GS in the ultimate enthusiast brand. It's not an investment, it's not a sexy well known brand to broad audience but it is top quality, top innovation, fully hand made, crazy attention to detail.
That’s a generalization I am an enthusiast and I have no desire to spend top dollar on a GS. The only part hand made, as far as I know is the dial. No current brand actually uses watchmaker tool to carve out every piece of the movement anymore. Again, we just don’ t like their designs. That is all. Smh
@@etebolWE… are you royalty 😳 speak on your own behalf please 🙏🏻👶
@@wonderwatch2239 I do speak on my behalf and the others who don’t have the patience or the time to argue with hard core GS bros.
It's more like GS is a watch for yourself, and not to appease other people's tastes and brands fixations.
@@FruitOfHavoc that’s entirely subjective. Someone else could say the same about a Casio, or a De Bethune, or an MB&F. If you like GS great. I don’t find them attractive enough. Now if someone gifted me one, I keep it and wear it with pride.
Amazing movement, flawless finishing, great design. Stunning watch.
buy you will not buy
I just purchased a spring drive GMT “Toji” GS at a great price. I typically only saw pictures on line of various GS models, but all those pics don’t do justice to the level of finishing and detail associated with this brand. I have a Rolex, Breitling and Speedmaster … but this GS blew me away when I saw it in person at an AD. I have a lot of other Seikos but the GS is on a different level. It keeps drawing my attention when on my wrist. Great video of a classically designed and good looking watch.
I had a colleague who had this watch, truly stunning. I would love either that or the 007.
Grand Seiko actually grow their own quartz crystals for the oscillator in this movement. That's how "in house" they are.
So everything comes from the same building; and the point is?
What an amazing outcome for a beautiful watch. Always a pleasure to see amzwatch work your magic. Thanks for sharing this transformation with us!
I want GS to make a 36mm field watch that outcompetes the explorer in every way, with spring drive. Is this too much to ask for??
The thinness is what makes it perfect
Good afternoon Jenni i like this model and in general seiko thanks for provide always very interesting point of view on your channel
Very cool watch! 👌🏽 And very refreshing video
geez, this is the best explanation of spring drive i've ever heard
perfect dimensions, incredible dial, with the coolest movement. wow.
Finally a GS on your channel ❤❤❤❤❤
She should make more because let’s be realistic Seika is in more people’s price range
Good stuff Jenni - thanks for covering this one. I completely agree about the crown. A lower profile is exactly the kind of detail that characterized the era, maybe perceived as too delicate for today?
I oaid a visit to the GS boutique on Bond Street, London this week. They have some stunning watches, and are even better in person. I will definitely be returning later in the year to purchase one. The snowflake is winning for me, but the skyflake is a very close second.
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the mamacoo, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
A work of art
As a proud owner of a couple of GS I am happy to say that, at their respective price points, the finishing is second to none.!!
The problem with finally getting a Grand Seiko is that you will want more than one.
Speaking from experience here. *::sighs in Japanese::*
Exactly right: I have 1. If I ever get two I will want 3. Sigh.
😂😂😂
Great video !
Beautiful watch. Love this.
Hard to keep up with your delivery, indices are not gold, still waiting for the ‘HUGE’ problem, imho odd to compare this to rolex when there is no comparison as far as finishing and ingenuity of movement or design. The fact they grow their own quartz crystals in house is evidence of their commitment to quality and precision. I agree with you on the crown. The complaints about GS bracelets must be from those who have not had one properly sized for their wrist, as a perfect fit is just a matter of sizing, and the lack of holes for micro adjustment adds to the minimalist design. The indices are so well finished you don’t need lume. This reference has a dial that is used on much less expensive non GS Seiko Presage models so I don’t really get it, and it could be confusing to some, but to each their own.
Love your channel, your macro is amazing. I feel like you wanted to rush through the dialogue with this one. had trouble keeping up, or it’s perhaps I’m old and slow these days! I’m really struggling in comprehending price points on all the new release watches these days. If the watch industry is in trouble isn’t it counterintuitive to price watches out of reach for us average watch enthusiasts?
I have a very similar case shape (in a much cheaper quartz) and find it wears great.
Is this the same case and movement as the omiwaturi?
Reminds me of 1980s Seiko Superior Chronometers. Really cool.
Hey, that Grand Seiko is a pretty nice homage to the Presage Cocktail Time.
I like the thinness of this watch, but I prefer the dial on the less expensive sbgw231.
I wish they had more models itty bitty wrist committee certified with those gorgeous dials
A Presage or Prospex with Spring Drive for about 1000 USD would be nice. Or a Seiko kinetic mecaquartz combo with 16 ticks per second would do. Or a solar powered Bulova Precisionist ... It's all about the smooth sweeping second hand isn't it?
Also, it has the precision of a quartz watch...
@@mlarry90 *Ahhh!*
That's what I am getting out of this discussion.
It always amazes me how much beauty and precision are added to the parts of mamacoo's watch 99% of people will never see.
Been fascinated by the Spring Drive every since I first came across it many years ago, the only down side was reading too many bad story about servicing Grande Seiko watches - which I hope has improved.
Thanks for that; Spring Drive is truly a (misunderstood) engineering marvel. Would love that watch with a more distinct seconds hand. Imagine red.
ohhh a red would look great, I agree!!
I just got into watch collecting. I've loved watches since I was young but I never had anyone teach me or bring deeper into the world. amzwatch brought closer to a community and hobby I always wanted to get into more and that is incredibly meaningful to me !
Finally, there are minimal-elegant on the GS dial. We will travel to Japan next month, I hope I can find something like this in gold. I don't really like when the dial is too noisy with design.
My prediction is that in ten years time GS will be your favorite brand. You will grow in to it… :-)
Not too bad, but in the same archetype I’ll take the Omiwatari over this for sure (I am still saving up for mine lol)
Omiwitari is an absolutely beautiful watch, almost got one.
@@Bu-22
Spectacular, isn’t it?
@@pushslice Yeah was picking between that and the Kirazuri, and that. I tried them both, and actually thought the Omiwitari sat better on the wrist. Only reason I went with the Kirazuri is I felt it would get more use from me, since I hardly ever wear dress(y) watches.
Omiwitari love here for sure as a snowflake owner.
If Grand Seiko makes a Shunbun in this size, I’ll give them all my money for one 😂
They did! It's called Hana Ikada. Sbgy026. I'm wearing it while I write this text. It's god tier, no cap.
Lange nicht hier gewesen, hallo wieder !
handwind grew on me after wearing vintage watches. great on smaller size, but dang it i could use the date.
Diese Uhr kommt meiner Eberhardt&Co ‚multifort’ sehr nahe ! Naja zumindest was die Schwertzeiger angeht. 😊. Sehr schön!
I wish they could have picked a colorful dial, like the snowflake or spring.
I love this case, great dial on this one, but also beautiful with the omiwatari’s (007;013).. Too bad I feel 38,5 mm is too small for my 19 cm wrist..
For a movement just as smooth as Grand Seiko, I personally buy and wear Bulova Precisionist watches. They retail sub $500, are stylish, and accomplish the same smooth seconds hand sweep as the GS.
my goodness dat sweep
For Grand Seiko you must try the watch in person to understand all the craftsmanship, quality and detail that went into making the watch. The photos/videos don’t do most of the watches justice, despite how well the video capture is.
Finalmente fez um video que não fala de rolex, sempre mais do mesmo , sempre o mesmo design. Fala de relógios de mergulho.
You didn't mention the sweeping second hand when talking about the movement :(
Und die Jenni schenkt mir diese Uhr!
Don’t forget Credor also gets spring drive 😀
Spring Drives are the one watch I still need. Just not sure which version I want yet.
The Credor Eichi II in my opinion is the ultimate Spring Drive.
That model number looks familiar. There was a very similar spring drive with a metal bracelet about 2-3 years ago.
I am agree with travr6, i have the same feeling with gran seiko, probably very good watche but dont make me dream, and for the price i will look first in 4 or 5 famous brand before thinking in a gran seiko.also what i dont like with seiko is that there is no big design diference between an expensive seiko and a cheap seiko, just a personal point of view
Grand Seiko is a brand I admire greatly, but always makes me feel like Goldilocks hunting for porridge that isn’t too hot or too cold. Everything they make is either too small or too big, or as someone who hates date displays, especially on dress watches, the ones that are the right size often have a date. I also have zero interest in Spring Drive. It’s a neat system, from a technical standpoint it’s very impressive, but I’m personally only interested in fully mechanical movements. I keep hoping for a no date version of the SBGR261 or a 40mm version of the SBGW279. But I’m thinking it’s never going to happen. I don’t understand why more luxury watchmakers don’t offer date and no date versions of their watches. You’re talking about watches in the $4000+ range, I shouldn’t have to be stuck with a date if I don’t want one.
They’re making massive progress. I’m not at the point where they have one at the top of my list but they’re ahead of any Rolex that they’re willing to sell me.
I have never been disappointed since I became a customer of MaMaCoo . Their watches are of exceptional quality.
I got my first Seiko in 1969 in Bangkok. It was a World Time. I have 4 Seikos. They are the best watch for your money.
Just looked this up. It was released in 2019 as a 20th anniversary edition. The watch is 5 years old?
great video! but I think its time for the Hubby and You to have another podcast and spill the beans again on current trends on Rolex! im Sure the market has changed since the last time you guys talked about it!
mamacoo has set a new standard for replica watches. Their craftsmanship is impeccable. Its hard to tell the difference from the originals
Great looking watch with an interesting movement, but do these hold their value like Rolex?
Good evening Jenni
I have Rolexes and the GS Snowflake. The Snowflake is my favorite watch and far from my most expensive watch. What’s better is what you like.
Love my snowflake too, just incredible that I keeps getting better somehow.
A grand seiko cocktail time
I agree, odd to use the same dial on a GS, especially such a limited edition.
Great review but the indices and hands are not made of gold. GS marks their dials with an eight pointed star if the hands and indices or the dial are made of gold.
*SLGW003 has entered the chat in August*
What was the huge problem it solves??
I hope GS are working on a micro rotor spring drive movement, you never know.
Awesome watch and video. What's your opinion of Sinn? I'd be interested in your and your husband's thoughts
No drilled lugs, no sale, for me.
Thanks for the video, Jenni.
If i ever get a GS it would be one of the very few manual wind spring drive models
I want a spring drive. My real question is service availability. In other words is service only at factory. And of course cost of service.
Fortunately my cal 1570 Rolex OP keeps about 1” a day. And service isn’t difficult to come by.
I gave my son two watches, a Rolex submariner for when he’s in a safe area of town and a grand seiko automatic for when he going to a not so nice part of town, because most people don’t realize the GS is a nice watch.
Was anyone else immediately reminded of the Cocktail Time?
Nice taste picking this one for review. Shame it’s a limited edition and already sold out.
The moment they figure out how to make a screw together bracelet and a machined clasp… I’ll consider buying a grand seiko.
Presage dial?
you buy a rolex to impress your friends and you buy a grand seiko to impress yourself!
Great video, but please slow down Jenni - your delivery is way too fast and blurred.
I agree. Sometimes I use the UA-cam settings to slow down a video.
speech rate is fairly innate and difficult to change without a ton of effort.
personally i like to stick to a rule, if someone can’t change something in under a minute, then there is no reason to point it out. shirt inside out, quick fix, food in your teeth, quick fix… change the way you have spoken your whole life, better to keep that to one’s self.
I prefer a fast speech as it gets the points across quickly
@@mkl1464 I agree, if the speaker speaks clearly. I even speed some videos up for the same reason.
I’m watching at 1.75 speed
The hands and indices are not 14k white gold.
I dont understand why GS doesnt bother making thinner watches like this.
At 5:25, what I hate most about all Grand Seiko's are the clashing fonts of the "GS" and "Grand Seiko" logos. Also, it makes zero sense to have "Grand Seiko" written twice on the dial. It's as cheap as Honda having to speedometers in the gauge cluster.
Hi from Madrid Jenny, why you never Talk about rado?
I just don’t feel as if they’re exciting enough.
The reverso is, the tank and santos is, even a datejust is to some degree just to name a few usuall suspects.
They all seem to look alike to me… pedestrian.
Not a knock though. If you like them , fair play.
Thank you - wonderfull watch - my only complain is, and has always been, the kind og gothic letters used to write Grans Seiko. It reminds me of an ancient german bierstube, or the writing on old pharmacie-bottles - not that i don't like a bierstube, or pharmacies, far from, but i think it fits rather bad with the overall minimalistic design of the watch.
When people try to compare a watch to Rolex and talk about price... my response as always is, let me know how much you get for that watch when you try to move it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE review a Grand Seiko SLGW 003. It is only 9.95 mm thick and gorgeous sexy!!!! And I bought one in April that I won't see until August!..... (PLEASE)
Grand Seiko straps are too long- do you get shorter original straps in Germany?
Nice to see no date.
In my opinion, Grand Seiko truly shines with the 9F. The Spring Drive, while an interesting high-tech hybrid, seems like an attempt to appease those who have resisted the quartz revolution. It falls short of the 9F in every measurable aspect and is overall inferior. 9F is the way.
All Spring Drives support manual winding.
i want a grand seiko that is not sized for grand kong😢
This video is a solid reminder of why I'm not subscribed.
My issue with grand seiko is that it’s still a “new” movement and I’m not sure how reliable it is.
More than twenty years so far...
I need to have a date with my watch…….
I wish GS watches weren't so damn boring in terms of design. I'm not sure you are even legally allowed to wear one if you're younger than 55.
Yeah... Every single watch looks exactly the same except a different dial. Same hands, same indices, same case, same bracelet. Same everything.
Top quality fit and finish. I am mystified though, about the whole Spring Drive justification. You drive a quartz movement through a conventional wound spring and you net accuracy that is decent for a mechanical watch, but rubbish for a quartz. Bully for Seiko; my 262 kHz Bulova Curv is accurate to ten seconds a year. Very accurate mechanical watches drive the collector's market, but a low-accuracy quartz will struggle to get noticed in even a small crowd. The prospective buyer is in a dilemma: where is the appeal of a movement that is neither fish nor fowl?
At $8400 AUD it is expensive with no proper bracelet?!? I’ve tried it on and it’s lovely in a very underwhelming way and a dress watch unlike an Aqua Terra by Omega , which is only $2700 more if your spending this type of money 💴.
You should be comparing the Grand Seiko to Omegas. Their movements are much more advanced than Rolex, magnetic resistant and more rugged.
I also like amzwatch replicas. People who don’t wear them like professionals can’t tell the difference. Their workmanship is really great luxuriatey
