    I changed the timing chain on my well-maintained 328i x-Drive with 382,000 miles at the time. I put the new one next the old one and it had not stretched at all. I changed all the guides and tensioner as well, but it probably wasn't necessary at all. Since I had it all apart, I wasn't going to put the old ones back on on principal. I also did the bottom chain for the oil pump and vacuum punp: same deal. It has over 400,000 K miles now and runs beautifully.

      How did you torque down the crankshaft hub bolt?

    • @chrisgreencbc
      @chrisgreencbc 2 роки тому

      @@stevenerekson3415 You will need to hold the flywheel/torque converter with a 16mm socket thru the view hole on oil pan. Then you can tighten the crank hub bolt

      damnnnnn my e90 330i 6 speed full bolt on currently has 200k and is running flawlessly. Preventative maintenance and 3-5k oil change interval is the key. I also drive it like i stole it haha. one rev a day keeps da valve silt away

    Thank you. I have a question, I have a 2011 5 series 523i I believe it’s n53 engine. The other day we were changing the sump gasket as it was leaking and in the sump when we opened, we found broken nuts and bolts. My mechanic says that they are from the timing chain and it should be replaced. What do you think? The car has been making rattling noises whenever I accelerate or go up the hill... he says it’s because of the timing chain. The Vanos were replaced 2 years ago as one had broken stalling the engine.

      sounds like timing chain or timing chain tensioner is weak

    I have e92 325i N52 Engine and 340 000 km and still work normal, but in BMW Service they told me because of the 340k km I need to change the chain and it doesnt matter if it works fine or not. And of course they want a lot of money to do it. I dont understand when I have to change it....and what are the simptoms. I always change my oil at max 9000 km !!

    Which tool do you guys use to lock the crankshaft in place while torqueing the crankshaft hub bolt? I have a manual that says to use a tool that bolts to the hub, but is this enough to hold the crankshaft during those high tightening loads?

    My n52 e90 is almost at 200k with original timing chain, but I’ve noticed a rattle noise when I start it up. Not the first start up but the second start up, had a vanos code pop up but I swapped and cleared it. The never came back but the noise is still there, any help would be greatly appreciated.. I’m at 170k miles
