole desk set up way more convenient. You might want to look it up - Ergotron HX with Heavy Duty Pivot.
You don't need 64GB for editing 4k videos at all. just Learn how to edit videos efficiently by using proxies, Transcoding to Pro res 422, It's really not time consuming. The problem is trying to edit 4k footage in H264 and such. Nice video. Is it possible to down-scale the 4K resolution to 2K? Is the screen still good to use then? I was hoping to get the 2K mini led in Mercury White instead of the black. Many thanks.
Downscaling from 4k to whd looks blurry because of to dithering. The pixels don't line up perfectly well unless using the native resolution. It's going to be usable though if you need to. It's a shame that the mercury white is only available in this configuration
